The 2013 Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show exploded into Claremont last weekend and gave the people of Perth a show like nothing they’d ever seen before!
Nearly 17,500 people came to the event, which was held across three days, and the feedback was a general consensus of “wow”!
The Show, which is held every two years, was celebrating its 20th year, and Show Director Peter Woods said when putting the Show together, they didn’t hold back!
“From international celebrities to Aussie sporting legends, new bikes that hadn’t even been released to the public, Australia’s best stunt riders and more!” Peter said when describing the Show.
“This was all about taking motorbike entertainment to a new level, and we are pretty sure we succeeded! The feedback we got was all positive, people loved the show and can’t wait for the next one.”
“This was the first year we have held the Show at Claremont Showgrounds, and think this venue is ideal for an event such as this. The indoor pavilions were filled with new product displays, bikes and accessories; as well as the MotoLive stage entertainment area and the Show & Shine displays”
“Outdoors, we used the track for freestyle motocross demos and trials demos, plus speedway racing and motocross displays. On the bitumen we had a little area set up for kids to have a go on a quad bike, and adults to try out scooters; plus of course you couldn’t miss the burn out pit that was Matt Mingay’s stunt arena!”
“We are extremely pleased with the way the weekend turned out, and glad to have brought such an awesome event to the people of Perth,” Peter said.
International guest
The 2013 Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show welcomed international guest Charley Boorman to Perth to appear at the event. Charley, well known for his motorbike adventures in The Long Way Round with Ewan McGregor, was thrilled to be in Perth for the 20th anniversary of the Show.
Charley spent all weekend at the Show, speaking on stage, greeting fans and demonstrating adventure bike riding outside on the track.
In addition, he presented his Live Show in the theatre, which was well received. Quotes such as “Wonderful and so entertaining”, “what a lovely bloke” and “so funny” were some of the feedback received from visitors to Charley’s Live Show.
Charley Boorman then spent a few days relaxing and enjoying Perth before heading to Sydney to attend the Sydney Motorcycle and Scooter Show.
An Aussie legend causes a stir in Perth!
The Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show is proud to support the motorcycling community, and this year was no exception.
A charity ride was held on the Saturday morning to raise funds for YouthFocus – a West Australian organization that deals with mental health issues in teenagers. The ride was headed up by Aussie sporting legend Mick Doohan!
“We had to have a big name person lead the charity ride, and they don’t come much bigger than Mick Doohan!” Peter said.
And it proved successful with more almost 1500 bikes participating in the ride from Stirling to the Showgrounds. The sights were caught on film by Channel 7’s Sunday Night program which will present a special on Mick Doohan on November 24; plus the sounds of so many bikes was heard for miles. Nothing like the thundering rumble of more than 1000 motorcycles to make you pay attention!
“The ride was a bigger success than we had imagined, and it was a little chaotic parking all the bikes, but we got there in the end,” Peter said.
“Everyone who participated enjoyed themselves, and we were extremely pleased to have raised nearly $20,000 for YouthFocus, which is a huge effort.”
Mick Doohan also appeared at the Show to speak onstage to an eager audience of adoring fans, and then signed autographs before he had to leave.
YouthFocus organisers were overwhelmed with the response of the charity ride and thanked Show organisers for such a massive fund raising effort.
Bikes and more!
Walking around the pavilions was a dream come true for motorcycle fans. All the big name brands were on display including Harley Davidson, KTM, Suzuki, Yamaha, BMW, Kawasaki, Honda, Ducati, Aprilia, Benelli, Moto Guzzi, KTM, Triumph, Vespa, Piaggio and more.
“Harley Davidson brought their full corporate display, which was huge,” Peter said.
“Plus we were lucky enough to be able to show the new KTM Super Duke 1200R at the Show in a world first showing! KTM were going to hold off until the Sydney Motorcycle Show to launch this bike, but decided the fly one to Perth especially for the Show.”
“This particular bike certainly got people’s attention, as did the many other new releases that were on display,” Peter said.
Bike displays, accessories, riding gear and lifestyle products filled the pavilions, plus visitors were able to check out the new release bikes on stage. The MotoLive stage show was held across the day with several new bikes being brought up on stage for review.
Fashion parades on stage demonstrated the latest gear, and entertained crowds; plus at the other end of the pavilions, the 66 Motorcycles Café was a huge attraction, with vintage clothes, awesome bike displays, music and body painting displays as well as café and bar for visitors to enjoy.
At the other end of the pavilions, the Show & Shine competition also proved popular and had more than 25 bikes on display.
A massive stunt show!
A whole range of motorbike entertainment was organized for the weekend to make sure there was always something to look at!
The FMX stunt riders, who were at the Show thanks to ASPXtreme, amazed the crowds. If you’ve never seen motorbikes flying through the air, it was certainly something that is worth a second look!
Stunt shows were held across the day with jumps and flips being performed to the delight of the crowds.
Trials demos, junior and senior motocross demos and speedway racing were also held on the arena.
The stunt arena began as a simple bitumen area and ended the weekend thick with burned rubber from the Stuntz Inc stunt show! Australia’s number one stunt rider Matt Mingay and one of his team members caused a stir each time they performed. Always a crowd pleased, Matt performed three times a day and left crowds in a cloud of smoke and screaming for more!
Getting kids involved is always a drawcard, and the kid’s quad bike areas proved popular; as did the Come Try Riding area.
Future event – The Perth Motorcycle and Scooter Show is a bi-ennial event. The next Show will be held on the weekend of 6-8 November 2015. More information will be made available on the website www.perthbikeshow.com.au.
