Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) delivered yet another statement ride at the Tissot Grand Prix of Czechia, becoming the first Ducati rider to claim five consecutive Grand Prix victories.

However, the six-time premier class World Champion wasn’t handed the win as Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) pushed him hard in the early laps and ultimately claimed second, 1.7 seconds adrift.

Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) completed the podium with a determined ride that kept Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) at bay in the closing stages.

Bagnaia leads briefly before the shuffle begins

From pole, Bagnaia launched cleanly to lead into Turn 1, but by Turn 3, Marquez had already dived through to the front. Bagnaia responded immediately with a cutback at Turn 4 to lead again. Bezzecchi then forced his way past Marquez at Turn 5. Bagnaia then ran wide at the penultimate corner, opening the door for Bezzecchi to attack at Turn 1 on Lap 2. Marquez repeated his Lap 1 move on Bagnaia at Turn 3, and this time it stuck.

Alex Marquez crashes out, Mir collected

The championship picture took a blow for Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), who attempted an optimistic lunge up the inside of Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) at Turn 12. It ended in disaster for both riders—contact sent them both down and out. Alex leaves Brno with zero points and a Long Lap penalty waiting for him in Austria. For Mir, it was another rough break in a season filled with frustration.

Towards the front, Acosta was next to pounce, overtaking Bagnaia on Lap 3. Behind them, Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) and Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) dispatched Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP), with Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) also closing in.

But Bastianini’s progress came to a sudden halt on Lap 5, he tucked the front at Turn 3 and slid out of contention, bringing a promising weekend to a premature end.

The Decisive Move

On Lap 8, Marquez made his move for the lead. A forceful pass at Turn 3 saw Marc nose ahead of Bezzecchi, and a robust defence at Turn 4 made it stick. With Acosta also joining the lead group, the race was on.

Marquez gradually turned up the pace: a 1:54.184 became a 1:53.787 by Lap 14, and then a stunning 1:53.691 the next time around. Bezzecchi responded, dipping into the 1:53s himself, but couldn’t prevent the gap from creeping out to nearly two seconds.

Meanwhile, Bagnaia had regrouped and was reeling in Acosta. By the final lap, the gap was just four-tenths, but the KTM rookie held his nerve to secure his first full-length Grand Prix podium in MotoGP.

Top ten and title impact

Marquez crossed the line with a comfortable margin, extending his record-breaking streak and stretching his lead in the championship to 120 points. Bezzecchi’s second place was another strong performance, while Acosta’s podium affirmed KTM’s presence at the sharp end.

Bagnaia took P4 after a strong second half, with Fernandez equalling his career-best result in fifth. Quartararo rode to a solid P6.

Martin’s gritty return to racing delivered a valuable P7, remarkable given his injury setbacks and time away from the sport. A great morale boost for Aprilia and the reigning Champion.

Binder, Espargaro, and Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) completed the top ten, helped by a post-race penalty to Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) that dropped the Spaniard to 11th following contact with Miguel Oliveira (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP).

Miller had been looking strong for the early laps before clutch issues under braking started causing problems for the Australian.

Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) finished ahead of Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR), with Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) rounding out the points. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) missed out after a tough weekend.
