Webster tops Aussie ProMX Round Three at Gillman

Round Three – Gillman, SA

Round three of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship arrived in Gillman last weekend, with Kyle Webster edging closer to the MX1 points lead by winning the day’s only MX1 moto, as brothers Ryder and Kayd Kingsford stood atop the Pirelli MX2 and MAXXIS MX3 Class podiums, respectively. Charli Cannon again dominating the EZILIFT MXW Class.

Kawasaki MX1 Championship

Boost Mobile Honda Racing’s Webster made it two Kawasaki MX1 round wins in a row after taking the top honours at Gillman. A scorching final lap by the defending champion saw him claim pole position in the AMX Superstores Superpole. Webster’s lap-time of 1:48.092s was more than 1.3s faster than the lap of his close rival Jed Beaton (Monster Energy CDR Yamaha), while Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki’s Luke Clout clocked the third-quickest lap.

The Honda rider would then come from behind to win the MX1 moto by 3.3 seconds over Beaton.

Repco Honda Racing’s Wilson Todd snatched the holeshot, but KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford quickly jumped into the lead. Webster and Beaton made short work of the racers in front of them to resume the status quo at the front of the pack, but despite a late-moto charge from the series-leading Beaton, Webster took the win.

A composed performance by Crawford saw him claim P3 ahead of his teammate Kirk Gibbs, while Clout put in a hard charge from a first-lap crash to steal fifth.

The second MX1 race was abandoned at the midway mark after Joel Evans’ tragic accident.

Beaton remains in control of the championship standings with 113 points, ahead of Webster (100) and Crawford (93).

Pirelli MX2 Championship

Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha’s Ryder Kingsford stopped the Honda Racing camp from clean-sweeping every class at Gillman, taking the round win on countback from championship leader Brodie Connolly.

Connolly (Polyflor Honda Racing) outclassed the MX2 field in qualifying. The defending MX2 champion was 2.3s faster than his nearest rival, Western Australia Yamaha privateer Brock Flynn, while KTM Racing Team’s Noah Ferguson qualified third-quickest.

Kingsford jumped to the front of the pack when the gate dropped on the first Pirelli MX2 moto, but Connolly wasted no time getting to the front. Kingsford pushed the Kiwi hard for the entire moto, but had to settle for P2, just 1.8s behind the Honda rider.

KTM Racing Team teenager Byron Dennis finished on the podium, holding off teammate Noah Ferguson and NFAL Honda Racing’s Alex Larwood, who recovered from a first-turn crash.

Kingsford stormed to the second-moto win and claimed the round victory on countback. The Yamaha rider was quickest to the first turn, but Connolly swung past him shortly after to temporarily take the lead. An early mistake by the defending champion saw Kingsford regain control and the Honda rider work his way back from P8 into P2.

Mistakes from both riders saw the buffer between the two vary wildly, but Kingsford ultimately took the win by 18 seconds. A great ride from Jayce Cosford (Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha) saw him take P3, with Ferguson and Seth Burchell (Bulk Nutrients Echuca Yamaha) inside the top five.

Kingsford took the round win on countback from Connolly, with Ferguson third. In the points chase, Connolly retains his four-point lead (142 to 138), with Ferguson jumping up to the P3 spot (99).

MAXXIS MX3 Championship

A double-moto victory saw Pro Honda Racing’s Kayd Kingsford sweep the MAXXIS MX3 Class and take the series lead.

Championship leader Ky Woods (Monster Energy WBR Yamaha) topped the qualifying sessions ahead of Kingsford and WA rider Jake Rumens (Husqvarna).

It was a statement victory from Kingsford in the opening MAXXIS MX3 moto – he grabbed the holeshot and checked out to finish 31.6s ahead of Woods, who was later penalised for a starting infringement. Honda rider Jet Alsop finished third despite dropping his bike late in the race, and Jack Deveson (Husqvarna) made a last-lap pass on Jackson Fuller (KTM) to take P4.

It was another dream race for Kingsford in the second MX3 moto, with a wire-to-wire win. Woods put in a desperate race from outside the top five to finish second, 2.5 behind his nearest title contender, while KTM’s Seth Shackleton had a great ride in third.

Alsop and Deveson wrapped up the top five in the race, while the round podium was filled by Kingsford, Alsop, and Deveson.

In the championship fight, Kingsford has taken control of the red plate, with 141 points, ahead of Woods (119) and Alsop (113).

EZILIFT MXW Championship

SCT Logistics Honda Racing’s Charli Cannon continues to remain unbeaten in 2025 after two resounding moto wins in the EZILIFT MXW class.

Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki rider Taylah McCutcheon finished the day second, while Taylor Thompson (KTM) completed the round podium.

Cannon was in another league from the outset, qualifying almost three seconds quicker than McCutcheon and Karaitiana Horne (Penrite Racing GO24 Kawasaki). Cannon barely put a foot wrong on her way to a comfortable 42.3-second win in the opening EZILIFT MXW moto.

KTM’s Taylor Thompson finished a distant second, while McCutcheon recovered from a first-lap crash with Horne to pip Yamaha’s Madi Simpson for P3. Darci Whalley (KTM) finished P5.

Cannon continued her onslaught in the second moto, with another dominant wire-to-wire performance. The Queenslander coasted to a 47.5-second victory over McCutcheon, while a fast-finishing Horne saw her make late passes to take the finish on the moto podium.

Whalley and Madison Healey (GASGAS) filled the remaining top five spots.

In the championship standings, Cannon holds a perfect 100 points, with McCutcheon second (74) and Thompson third (67).
