Midwinter replaces McGillivray for ISDE
Max Midwinter will replace the injured Riley McGillivray in Australia’s Junior World Trophy team at the 2026 FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Portugal from October 12-17.
Complications from a recently broken femur have forced McGillivray to withdraw, with 20-year-old South Australian Midwinter to fill his spot in the Junior World Trophy alongside William Dennett and fellow ISDE rookie Kogan Lock.
Max Midwinter
Midwinter is enjoying an exceptional season in the 2026 Yamaha Australian Enduro Championship presented by MXstore (AusEnduro), running second in the E3 category behind fellow KTM rider Korey McMahon. He’s also seventh in the ‘best of the best’ Pro Enduro class, making up two spots at the latest AusEnduro rounds in Casterton (Vic) on June 20-21.
In 2025, Midwinter finished fifth in the E2 class and 17th in ProEnduro.
“From the beginning of racing a dream of mine was to represent Australia on the world stage:” said Midwinter. “Now that it’s a reality I’m over the moon with excitement and ready to put my best foot forward and see what we can achieve.”
Team Australia’s 2026 ISDE campaign will again receive backing from online retailer, MXstore. Established in 2010, MXstore carries Australia’s largest range of riding gear, aftermarket dirt bike parts and accessories.

AMA Pro MX reignites at RedBud following Summer break
The Pro Motocross Championship returns to action at the RedBud National this Saturday, marking the 53rd running and America’s 250th Anniversary.
The track challenges riders with a little bit of everything – high speeds allow riders to hang it out, big obstacles like LaRocco’s Leap send bikes soaring through the air, and some of the most technical sections in the championship.
Jett Lawrence
In the 450SMX Class, the sibling rivalry between Honda HRC Progressive teammates Jett and Hunter Lawrence is expected to continue. They have an equal share of victories after the first month of racing and return from the break separated by just two points.
While Jett has won two of the past three years at RedBud, Hunter has the momentum from arguably the most dominant performance of his career at the most recent round, where he came out on top of a head-to-head battle with his younger brother.
Hunter Lawrence
Still lurking behind the Lawrences is Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan. The rookie continues to make progress just four races into his premier class career and is determined to challenge the Australian duo for wins, not just podiums. The top American in the class is no doubt going to bring some added motivation from the holiday atmosphere, at the same venue where he broke through for his first professional win three years ago.
Additionally, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado is poised to make it a four-rider affair. The Spaniard has shown flashes of the speed that made him a multi-time world champion and continues to put in the work during the week to become a more consistent threat at the front of the field.
A wild opening month of 250SMX Class competition has produced four different winners through the first four races. As such, the early title fight is exceptionally close.
Levi Kitchen
While Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen will carry the red plate for a second race, his advantage in the standings is just a single point over Honda HRC Progressive’s Jo Shimoda and just two points over Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Julien Beaumer.
Sitting seven points out of the lead is Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies, fresh off the most dominant effort of the young season that netted him a first Pro Motocross victory.
While Shimoda could be considered the favorite given his two previous victories at RedBud, including last season, the unpredictability of the class thus far means it’s anyone’s guess as to who will rise to the occasion this weekend.
Jo Shimoda
With the championship battle in flux, RedBud presents an opportunity for a statement performance that could swing the points into someone’s favor and could very likely produce a fifth different winner in what has been a wide-open campaign thus far.
In addition to the 450SMX and 250SMX classes, RedBud will also host the first SMX Next – Motocross gathering of the summer to kick off the weekend.

Jo Shimoda set for 450 debut at AUSX
Jo Shimoda has been confirmed for the 2026 Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship, with the Honda HRC Progressive rider set to make his 450 Supercross debut in Australia this November.
Jo Shimoda
Shimoda will race the AUSX Open at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong on Saturday, November 7, before also lining up at HBF Park in Perth on Saturday, November 14. The appearances will come before the Japanese rider returns to the 250 class for the 2027 AMA Supercross season.

FIM Flat Track World Championship – Round Three
Neave breaks through at Teterow
Tim Neave claimed a career-first FIM Flat Track World Championship victory at Teterow in Germany, the British rider turning the tables on VRX Dirt Store Ducati team-mate Ashton Boughen after the teenager had won the opening two rounds of the 2026 season.
FIM Flat Track World Championship – Round Three – Image by Jesper Veldhuizen
Boughen arrived in Germany chasing a hat-trick after victories in the Netherlands and Italy, but it was 31-year-old Neave who made the decisive move at round three, dropping just a single point through the heat races before taking control of the Grand Final on a hot and technical Teterow track.
The heat races were cut to six laps due to soaring temperatures, but Neave was strong throughout. He opened with a win over Nikita Alyani, then backed that up with another victory over Gerard Bailo to hold a two-point advantage at the halfway stage. Boughen remained in the hunt with heat race wins of his own, while Sammy Halbert, Mathias Lorenzato, Bailo and others kept the pressure on in a tightly contested programme.
In the Grand Final, Lorenzato led away from the tapes before Neave regrouped, repassed Bailo for second, then closed on the Argentinian and made the decisive move for victory. Lorenzato, making his first appearance in the series since 2023, held on for second, while former champion Halbert completed the podium aboard the Swiss-designed OMT 450 project bike.
Boughen finished fourth and claimed the extra point for fastest lap in the Grand Final, enough to retain the championship lead, but Neave’s win has tightened the title chase. Neave now sits second in the standings alongside Bailo, the pair nine-points adrift of Boughen with seven rounds still to run.
Bailo finished fifth at Teterow ahead of defending and two-time champion Ervin Krajčovič, with Ondřej Svědík, Gary Birtwistle, Sébastien Jeanpierre and Stanislav Ohorodnik completing the top ten.

Grand Final top ten: Tim Neave, Mathias Lorenzato, Sammy Halbert, Ashton Boughen, Gerard Bailo, Ervin Krajčovič, Ondřej Svědík, Gary Birtwistle, Sébastien Jeanpierre, Stanislav Ohorodnik.

U21 Speedway World Championship finalists confirmed
Twelve places were up for grabs for the 2026 FIM Speedway Under 21 World Championship (SGP2) Finals over the weekend, with qualifiers held in Pardubice in the Czech Republic, Fjelsted in Denmark and Krško in Slovenia.
With four riders from each Qualifier making the cut for the three Finals in Malilla on 10 July, Łódź in Poland on 31 July and Vojens in Denmark on 11 September, the on-track action was intense, with racing getting under way first in the Plochodrážní Stadion Svítkov at Pardubice.
Czech Republic
After France’s Tino Bouin claimed victory in the opening Heat of the afternoon, Przyjemski defeated Parnitskyi and there were early wins for Denmark’s William Drejer and Adam Bubba Bednar from the Czech Republic.
Parnitskyi then won at his second attempt and there was a first victory for James Pearson from Australia, but after two blocks it was Przyjemski and Drejer who shared the lead on an undefeated six points each.
The third block of racing started with three new winners as Britain’s Ace Pijper, Mitchell McDiarmid from Australia and swift Swede Rasmus Karlsson all recorded victories before Przyjemski led home Drejer to move into the lead on his own.
Further wins followed for Przyjemski, Bednar, Drejer and McDiarmid in block four to set up a dramatic final block and after the Australian booked his place in the top four alongside Drejer, Przyjemski completed his maximum to ensure the top step of the podium.
Bednar also made sure that he was heading to Sweden when he signed off with a win, but there was disappointment for Parnitskyi whose second behind Karlsson saw him miss the all-important top four by just a point before a three-rider run-off for second was won by Drejer from Bednar and McDiarmid.

The action was even closer in Denmark where Australian Tate Zischke got the evening’s programme under way with a win and Germany’s Janek Konzack followed suit before hotly tipped Pole Kevin Malkiewicz defeated home star Mikkel Andersen and Antoni Mencel made it two Polish winners in the opening block of racing.
Mencel’s second win, that this time came at the expense of Malkiewicz, gave him the lead following the second block that also saw victories for Erik Persson from Sweden, Denmark’s Nicolai Heiselberg and Andersen.
Zischke, Andersen and Malkiewicz all took their second wins of the evening in block three, but Mencel maintained his unbeaten record to lead by a point as the programme passed the halfway mark, although his advantage was short-lived.
Further wins from Andersen and Malkiewicz, combined with Mencel dropping his first point of the evening when he trailed home Britain’s Luke Killeen, resulted in a three-way tie at the top with one block to go once American Slater Lightcap had moved into contention with his first victory.
Following four pointless rides, Finland’s Otto Raak claimed a consolation win to start the fifth and final block before Malkiewicz won from super-consistent Heiselberg – who took the final qualifying position – as Andersen tied things at the top with his fourth win with Mencel’s third-placed finish dropping him out of contention for victory, although he was still guaranteed a place in the Finals.
Konzack too signed off with a victory, but a retirement in his second Heat left him in a frustrating fifth before Andersen won the run-off for first from Malkiewicz.

The third and final Qualifying round in Slovenia was the closest of the day with Poland’s Maksymilian Pawelczak, the 2024 FIM Speedway Youth World Champion, taking the top step of the podium following a three-rider run-off with Villads Nagel from Denmark and Britain’s William Cairns.
After Polish racer Bartosz Banbor had won the opening Heat, Pawelczak defeated Cairns and Nagel also got his evening under way with victory, as did Australian Beau Bailey who then made it two wins in a row after Cairns led home Nagel. Pawelczak and Banbor also maintained their unbeaten run, resulting in a three-way tie for the lead heading into the third block.
Following his victory ahead of Banbor, Pawelczak moved into the lead on his own after Bailey was third behind Nagel and home rider Sven Cerjak, but Cairns remained in contention with his third win and Germany’s Mario Haeusl also picked up three points.
With his fourth win from four starts, this time ahead of Bailey, Pawelczak ensured he kept hold of his slim lead and there were wins for Cerjak, Cairns and Nagel to set up a thrilling fifth and final block that started with a victory for Haeusl from Cerjak that saw both riders narrowly miss out on a qualifying position.
Nagel signed off by inflicting Pawelczak’s first defeat of the evening and then Cairns defeated Bailey – the fourth and final qualifier – to set up the deciding run-off won by Pawelczak.

Yamaha Racing Snowshoe GNCC Report
The 2026 Yamaha Racing Snowshoe GNCC was another unforgettable weekend of racing atop Snowshoe Mountain, with championship battles tightening, milestone victories, and valuable points on the line at the ninth round of the season.
Snowshoe GNCC Start – Image by Mack Faint
Steward Baylor finally checked one of the biggest accomplishments off his GNCC career by conquering Snowshoe Mountain and earning his first overall victory at the Snowshoe GNCC. After years of coming close at one of the toughest and most unpredictable races on the schedule, Baylor put together a masterful ride through the rocky, technical terrain to claim the overall win.
Steward Baylor
“It was a frustrating day, a little bit right off the bat. I just made a mistake, and I knew at the back of my mind we’re swapping that tire,” said Steward Baylor. “So, I guess not frustrating, but struggled throughout the day, just knowing we’ve got to have that gap to do that tyre and man, it really went away there on lap three and I wasn’t able to keep the gap that I had. So those guys closed in a good bit, but I knew if I can make it to the pits I was anywhere close. I knew I had an advantage on those last two with a fresh tire and that’s what we did. But yeah, it was fun. I mean, I led obviously most of that race and had a lot of speed. We did a lot of work this week. I think my mechanic is better than anybody at changing tyres at this point. I think we went through 16 or 17 tyres, four miles out in the woods off the jeep path.”
Steward Baylor (Rocky Mountain Red Bear Kawasaki Team Green) – Image by Mack Faint
Baylor’s Snowshoe victory comes at a pivotal point in the championship chase, as he has battled back from three DNFs earlier in the season to move within just 12 points of the points leader.
Baylor continued, “It’s the best year I feel like I’ve personally had, obviously, those few bike issues at the beginning of the year, set us back. But now the goal is definitely set on the championship. I think just quick math doing it here at about nine points down, 10 points down, which is, we’re back in this thing after three DNF’s if that’s not dominance I don’t know what is.”
Phoenix Racing Honda’s Angus Riordan turned in an outstanding performance, battling through the grueling mountain terrain to earn second overall and the XC2 250 Pro class victory. Riordan maintained an impressive pace throughout the race, mixing it up with the XC1 Open Pro riders while staying in control of the XC2 class.
Angus Riordan
“It feels unreal. This hill normally kicks my a**. I told the boys I’m going to make this hill my – I better not say the other world, and yeah, I felt good,” said Angus Riordan. “I got off to a good start, I was last off the jump and then I tucked up the inside, and I was second in our group, and it was sort of a big train – I was feeling good the whole time. Then it was one hell of a race.”

With his Snowshoe victory, Riordan also took over the lead in the XC2 250 Pro championship standings heading into the GNCC Racing summer break. The Australian rider plans to keep his momentum rolling by mixing up his schedule over the break, lining up at select AMA Pro Motocross events before returning to defend his points lead when the GNCC season resumes later this summer.
Riordan continued, “I feel good after how my year started. I said my goal was points lead by summer break, and I’ve got it and the way my years started I’m pretty happy, it makes me confident that I’ve got it. And yeah, bit of a break now might go do a few pro motocross rounds and mix it up a bit and then come out swinging for the last four, but three points, which has been annoying, but yeah, say, ready to go.”
Rebounding from a couple of tough races with a strong performance was Jordan Ashburn. Finishing third overall on the day and second in the XC1 Open Pro class, Ashburn put together the kind of consistent ride needed to return to the front of the field.
Jordan Ashburn
“Man, that one today – it was brutal,” said Ashburn. “Just super slick conditions, super technical and I think that power point hill was harder than it’s ever been this year. Like the last couple laps, I’m like man I got to get up this thing because it was so loose. I don’t know just, Stu got away early and had some really good lines back on the backside and I just never seen him, never seen him – and I just kind of charged from there and then Gus caught up and he was right on me. Me and him pretty much railed it from there.”
Jordan Ashburn (Phoenix Racing Honda) – Image by Mack Faint
Ashburn’s Snowshoe podium also helped him regain the Overall National Championship points lead. With both Ashburn and XC2 250 Pro class points leader Riordan under the Phoenix Honda tent, the team will carry two reverse number plates when the series resumes racing in September, giving Phoenix Racing Honda strong momentum heading into the final stretch of the championship battle.
Jhak Walker turned in another impressive ride, finishing fourth overall while earning second in the XC2 250 Pro class. Rounding out the top five overall finishers was Grant Baylor, earning third in the XC1 Open Pro class.
Joshua Toth and Grant Davis battled through the demanding conditions to finish sixth and seventh overall, respectively, while Liqui Moly Factory Beta Racing’s Josh Strang earnt an eighth-place overall finish after another consistent day aboard his Beta. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Craig DeLong followed in ninth overall, and rounding out the top 10 overall finishers was FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Benjamin Kelley.
Jason Tino rounded out the XC2 250 Pro podium with a third-place finish after another consistent ride through the demanding Snowshoe Mountain course. With his podium result, Tino now sits tied for second in the XC2 250 Pro championship standings alongside Walker as the series heads into its summer break, setting up an exciting battle for the remainder of the season.
Steede earned victory in the WXC class, maintaining strong pace throughout the race to secure the win over Brandy Richards and AmPro Yamaha’s Danielle McDonald, who completed the Women’s podium.
The GNCC Racing Series will now take its annual summer break before returning to action September 18-20 for The Wiseco John Penton GNCC in Millfield, Ohio.

Australian Tom Drane arrived at the Allen County Fairgrounds with a 20-point KICKER AFT Singles championship lead, a formidable recent record at Lima, and the all-time class wins record within reach. He left Ohio with both Lima victories, a fifth straight win at the venue, and sole ownership of that AFT Singles record.
Tom Drane
It was also a strong weekend for the wider Australian contingent. Bodie Paige made a stunning Progressive AFT debut with second on Friday and third on Saturday, while Jed Fyffe and Neiko Donovan made it an Australian one-three in the final AFT ProSport 450 Main Event of the season.
Jed Fyffe
In Mission AFT SuperTwins, the weekend produced a sharp reversal of fortune. Briar Bauman arrived at Lima with four consecutive premier-class wins and continued that streak on Friday, only for Dallas Daniels to strike back on Saturday as the title fight tightened again.
Briar Bauman
The racing narrative, however, sat alongside far heavier news. AMA Pro Racing announced that Dan Bromley had passed following an on-track incident during Saturday’s event. Bromley was a third-generation flat track racer, the 2018 AFT Singles champion, and the 2025 AFT AdventureTrackers champion. MCNews.com.au extends its condolences to Dan’s family, friends, team-mates, fellow competitors and the wider American Flat Track community.

Progressive American Flat Track heads next to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Illinois, for the Drag Specialties DuQuoin Mile on Saturday, July 4. It will be the first Mile event of the 2026 season
The MXGP World Championship moved from the old-school hard-pack of Montevarchi to the distinctive red clay of Águeda for round ten of the 2026 season, and after the recent wet-weather editions of the Portuguese Grand Prix, this year finally delivered the circuit in hot, dry and properly raceable form.
It also produced another heavyweight MXGP battle between Jeffrey Herlings and Lucas Coenen, with both riders winning a moto and finishing locked together on 47 points. Herlings took the Grand Prix overall on the Race Two countback, making it back-to-back GP victories and marking the 117th Grand Prix win of his career.
Jeffrey Herlings
That result also made it five Grand Prix victories from ten rounds for Herlings in his first season with Honda, but Coenen still managed to nudge his MXGP championship advantage out by one point thanks to his Saturday qualifying win.
Jeffrey Herlings – 2-1, first overall
“It was a good weekend, winning GP number 117. I think myself and Lucas were about the same speed throughout the weekend, just the small margins in timed practice and the qualifying race and then these two motos. I got stuck a bit behind some guys in race one and couldn’t close the gap, but in race two I was able to get into second place after one lap so I could push and challenge for the win.”
Lucas Coenen – 1-2, second overall
“Consistency was key. I knew I’d won the Quali race and the first moto so the weekend was already good. I have to say that I’m a clean rider but I will also take any opportunities that are there. Overall, not bad. We’ll take the positives today and look on to South Africa next week.”
In MX2, Guillem Farres was the class of the field. The Triumph Factory Racing rider won Saturday’s qualifying race and both Sunday motos for a perfect 1-1-1 weekend and a major blow in the title chase, reducing Sacha Coenen’s advantage to 32 points.
Guillem Farres – 1-1, first overall
“It was an amazing weekend here in Portugal. To come away with a perfect 1-1-1 score is exactly what we were aiming for, so I’m really happy with how everything came together. I got two good starts on Sunday, which made a big difference, and from there I was able to manage both races, control my pace, and make smart decisions. The bike was working really well and I felt comfortable all weekend. A huge thank you to the team for all of their hard work. The goal now is to keep this momentum going and fight for results like this at every round.”
Guillem Farres
The Coenen brothers again kept Belgium front and centre, with Lucas second overall in MXGP and Sacha third overall in MX2, while Romain Febvre returned to the MXGP podium for Kawasaki, Janis Reisulis claimed his first MX2 overall podium, and Francisco Garcia continued to dominate EMX250 as Aussie Jake Cannon kept himself second in the championship.
Jake Cannon
Jake Cannon – 13-5, ninth overall
“It was a weekend of two very different races. I was determined to rebound in race two and did that with P5. I got an awesome start but got pushed wide at the first turn and had to come through the pack.”
