World Supersport dominator Sebastien Charpentier (FRA) fell from his Ten Kate Honda on the first day of the Brno test. The Frenchman broke his collarbone in the fall and will watch from the sidelines today at Misano, which gives Yamaha stalwart Kevin Curtain (AUS) a great chance to claw back some important ground on the reigning world champion. Curtain smashed the Brno lap record during the test and the Yamaha Germany team is extracting more speed from the new R6.

"The bike is improving every time we get out on it,” commented Curtain. “Pirelli brought along a lot of tyres to test and we've found some that work well with the R6. Misano should suit us. We've got to try and pull some points back on Charpentier and keep applying the pressure to him.”

Curtain's team-mate Broc Parkes (AUS) is a Misano specialist, having won an Italian championship race there last year and setting the fastest ever World Supersport lap of the circuit in April's official test. Parkes was just one tenth of a second slower than his team-mate in Brno and will be looking for a good result in Misano to elevate him from his current fourth position in the championship.

Kevin Curtain made things hard for himself however by falling during practice and having to qualify on his spare bike, on which he could only manage the 14th quickest time.  No such dramas for Broc Parkes however as he took pole position ahead of Simone Sanna.

Parkes failed to capitalise on his pole position however when the lights went out as Roccoli and Sanna led him around the first lap but Parkes made an unbelievable move early on lap two to slot passed both of them to take the lead.  Parkes came under both of them completely sideways and at first glance there was no way he was going to make the corner but he did, and made it look easy in the process!  A move worth rewinding and watching a few times!

A couple of laps later though the pair relegated Parkes back to third place once again to signal that if Parkes wanted the win, they were going to make him work for it.  Curtain had worked his way up to tenth and had his work cut out for him if he hoped to rise to a podium position before race end.

Roccoli and Sanna pulled a few bike lengths out of Parkes on the next few laps.  Roccoli on a Yamaha but not one of the Yamaha Germany machines of Curtain or Parkes that are normally the Yamaha men on the pace while Simone Sanna was defending the honour of Honda in the absence of Charpentier.  Sanna on a Megabike Honda that is also prepared by Ten Kate.

This trio continued to chase each other lap after lap and with six laps to run it was still Roccoli with the advantage and unless they skittled each other they were going to be the podium finishers as the closest of their pursuers was more than seven seconds behind. That fourth placed man was Checa. Kevin Curtain had worked his way up to seventh place and was on the tail of a battle over fifth.

Parkes started to lose touch a little with Roccoli and Sanna in the final couple of laps.  On the run to the flag it was Roccoli who maintained his slender advantage to the line for the win.  Kevin Curtain scored sixth place to pull some points back on championship leader Sebastien Charpentier who sat out this round with injury but Curtain would have been hoping to take a lot more than ten points from this round.
