2006 Superbike World Championship - Round Seven - Brno, Czech Republic - July 21/22/23 - Coverage by MCNEWS.COM.AU

Noriyuki Haga capitalised on his pole position in race two to lead the way while Troy Bayliss was eager to make amends for being skittled by Laconi in the opening bout by getting up front as soon as possible. James Toseland had other ideas however and pushed Bayliss back to second place halfway around the first lap while Haga was out to do an escape act and had an incredible 1.1 second lead at the end of the opening lap.

Corser pushed Bayliss back to fourth early on lap two and Karl Muggeridge was also right on the tail of Bayliss and looking for a way past.

But it was not Muggeridge who was the next rider to push Bayliss back another place as on lap ten Yukio Kagayama put an amazing move on Bayliss to push the Australian back to fifth, and only a few corners later Andrew Pitt pushed him further back to sixth. Karl Muggeridge then made it his turn to pet past Bayliss on lap 11 to steal that sixth spot and push Bayliss back to seventh.

Meanwhile up front Noriyuki Haga was setting the pace while Toseland, Corser and Kagayama gave chase. Yukio Kagayama then pulled the exact same move he made a couple of laps earlier on Bayliss on team-mate Corser to promote himself up to third place. He then quickly closed onto Toseland's tail and started to threaten the Ten Kate man. Bayliss continued to lose positions and was obviously suffering from some sort of problem.

It took Kagayama three laps to get the better of Toseland to take second place.  Noriyuki Haga had nearly a two second buffer over Kagayama with five laps to run but Kagayama immediately started to eat into it. Fabrizio was repeating his race one act of coming on strong from nowhere late in the race and was running some very quick lap times and with three laps to run was up to fifth place and working on passing Toseland who had been pushed back to fourth by Troy Corser.

Kagayama took the lead on lap 18 and Haga didn't have enough rear tyre left to prevent the Suzuki man from going on to complete the double. Fabrizio got Toseland with a couple of laps still to run and threatened Corser in the closing laps for third while Corser in turn was challenging Haga for second place. As they started the last lap Kagayama was clear out in front but Haga, Corser and Fabrizio were nose to tail, the trio went three wide a few turns from the ends and it was Fabrizio who had his nose in front at the flag to score that second rung on the podium while Haga just beat Corser to the line for third.

Championship leader Troy Bayliss limped home in a disappointing eighth to salvage some points from the round but thanks to his awesome run of results in previous rounds still enjoys a huge 73 point advantage in the standings.  Haga's third place finish promoted him back up to second in the standings with a single point buffer over James Toseland. Defending World Champion Troy Corser is currently fourth in the standings with 173 points to his credit. Round winner Yukio Kagayama moved up to seventh overall in the series thanks to his perfect points haul, 22 points behind Andrew Pitt.
