- Blake Leigh-Smith quotes
on Sunday evening - “The race went well for me until I ran
off the track in lap six. There I lost about 15 seconds
before coming back. I managed to stay on the bike but had to
go wide out onto grass. That’s why I’m a bit disappointed
with the result. I did improve my time by more than a second
compared to the qualifying. Overall I have to say I had a
terrific weekend with the Red Bull KTM Juniors and I would
like to thank them for the chance they are giving me. I’m
happy to go to Motegi/Japan next week. A new track is
waiting for me there and again I have a lot to learn. I’m
more than happy to go. .“

Introducing the 2006 125cc
World Champion - Alvaro Bautista
- 1315 - The best speed
achieved by any rider in that race through the speed trap
was 239.9kph recorded by Joan Olive on the Aprilia who
finished 10th in the race. Blake Leigh-Smith's best top
speed 233.4kph which ranks 27th against the other riders
- 1313 - Encouraging for
young Blake Leigh-Smith is the fact that his fastest lap of
the race, a 1m39.076, ranks him 21st in the 34 rider field
on each riders fastest individual lap and was quicker than
the best lap managed by his team-mate, Michael Ranseder who
has been in the GP ranks for more than a season now, his
best was 1m39.414
- 1311 - Blake Leigh-Smith
explained the reason he dropped down the field after
managing to move forward half a dozen places in the opening
laps, "I caught up to the group and then just got on the gas
a bit early out of turn 11 and it just went sideways, nearly
threw me off and went into the gravel. I came back on and
there was no way I was going to catch anyone up, so I just
cruised back home to the finish. It's pretty good – I would
have liked to have done a bit better, but it's not too bad."
- 1251 - Blake Leigh-Smith
the only Australian to finish, coming home in 27th place
just ahead of Briton Bradley Smith who managed to remount
after tumbling out of 14th place to be the last rider home
in 28th position
- 1250 - Bautista takes the
win and with it the 125cc World Championship. Kallio
claims second place ahead of Pasini, Luthi, Simon, Pesek, De
Rosa, Lai, Talmacsi and Olive rounded out the top ten.
Bautista is throwing his gloves to the crowd in celebration
of his world championship
- 1249 - Rhys Moller was out
of the race for some reason and Blake Leigh-Smith was in
31st position
- 1248 - If this is the way
things end up here today Alvaro Bautista will be crowned
world champion with three rounds still to run in the
championship
- 1247 - With two laps to
run Kallio, Pasini, Luthi and Simon managed to stretch away
a little from the others that had been in their group.
Bautista was managing his lead around the five second mark
while the tussles unfolded well behind him
- 1244 - Bautista now enjoys
a 5 second buffer over that battle for second place which
continues to intensify as the laps count down. With 4
laps to run Kallio headed Luthi, Simon, Pasini, Pesek,
Talmacsi, Lai and Olive with that whole eight all trying to
occupy the same piece of Phillip Island real estate
- 1240 - The battle for
second place has grown in number once again... With 6
laps to run Pasini, Luthi, Kallio, Simon, Olive and De Rosa
were all in the hunt for that second position
- 1239 - Bautista running
away with it out in front... His lead now 3.8 seconds...
Rhys Moller and Blake Leigh-Smith at the rear of the field
and Moller has got the better of Leigh-Smith
- 1237 - The battle for
second place had thinned to a 3-way affair, Kallio, Pasini
and Luthi the protagonists in that tussle... Bautista had a
lead of 2.5 seconds as the race reached its halfway point.
This a 15 lap race now after being shortened from the
original 23 lap plan due to the delays caused by the turn
1/2 melee the first time they tried to get this race
underway earlier today
- 1235 - A few riders had
retired after various incidents which had Blake Leigh-Smith
in 25th position but the young Queenslander must have made
an error on lap seven as he drifted back to 31st place.
Young Briton Bradley Smith was running 14th before coming
together with another rider and falling from his machine
- 1231 - Lai came on strong
on lap four to get the better of Kallio and as they crossed
the line to start lap there was a huge gaggle of riders line
abreast, Kallio, Lai, Simon, De Rosa, Luthi and Pasini all
crossed the line within only a tenth of a second! This
was playing in to the hands of race leader Bautista who now
had a full second over those men fighting amongst themselves
for second
- 1228 - Cortese had a huge
moment coming onto the main straight on the first lap and
was lucky to stay aboard his machine.. Bautista trying to
edge away from Kallio...
- 1227 - Kallio got ahead of
Lai around the back section of the circuit and as they
crossed the line to start lap two it was Bautista, Kallio,
Lai, Luthi, Pesek, De Rosa, Simon, Olive, Koyama and Pasini
rounded out the top ten. Aussie wildcards Blake
Leigh-Smith was in 27th place and Rhys Moller in 34th
- 1225 - 125cc men away now
for the restart and again it is Kallio leading the way but
this time it is Bautista and Lai chasing. At turn four
both those riders squeezed past Kallio to push the KTM man
back to third place
- 1208 - We believe there
was a fatality this morning on the public roads at Phillip
Island with a motorcyclist apparently cleaned up by a car at
a roundabout
- 1203 - Medical staff
attending to one of the downed riders
- 1202 - Down the straight
they come and no red flag so the carnage must be mainly
clear.... No, hands up, red flag is out... Blake
Leigh-Smith was not caught up in the melee and completed the
first lap
- 1201 - 125cc World
Championship race is underway now... A few take to the
grass at turn one and ran on and one of the bikes made it to
turn two and took out a heap more riders....! Still
action up front with Kallio, Bautista and Luthi the front
runners but I wouldn't be surprised to see a red flag....
