| Broc Parkes got off the line
well but it was Charpentier who led the field through turn one
for the first time. All was not well back in the pack though as
a couple of riders went down heavily and had to be lifted out of
the kitty litter. Fores quickly moved up to second place while Curtain looked on in third with Fujiwara on his tail. A couple of laps later Curtain got the better of Fores for second place and pulled away over the next couple of laps to shake them off his tail. Fores then battled with Fujiwara for third place and was backing his Supersport machine at all of the tighter turns. Fujiwara then managed to get away from Fores after putting in the fastest lap of the race thus far. Fores then came under attack from Parkes who slipped his Yamaha through for that fourth place as the race approached the halfway point. Brookes was still really struggling with his Ducati, the young Australian just not being able to get the suspension to give him the feedback he needs to be up the front even though the 749R was making competitive power. He was doing his best though and as the race entered its second half he had sneaked into the top ten. Charpentier was never challenged after hitting the front early on and streaked away to a great win and celebrated that fact with possibly the best ever World Supersport wheelstand. The only better show in my memory from fellow Frenchman Stephane Chambon who was famous for his huge monos and rolling burnouts a few years ago. Charpentier has a perfect three from three record thus far in 2006 while similarly Curtain has a trio of second place finishes under his belt.
