2006 Superbike World Championship - Round Ten - Lausitzring, Germany - September 8/9/10 - Coverage by MCNEWS.COM.AU

Toseland was on a mission from the start of proceedings in the final superbike encounter and had some amazing tussles with Noriyuki Haga on the opening lap while Bayliss watched proceedings from a much safer third place a couple of bike lengths ahead of Troy Corser. Andrew Pitt was in fifth place but went down on lap four while trying to improve his position.

Troy Corser got a penalty for jumping the start and thus was awarded a ride through penalty which he came in for and thus was shuffled down to the back of the field which promoted Yukio Kagayama into that fourth position. Meanwhile up front Bayliss had got the better of Haga for second place and started to challenge James Toseland for the race lead.

Yukio Kagayama put in a series of fast laps to close onto the tail of the leading trio to grow the leading battle into a quartet as the race approached its halfway point. Alex Barros was putting in some quick times also in an effort to join onto the back of that leading quartet and was only three seconds behind.

Noriyuki Haga got the better of Troy Bayliss early in the second half of the race while Kagayama started to drift back into the clutches of Barros. But with four laps to run the Brazilian's race ended in the gravel trap. Haga went up the inside of Toseland to challenge for the race lead and the duo commenced battle while Bayliss watched on from a safer viewpoint in third place while enjoying a safe buffer over fourth place Kagayama.

Haga upped the pressure level on Toseland with two laps to run but the Briton held off all his advances. Haga again showed Toseland a wheel early on the final lap as the pair pulled away from Bayliss.  Haga tried everything he could on the last lap to get the better of Toseland but the Ten Kate man held on to take the win by only 2-tenths of a second while Bayliss brought home a safe third place 3 seconds further behind.
