19 year old Cessnock rider Rick Olson has won the Reece Bancell Scholarship for 2009
Rick Olson, being presented with the 2009 Reece Bancell Scholarship Trophy and cheque while being handed the new Yamaha R6 Super Stock bike, supplied by Yamaha and YRD, with David Bancell and Marty Dowd from YRT.
The presentation was made at the Reece Bancell Association Charity Auction and Dinner at Homebush on November 22nd.
The Reece Bancell Scholarship is proud to announce that it has joined forces with Yamaha and Yamaha Racing Developments (YRD) to supply Rick with his Yamaha R6 Super Stock weapon to contest the ASBK Series in 2009, in what will be the first year of a Junior Development Team designed to assist young riders in the racing development and to give them the benefits and insights in to a full factory team, without the pressures.
A BIG thank you to Marty Dowd from Yamaha Racing Super sport Team who specially prepared the 2009 Yamaha R6 for the presentation and will be maintaining the Reece Bancell Scholarship/YRD R6 throughout 2009, for a full-on assault on the Super Stock Championship, which in 2009 will be awarded full National Australian Championship status for the first time!
Rick is a C grader from Cessnock and in only his 2nd year of road racing finished 3rd overall in the Yamaha FZ6 Cup series in 2008, with lap records, pole positions and excellent performances throughout the year which impressed the judges of the Reece Bancell Scholarship.
Rick has come from a solid background racing in dirt track and Moto-cross where he won many titles and races in his development years before making the switch to road racing in 2007. Another young guy from the Hunter region who is destined for the top!
The Reece Bancell Scholarship is extremely proud and excited to join forces with Yamaha once again, and welcomes new in 2009, YRD, to assist in promoting and developing young road racers at the Australian Championship level and look forward to an exciting year with Rick Olson.
