World Superbike 2006 -
Round Two - Phillip Island
Unedited Notes from our LIVE Update Page March 4th,
2006 - By, Trevor Hedge
1750 - Trounson takes the
win by 7.6 seconds over Broadfoot, Nicholson takes third
ahead of Higgins, Kokshoorn, Mather, McLinden, Baker,
Sciberras, Cowie, McConnell, Griffin, Smibert, Frandsen,
Burns, Lenehan, Dix, Corcoran
1746 - 2 laps to go now
and Trounson is trouncing them to the tune of 4 seconds.
Broadfoot is in second place 3 seconds clear of Nicholson
who is tussling over third place with Higgins.
1743 - 4 laps to run and
Trounson leads by 1.3 seconds over Broadfoot and Higgins
1741 - Trounson leads them
away and immediately starts to pull away from the field...
1733 - Aussie Superstock
up next...
1725 - Allerton gets Jamie
Stauffer at Siberia with half a lap to run... Allerton holds
the lead through the Hayshed, through Lukey, through
MG, Jamie all over him through turn 12... A run to the line
it will be to decide it... Jamie gets the drive and the
slipstream to take the win by 0.094 of a second over
Allerton, Giles 3rd, Fergusson 4th, Holland 5th, Bugden 6th,
Dan Stauffer 7th, Etheridge 8th, Johnson 9th, Waters 10th.
Then it is Gibson, Elliott, Wicks, Roe, Taylor, Higgins,
Williams, Johnson, Manning, Pertzel
1724 - Holland catching
the back of the group as they get the last lap board but
Jamie has got a couple of bike lengths over Allerton and
Giles who are battling over second place...
1723 - Allerton nearly got
Jamie at turn four but can't pull it off...
1722 - Jamie Stauffer uses
the slipstream to take the lead on the run to turn one with
two laps to run... The current order is Jamie Stauffer,
Glenn Allerton, Shawn Giles, Adam Fergusson with Russell
Holland closing a little from behind after a bad start...
1721 - Giles in the lead
now and Allerton through on Jamie also and he goes
underneath Giles into turn four to take the lead...
Across Lukey the top three nose to tail and Fergusson joins
the freight train on the run down to MG Hairpin...
1719 - Short five lapper
this one so no time to build up to speed in this one...
Giles leads them down the straight to start lap two but
Jamie Stauffer goes underneath him in turn one to steal the
lead... The two side by side on the entry to turn four but
Jamie retains the advantage after the two nearly come
together... Allerton past Fergusson for third place...
1718 - Aussie Superbike
away now! Gilesy, Fergusson and Jamie Stauffer all got
a decent run off the line but it is Gilesy who sweeps across
to take the lead in turn one. Jamie Stauffer up to
second place quickly though and after the Suzuki man while
Allerton slotted in behind Fergusson.
1712 - Next up we have the
Aussie Superbikes out to thrill the crowd again..
1702 - Jamie Stauffer
takes the win by over two seconds... The battle for second
sees four riders go four wide across the line. But of
course with the time penalties applied (for the use of non
homologated tyres) to Fergusson, Allerton, Waters, Staring
and McMartin the results become Jamie Stauffer the winner
from Greedy, O'Halloran, Aitchison, Seaton, Campbell
Goldsmith, Bartlome, Onus, Staring, Allerton, Fergusson,
Watson, Waters, McMartin, Figueiredo
1701 - Allerton hugely
sideways in to turn four and Waters has to cancel his tip in
and runs wide and thus Allerton takes that second place and
Aitchison followed Waters' little detour off the track but
they both quickly regained the tarmac...
1700 - Greedy back under
Aitchison for third place at MG Hairpin and after Allerton
but from fifth Waters went up to second on entry to turn
one.. That Kawasaki showing great speed again...
1659 - The battle for
second is huge with Allerton, Greed, Fergusson, Aitchison,
Waters and Staring covered by 7-tenths of a second and
O'Halloran not too much further behind..
1657 - Allerton up the
inside of Greedy at MG.. Jamie getting away as his
pursuers go side by side down the main straight... Allerton
holds second in turn one but Aitchison getting in the mix
now... Fergusson getting in to it now also and closing in on
Greedy who is chasing Allerton... All this playing into
Jamie's hands as he streets away to the tune of two full
seconds with two laps still to run while his pursuers fight
amongst themselves...
1656 - Jamie pulling away
again, Allerton trying to get back under Greedy but doesn't
pull it off and is being hounded by Staring...
1655 - Australian
Supersport Race Two underway now and the Joe Rocket Honda
didn't get off the line well but Greedy got a great leave to
lead Jamie Stauffer. Allerton made up three positions
at Honda Corner... Then gets Jamie at MG Hairpin to move up
to second...Allerton taking no prisoners and coming from
seventh to challenge for the lead through turn 11... But
Jamie Stauffer takes the lead at the end of the main
straight as Allerton got swamped..
1644 - One more race this
afternoon for all the Aussie support classes, Supersport up
first at 1655
1642 - Five Aussies on the
first two rows of the grid. The grid is as follows -
Bayliss, Corser, Toseland, Martin, Barros, Muggeridge, Pitt,
Haga, Lanzi, Walker, Chili, Kagayama, Nieto, Laconi, Rolfo,
Clementi
1640 - Bayliss puts in the
best speed down the straight in this Superpole session with
299kph.... 0.152 quicker than Corser at the first
split... 0.221 under at the second split... Could be a
31...? Wait for it..... 1m32.159 to
Bayliss to keep his pole position but he did do a 1m32.081
earlier today but as long as he has pole position that won't
worry him.
1637 - 293 down the
straight for Corser... 0.068 under at the first split...
Back stepped out a little out of Siberia but didn't look too
costly... 0.496 under at the second split... On course for a
low 1m32... He puts in a 1m32.373 to go to the top of
the charts... Bayliss up next and he has gone quicker than
that today... It is up to him to show us the first 1m31...
1635 - 290kph for Haga
down the straight... 0.365 behind at the first split... He
will be shuffled down the grid a little unless he can pull
that gap back in the middle sector... 0.354 behind at the
second split... 1m33.631 for Haga to only go sixth quickest
which promotes Steve Martin onto the front row and shuffles
himself back to the second row. Corser on his warm up
lap now... Are track conditions going to allow him to do a
1m31...?
1632 - 295kph through the
traps at 295kph... 0.302 under at the first split... A
little out of shape at Lukey with a nasty drift... 0.0093
under at the second split, that slide cost him... Can he
make up for it...? 1m33.003 to Toseland to go to the
top of the table. Haga on his warm up lap now
1630 - 284kph down the
straight for Steve Martin on the Foggy Petronas... 0.109
better than Barros at the first split... 0.143 under at the
second split... Steve to the top of the charts with a
1m33.206 on a bike with a 10% capacity deficit to the others
and that is impressive any way you look at it.
Toseland on his warm up lap now... I reckon we will
see the Brit well down into the 1m32s if the wind allows
him...
1627 - Pitt piloted his
Yamaha through the traps at 291kph for the equal best speed
so far in this session... 0.134 quicker at the first
split... 0.158 slower at the second split... Pitt goes
third quickest thus far with a 1m33.598 to be shuffled back
a couple of spots on the grid if the next riders best him...
Steve Martin on his warm up lap now...
1624 - Rolfo wiggles his
way onto the main straight and records 291 through the traps
to start his flyer... 0.357 off the pace at the first
split... 1.070 seconds off at the second split so he is
going to lose some positions... A 1m35.032 for Rolfo, the
slowest time thus far in this session. Pitt on his
warm up lap now
1622 - 289kph down the
straight for Muggas... Not looking too tidy, in fact his
bike has been sliding everywhere all weekend... But he is
0.208 quicker than Barros at the first split... But 0.046
down in the middle sector... Muggas puts in a 1m33.571 to go
second quickest to Barros... Rolfo on his warm up lap now
1620 - Barros on his
Superpole lap now... The Brazilian made great progress
yesterday but doesn't seem to have made any significant
steps forward today... 284 down the main straight for the
Fireblade... 0.044 behind Lanzi at the first split...
Makes up a lot of ground in the middle sector to be 4-tenths
quicker than Lanzi... Barros to the top of the table
with a 1m33.373... Muggas on his warm up lap now
1617 - Nieto on his lap
now... Believe he has blown a couple of engines this weekend
already on his Kawasaki... 0.334 slower than Lanzi at
the first split... 0.255 behind at the second split... Puts
in a 1m34.158 to be 5th quickest out of the 7 riders that
have been so far... Barros on his warm up lap now...
1614 - Walker goes through
the speed trap at 283kph... 0.224 slower at the first
split... 0.042 at the second split behind, he might do it...
Walker sets a 1m33.928 to go second quickest so Lanzi has
promoted himself well up the order from the 14th place he
started as even if all the rest of the riders beat him he
will still start from 11th on the grid rather than the
provisional 14th he was after final qualifying
1611 - 286kph down the
straight for Clementi... 0.622 of the quickest man at the
first split... 0.509 behind at the second split but
nearly highsided out of MG... Crosses the line with a
1m35.032 to be the slowest man thus far as that near
highside cost him too much time... Walker on his warm
up lap now
1610 - Chili 0.112 better
at the second split.... Goes second quickest with a
1m33.998... Clementi next out
1609 - Chili coming round
to start his lap now... 281kph down the main straight for
Pierfrancesco...
1607 - Kagayama has
started his lap, 289kph down the main straight before
tipping into turn one for the Suzuki man... 0.023 of a
second slower than Lanzi at the first split... Untidy
and sliding lots, he slid across the ripple strip a little
exiting Siberia after running wide on the exit and lucky to
stay on.. Very lucky... That will be costly...
Still manages a 1m34.111 for second quickest out of the
three riders that have run so far
1605 - Lanzi just crossed
the line to start his flying lap... Decent headwind blowing
up the main straight and a hot track... Laconi recorded
283kph on the start of his lap and Lanzi records 291...
0.257 seconds better than Laconi at the first split so this
is not going to be a really fast lap... 0.280 under at the
second split... 1m33.791 his time
1602 - Laconi crosses the
line to start his lap... Sliding in beautiful gentle drifts
around all the turns, ever so slight but an obvious drift
all the same and nice to watch...A 30.295 is his time at the
first split... 67.87 at the second split... Laconi comes
across the line to set the first time as a 1m34.492 which is
a few tenths slower than the 1m34.011 he recorded in the
final qualifying session
1545 - That is the end of
the Superbike practice session and only 15 minutes to run to
Superpole.... I'll put it on the line and make a bold
prediction.... Bayliss or Corser will break into the 1m31s
on their Superpole lap...
1457 - Corser quickest in
this session from Muggeridge, Bayliss, Toseland, Walker and
Barros as the guys use this long session to work on a race
set up and testing tyre life
1445 - Superbikes heading
out now for their hour of free practice prior to Superpole
1429 - Riders on their
final lap now and I can't see the order changing so it looks
as though it will be Charpentier on pole from Curtain and
Parkes so no surprises there. Next best is Harms,
Zaiser, Sofuoglu then Gobert in seventh followed by Tiberio,
Berger, Stigefelt, Veneman, Lauslheto then Brookes in 13th
followed by Thomas, Andersen, Sanchini, Fores and Le Grelle
1426 - Goey up to seventh
now, 1m36.929
1425 - Gobert up to eighth
1423 - Brookesy only
4-tenths off at the first split on this lap after putting a
new rear tyre in... He pulled out of that lap presumably due
to traffic
1420 - With ten minutes
remaining the order is - Charpentier, Parkes, Harms,
Curtain, Zaiser, Sofuoglu, Stigefelt, Veneman, Tiberio and
Brookes rounds out the top ten
1419 - Our mega expensive
broadband connection here in the press centre just fell over
for a little while so apologies for our little break in
transmission but we are back in time for the action to hot
up in this final World Supersport qualifier now with 10
minutes remaining in the session
1403 - Curtain and Parkes
have marginally improved their times from yesterday but
Charpentier has not tried to up his pace as yet. Peris
just had a lowside but walked away okay
1352 - World Supersport
Final Qualifying on now. Veneman the early pacesetter
in this session but none of the top runners are trying for
fast laps as yet as there is plenty of time remaining
1234 - What an amazing
race! One of the most exciting ever.
1231 - The finishing order
- Jamie Stauffer, Fergusson, Allerton, Giles, Holland, D
Stauffer, Bugden, Johnson, Etheridge, Wicks, Elliott, Roe,
Higgins, Taylor, Williams, Johnson
1230 - Fergusson ahead of
Allerton around the back of the circuit... Giles on
the back of Allerton as they tip into 11 and 12 and will try
to steal third on the line...
1229 - This looks to be
Jamie's race to make it a win in Supersport and a win in
Superbike to celebrate his return to Yamaha... Last lap
now...Jamie did a 1m35.64 on that penultimate lap...
1228 - Jamie just put in a
1m35.7 to pull out 7-tenths on his pursuers... Krusty all
over the back of Allerton now and the Honda men may slow
each other down a little. Holland got a little too hot
into turn one and allowed Giles back through for 4th
1227 - Jamie on it to try
and make a gap, Allerton looking the likeliest to
bridge the gap and challenge... But Jamie has got a couple
of lengths now...
1226 - Holland pushed
Giles back to 5th, Jamie leads them onto the main
straight... Allerton back under as they tip into turn one,
Jamie tries around the outside at turn two and does it as
Allerton was too tight on entry, Jamie still has it through
turn four... 3 laps to run
1225 - Virtually four wide
before they tip into turn one and out the other side it is
Allerton from Jamie Stauffer, Krusty, Giles and Holland.
Allerton back in front at Honda, Jamie pushed back to 2nd...
1224 - Krusty underneath
Allerton on the entry to turn 12 and gets the run on to the
straight as he pushes Allerton a tiny bit wide. But
Allerton back in front around Southern Loop, Giles pushes
ahead of Krusty momentarily but the Honda man gets him right
back... Jamie still there stalking from behind... Holland
yet to show his hand perhaps but right with them...
1223 - Allerton to the
front! Fergusson pushes Giles back to 3rd... The top
five absolutely nose to tail now through MG...
1222 - The leading quarter
nose to tail down the straight but the Suzuki has mega mumbo
happening and he holds the lead, less than half a second
covers the top five with Holland tagging on to the back of
Jamie...
1220 - Giles leads still
and how much power does that GSX-R have! He pulled a
half height mono a good 50 yards on to the main straight at
well over 200kph and then still maintains the lead all the
way down the straight and into turn one... Krusty and
Allerton all over the back of him too, Jamie stalking
just behind also... Allerton the only man to dip
into the 1m35s with a 1m35.8 on that lap
1219 - This is full on
action, Gilesy sideways back and forth on entry to
turn four, Allerton touches the back of him and thus runs
wide but stays up but has to allow Fergusson through...
1218 - Krusty looking for
a way through, Gilesy up the inside between 11 and 12 and
leads them down the straight... Gilesy back into the lead
into turn one, Allerton up to 2nd after getting his
team-mate...
1217 - Gilesy back in
front now, Fergusson right on him, Allerton up to 3rd and
Jamie back to 4th...
1216 - Jamie has a look up
the inside at Honda but can't do it, Gilesy nearly gets
flicked out of the seat on the way out, Jamie under at the
change of direction before Lukey, Krusty on the
outside at Lukey and then under at MG to take second place
from Giles
1215 - Riders forming up
on the grid now... Pole sitter Shawn Giles last man to form
up.... Gilesy gets away well and leads them into turn one
from Jamie Stauffer, Adam Fergusson and Glenn Allerton with
Russell Holland right there also as they go through Southern
Loop
1212 - Aussie Superbikes
heading out now, it looks as though Jamie is on the 2005 R1
and Dan on the 2006 R1. Hedging their bets no doubt
with Dan concentrating on getting the 2006 up to a
competitive pace and Jamie out for maximum results on the
already sorted machine. Limited time to get two of the new
bikes fully prepared could also be part of the reason. Ten
laps the distance
1200 - Session ended and
the order is - Bayliss, Corser, Haga, Toseland, Martin,
Pitt, Rolfo, Muggas, Barros, Nieto, Walker, Clementi, Chili,
Kagayama, Lanzi, Laconi, Abe, Foret, Neukirchner, Fabrizio,
Gimbert, Xaus, Borciani, Nakatomi, Battaini, Jones,
Pedercini, Iannuzzo
1158 - Bayliss under at
the first split again... A couple of tenths off at the
second split... Seconds counting down now to the flag...
1152 - Bayliss smashes it
down to a 1m32.321.... How will Corser respond and will he
get a clear lap to do it...?
1151 - Bayliss nearly half
a second under at the second split...
1150 - Toseland and Muggas
both out on sticky tyres now, Toseland under at the first
split... But then gets caught up in traffic and has to abort
his go at a fast one. Muggeridge made a dramatic jump
up to 6th from 16th with a 1m33.702
1149 - A lot of the top
runners back in for a soft and sticky hoop... 10 minutes
left in the session
1147 - Neukirchner just
went for another slide down the road after getting flicked
out of the seat trying to get out of MG Hairpin, his foot
got caught in the back of the machine but he seemed to walk
away okay
1143 - Corser and Haga
back on track now... Bayliss going quick again and only
one-hundredth off his best at the first split... Down a
couple of tenths at the second split... 1m33.26 that time
around. Corser and Haga getting up to speed now
1142 - Bayliss under at
the first split... Down a couple of tenths at the
second split...Goes through with a 1m33.27
1140 - Bayliss back on
track, less than 20 minutes to run in this session now
1134 - The three top men,
Bayliss, Corser and Haga all currently in pit lane.
Toseland 4th quickest, Rolfo 5th, Nieto 6th, Barros 7th,
Martin 8th, Pitt 9th, Clementi 10th.
1132 - Corser under at the
first split now... line ball on second split.... and
also goes into the 1m32s with a 1m32.991 but Bayliss still
on top by a gnat's whisker
1130 - Bayliss on another
flyer now.... 0.149 under at the first split.... 0.159
under at second split... Lowers the mark again this time to
1m32.926. 30 minutes remaining in this session
1128 - Corser still
looking for a good set-up, changing shocks presently.
Bayliss on a flyer... Lowers the mark to 1m33.32
1123 - A lot of the World
Superbike are running various forms of electronic traction
control but we believe Barros does not have this on his
machine... And it does look that way as the Brazilian has
his Fireblade excitingly sideways around some of the fast
turns and looking to be having lots of fun. The
Brazilian has more 500cc/MotoGP starts than any other rider
in history and enjoying his switch to Superbikes
1122 - Muggeridge only
12th quickest and his Ten Kate Honda not looking too tidy as
it seems to be squirming everywhere, on entry, mid turn and
on the exit. Obviously still to find a set up that
works for him
1120 - Barros just came in
and changed the fork springs and gearing as he finds his way
around what makes the Honda go quick
1119 - Rolfo has tagged on
the back of Corser on that lap and is up to 4th quickest
while Corser up to 3rd quickest. Haga still the 2nd
quickest man. Rolfo continuing to follow Corser
around... Corser let him through out of Siberia after
getting sick of having him on his tail
1116 - Bayliss on a
reasonably quick one, 2-tenths off at the first split and
looking for a clear lap... A 1m33.8 to Bayliss that time
around
1108 - Bayliss the early
pace setter this morning with a 1m33.3 ahead of Haga,
Corser, Barros, Toseland, Martin and Pitt. Times will
tumble in this session as the wind is a little more
favourable than yesterday and the track is cooler...
1106 - Yukio Kagayama just
went for a tumble into the gravel trap but got up okay. The
Suzuki man got highsided out of the seat while trying to get
out of Southern Loop. A couple of riders had to take evasive
action
1058 - Superbikes out next
for their second qualifying session, the top 16 from which
will contest Superpole to decide the final grid later this
afternoon.
1045 - Session Ended and
the state of affairs is - Curtain 1m35.90 - Charpentier
1m36.2 - Gobert 1m36.7 - Parkes 1m36.7 - Thomas 1m37.0 -
Sofuoglu 1m37.1 - Berger 1m37.3 - Veneman 1m37.4 - Fores
1m37.5 - Harms 1m37.5 - Tiberio 1m37.7 - Roccoli 1m37.7 -
Stigefelt 1m37.7 - Brookes 1m37.8 - Zaiser 1m37.8
1043 - Gobert just found
enough space around him to put in a 1m36.7 to promote
himself to third quickest in this session with 1 minute
remaining... Brookes just put in another 1m38.2, a
pace he seems to be able to keep consistently although not
as fast as he would like.
1038- The track is very
busy with around 30 riders currently lapping and everyone
finding it difficult to get a clear lap. 5 minutes remaining
1035 - Kev passing a fair
bit of traffic on this lap but still going quick and puts in
a 1m36.5 to back up that 1m35.9. Brookes fails to
better his time, putting in a 1m38.2 that time around but he
has done more laps than anyone thus far at 17 and may be
doing a run to suss out the situation in regards to tyre
wear but he has come in for a small tweak of the suspension
1034 - Brookesy just tried
to tag on the back of Kev when the Yamaha man went past but
Kev really pulled ground on him with seeming ease. A nice
target for Josh to chase though in an effort to better his
time which I think he will do on this next lap
1032 - Kev on a flyer,
2-tenths down at the first split, half a second under
at the second split... 1m35.9 to Kev. Charpentier 2nd
quickest now with a 1m36.5. Only a matter of time
before the French Ten Kate man gets serious though...
1030 - 15 minutes
remaining in this session and the current state of affairs
is - Curtain 1m36.76 - Parkes 1m36.92 - Sofuoglu 1m37.2 -
Charpentier 1m37.48 - Harms 1m37.50 - Gobert 1m37.59 -
Berger 1m37.61 - Roccoli 1m37.74 - Brookes 1m37.84
1020 - Gobert up to 5th
quickest now with a 1m37.74 which is a full second quicker
than he went yesterday afternoon. Brookes has not improved
on the 1m37.84 he put in early in this session but is
continuing to circulate. That time however is 1.2 seconds
quicker than what he managed yesterday afternoon
1019 - Anthony Gobert had
some engine problems yesterday that saw him around 20kph
down on top speed but the team has fixed the cylinder head
overnight and it's pulling much better today so we should
see Anthony move up the time sheets as he gets the machine
sorted. He is 9th quickest thus far in this practice
session.
1014 - Curtain and Parkes
both came into the pits for some changes before heading back
out again.
1007 - Kevin Curtain just
about had the R6 horizontal on the entry to turn four that
time around with the back stepped right around but looking
very comfortable. There was a lot of lean angle on at
the same time though so it was particularly flamboyant,
particularly for a rider like Curtain who we are accustomed
to seeing a very wheels line classic style of riding
Kev down to 1m36.7 already and having some fun. Parkes
down to 1m36.9 for 2nd quickest. Brookesy 5th quickest
with a dramatic improvement down to 1m37.84.
1006 - And Brookesy's
first flying lap is a 1m39.22 ad he backed that up with a
1m39.05 which is faster than his best time from yesterday
afternoon so it does look as though they have gone in the
right direction. Albeit the track conditions are much better
this morning than yesterday afternoon
1002 - World Supersport
riders on track now for their morning practice session.
This will be the real test of whether Josh Brookes and his
Aussie suspension man Terry Hay know better than Ducati and
the Ohlins techs as they took the shock away overnight to
enlarge the valving in a quest to find the grip that Josh is
searching for on his new mount for 2006...
1000 - Full Results from

place with only 2-hundredths of a buffer over Staring with
Fergusson a couple of tenths behind. Waters 5th, O'Halloran
6th, Allerton 7th, Greedy 8th, McMartin 9th, Seaton 10th,
Campbell 11th, Goldsmith 12th. Of course once the time
penalties are applies Staring and Fergusson will be
relegated down to 6th and 7th positions.
0931 - Aitchison and
Staring side by side into turn one early on the final lap,
Aitchison gets out the other side with his nose in front...
Jamie cruising his way home for a clear victory and taking
no risks... Staring doing everything he can to get past
Aitchison for second place on the track...
0929 - The battle for the
second on the track shaping up to be a ripper with Staring,
Aitchison and Fergusson virtually side by side as they
crossed the line to start the penultimate lap of this non
championship race.
0927 - Aitchison
continuing to close on Fergusson and Staring now as the race
moves into the second half of the race. Aitchison gets
Fergusson for third place early on lap six
0926 - Aitchison pulled
some ground back on Fergusson and Staring that time around
with a 1m37.603 but Jamie Stauffer had responded to
Staring's challenge by putting in a new fastest lap of the
race with a 1m37.38 to stretch his lead on the track out to
1.1 seconds.
0925 - Jamie continued to
lead the way as they started lap four and Staring had
managed to pull a couple of tenths out on Fergusson. Staring
had also pulled a tenth back on Jamie Stauffer after putting
in the quickest lap so far on that last circuit with a
1m37.709. Of course that will be moot at the end of
the day as Staring, Fergusson, Allerton, Waters and McMartin
all will be hit with a 30 second time penalty for using non
homologated tyres this weekend
0923 - As they started lap
three Jamie Stauffer had nearly a full second on Fergusson
and Staring who continued to trade places but had managed to
pull away a little from Aitchison. The top trio all put in
1m37s on their second lap
0922 - Jamie Stauffer took
the lead early on in this first Australian Supersport
encounter for 2006 with Adam Fergusson, Mark Aitchison and
Bryan Staring in tow. At the end of lap one Aitchison and
Staring pushed Fergusson back a couple of spots but through
turn one Fergusson got Aitchison back for third and then
took Staring at turn four. This battle giving Jamie Stauffer
an opportunity to break clear. Jason O'Halloran scored a 10
second jump start penalty.
0915 - Five riders have
been granted permission to compete on non-homologated
Michelin tyres in the Supersport support races at the 2006
world Superbike round at Phillip Island on March 4-5.
However, the riders - Honda trio Bryan Staring, Adam
Fergusson and Glenn Allerton, Kawasaki’s Josh Waters and
Ducati’s Craig McMartin - will be penalised 30 seconds at
the end of their races. The tyres which Michelin Australia
nominated for homologation in the 2005 and 2006 racing
seasons are not available this weekend. Two Supersport races
will be held today, with the final one tomorrow morning.
