After a slightly cautious start to
his Superpole lap, Troy then charged round the 4.060 kilometre
Misano circuit to record a time over a second under the lap
record. But, that wasn’t quite good enough to knock Briton James
Toseland (Honda) off the top spot, so Troy had to settle for
second - and no watch! Third quickest in the 16-rider Superpole
shoot-out was Andrew Pitt (Yamaha), with Steve martin (Petronas)
fourth - making it three Aussies on the front row. Series leader
Troy Bayliss (Ducati) made a small mistake when he clipped a
kerb on his Superpole lap and lost some time. He ended seventh
quickest in the end.
TROY - 2nd, 1:33.866 - "This afternoon, before Superpole, I believed that I could’ve done a lap in the mid 1:33s, so I was a bit disappointed not to have done that. I probably wasn’t completely confident with my front tyre and was a bit careful going into turn one and that lost me a little time. I was pretty fast throughout the rest of the lap, but I always knew it would be a tough ask trying to beat Toseland’s time. But, front row is all that counts - especially here at Misano where you have to be at the front going into the first double left-hander before the back straight. If you are not, and get held up, it’s easy to lose a second or more by the time you complete the first lap! "Today I had some problems with the rear end. The back was sliding quite a bit and I was getting wheelspin quite a lot. I feel that I’m losing traction and time and that’s going to hurt in a long race for sure. After my recent illness, my energy levels are not yet back to normal. I’m good for about 12-15 laps, but then I really know I’m working! If it is as hot tomorrow as they say it will be, it’s going to be a very, very long hard day tomorrow. I’ll go to the Clinica Mobile and see if I can get something to help and make sure I don’t suffer from dehydration in the 50 or so laps I will do tomorrow. Wish me luck! See ya." Troy |
