Deus And BMW Motorrad Custom R NineT

World-renowned custom motorcycle design house, Deus Ex Machina, has unveiled their custom interpretation of the BMW R nineT, a bike that has already won over an army of fans. The Deus Ex Machina team has introduced special techniques and equipment to sauce up this already appealing roadster.

Carby Tuckwell, Deus Ex Machina Creative Director, was excited to take on this unique project with a like-minded brand.

“The R nineT has been fettled by some of the world’s best custom houses since its release in late 2013. When BMW Australia asked if we’d be interested we jumped at the opportunity,” said Tuckwell.

“The bike is already a modern classic therefore the challenge of transforming it was intriguing.

“Custom bikes can often sacrifice function for style and we wanted this to be an everyday motorcycle. We wanted to create a bike that was a blend of BMW heritage with a hint of R nineT technology,” he said.

“The bikes hand-fabricated alloy tank is a nod to the touring tanks available for early airheads with increased fuel load and a top box that now houses the ignition and fuel filler. The name of the bike – The Heinrich Maneuver, hints at this influence.

“The alloy body work was lovingly hand crafted in Sydney and the seat has been skinned in Kangaroo suede.  Another sweet touch are the custom tank badges, that were created by melting down all the removed alloy parts and sand casting bespoke items.

“After tuning the intake and fabricating a custom pipe set up we managed to massage 110 horses at the rear wheel, a healthy increase of about 6hp over the already ample power of the stock bike to ensure the bike is not only visually engaging. It’s equipped with a surfeit of torque and added audio pleasure,” Tuckwell said.

For BMW Motorrad Australia general manager, Tony Sesto, the Deus project has been truly exciting.

“This project was important for BMW Motorrad and head office backed us all the way. The Deus team was given a free hand and we waited in anticipation to see the finished machine.

“Regular diary entries on the Deus blog kept project followers updated. However, key features and parts weren’t revealed until the launch,” said Sesto.

“They have fused classic elements into the R nineT, especially the beautifully crafted handmade body parts. The end result is an incredible machine that reflects the pure synergies between BMW Motorrad and Deus Ex Machina,” he said.

The Heinrich Maneuver will be displayed at events and in BMW Motorrad dealerships across Australia.
