Troy left Assen bitterly
disappointed with his luck and his lack of points. In the first
race, he crashed in treacherous conditions when his visor fogged
up and he couldn’t see where he was going! In race two, he was
taken out by Noriyuki Haga at the first turn. Haga’s bike hit
Troy’s front wheel, damaging the rim and disc. When Troy then
tried to brake for the turn, he found that he had no brakes and
down he went. It was especially disappointing as Troy had taken
Superpole yesterday afternoon in superb fashion and was
confident that a couple of podiums were on the cards. Assen was soaking wet for race one and the only wet practice that Troy and rest of the riders did was in the short morning warm-up. The race was one of attrition, with only fifteen riders (out of twenty-eight) finishing. Amongst the casualties were three of the top four in the title chase. Chris Walker (Kawasaki) started from last place, but stormed through the field, mastering the difficult conditions to take his maiden World Superbike win. Second was Andrew Pitt (Kawasaki), with Michel Fabrizio (third). The second race started, with the track virtually dry, but there were a few damp patches around waiting to catch the riders out. After an early battle with Kagayama (Suzuki) Troy Bayliss (Ducati) ran out a comfortable winner with Andrew Pitt second and Fonsi Nieto (Kawasaki) third. TROY - Race 1: DNF, Race 2: DNF "What a complete
disappointment! Especially after taking Superpole yesterday
after a couple of difficult days! The only good news is that I
didn’t hurt myself in the crashes. The first race was OK at the
start, even though the track was soaking wet and very slippery.
I led Bayliss for a couple of laps, but soon my visor started
fogging up and I was having to try and look out of the side of
it just to see where I was going! I looked up one time and saw I
was off line and heading into a large patch of water. Next thing
I knew I was down and my race was over. |
