Superbike - Troy Corser Report |

Normally Troy would not have been
happy to only be on the second row of the grid, but after Friday
and Saturday morning at Brno it didn’t look as if Troy would
even get into the top ten. Missing the three day test at Brno
recently was more critical then Troy and his team thought, and
until this afternoon they were struggling. In desperation, Troy
decided to try his team mate Yukio’s set-up and almost
straightaway he began to get more comfortable with the bike and
lap more quickly. The transformation from morning to afternoon
was amazing and it meant that Troy would at least be in with a
chance in Superpole. He ran wide in the first three turns,
because he wasn’t fully confident with the front tyre feel, and
lost some time, but still managed to post the fifth quickest
time. Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) slashed the lap record by over
three seconds on his way to pole, with James Toseland (Honda)
second, Lorenzo Lanzi (Ducati) third and Troy Bayliss (fourth)..
TROY - 5th, 2:01.351 "I’m so much happier this afternoon and getting a place on the second row is OK - especailly considering the past one and a half days! I didn’t realise that missing that test would prove so vital, but I’m lucky that my team mate was there and was able to give me all his information. Without that I’d been struggling big time for sure. It’s strange because I wouldn’t have thought I could’ve got on so well with his set-up and I wouldn’t have thought it would’ve worked so well here. But obviously Brno is special and you need time to get the right set-up for it. I was a bit tentative in the first part of my Superpole lap because I wasn’t confident about the front tyre, but after that it was all OK. If I can do these kind of lap times on a bike that I’m not completely comfortable with yet, then I know I can improve further. We’ll try a couple of things in the warm-up tomorrow and see how much further we can improve. So all I need tomorrow is a couple of good starts and I’ll be in with a chance of some good results - something I definitely need at this stage of the season." |
