Beta 250 GS
With Phil Aynsley
Beta was founded in 1904 by Giuseppe Bianchi and initially focused on manufacturing bicycles. In the late 1940s, the company transitioned to motorized vehicles by adding a simple two-stroke engine to create its first motorcycle—the Cervo 48. Today, Beta remains a highly active manufacturer, best known for its extensive range of off-road motorcycles.

The motorcycle featured here is a 1981 Beta 250 GS, originally introduced in 1975, and remains in original, unrestored condition. The only known deviations from factory specification are the rear sprocket and handlebars.

The GS Enduro model used the same 248 cc two-stroke motor as its CR Motocross sibling.

Bore and stroke is 70 x 64.5 mm and a 13:1 compression ratio is employed. Other engine parts include a 6V flywheel magneto and Dansi CDI ignition. Induction is via a 36 mm Bing 54 carburettor.

Marzocchi magnesium front forks and Corte Cosso rear shocks are used. A chain oiler is fitted behind the right hand side cover.
