2012 MX Nationals Calendar & format Updated

Williams Event Management has announced the venues that will make up the 10-round MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, in 2012.

After releasing the provisional dates and states in November, WEM has now officially confirmed the event locations, spanning across five states for this year as the series returns to Western Australia.

“We are very excited with the venues for the 2012 championship series,” WEM’s Kevin Williams commented. “The two TBA venues will be finalised within the next two weeks.

“With the addition of new teams and the increase in trucks now over 20 transporters, we are making sure we have room in the paddock for all the trucks.”

The series will kick-off at Conondale in Queensland on 1 April before the field of world-class contenders do battle throughout the months of April, May, July and August.

WEM will release the official formats for the 2012 series on Monday, 23 January.

2012 MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, Calendar:
Rd1 – 1 April – Conondale, QLD
Rd2 – 14-15 April – Coonabarabran, NSW
Rd3 – 28-29 April – Wonthaggi, VIC
Rd4 – 12-13 May – Wanneroo, WA
Rd5 – 20 May – Murray Bridge, SA
Rd6 – 1 July – TBA, QLD
Rd7 – 15 July – TBA, VIC
Rd8 – 29 July – Appin, NSW
Rd9 – 19 August – Moree, NSW
Rd10 – 25-26 August – Coolum, QLD

— WEM confirms format structure of 2012 MX Nationals series

Australian motocross continues to create and evolve custom formats specific to the national series, introducing formats that will feature a blend of traditional motos around 30 minutes in length, as well as a mix of spectacular shorter, back-to-back races.

“Everybody has different opinions on formats, some are very traditional and others like the fast-paced shorter format,” WEM boss Kevin Williams explained.

“I think the compromise we have come up with will be a win-win for all. We are very excited about the 2012 championship and I believe that we have the best rider line-up ever, so it’s going to be one season not to miss.”

The formats of the MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will be structured by the number of laps for each race, rather than timed to a certain length in 2012.

Pro Open*
2 x 10-lap motos back-to-back and 1 x 16-lap moto (three motos per round)

— TAG Heuer named Official Watch and Timing Partner of the MX Nationals

WEM has partnered with world-renowned brand TAG Heuer for the national championship that will span 10 rounds in 2012.

Riders will be fitting brand new TAG Heuer transponders to their bikes and WEM will use TAG Heuer Track Intelligence to manage the timing and rider registration for the series.

In addition, the MX1 (Pro Open) championship winner will be awarded with a TAG Heuer watch each year over the three-year agreement.

“We are delighted to be partnered with TAG Heuer,” said WEM boss Kevin Williams. “This partnership will see the timing at the events go live for the fans. For the riders and teams, the information they can analyse will be amazing.

“Part of the partnership includes TAG Heuer Track Intelligence, which will simply put rider registration well into the 21st century and provides more for the riders, teams and sponsors.”

Aaron Clarke, managing director of Event Timing, is pleased to partner with Australia’s premier motocross racing series.

“Event Timing is delighted to provide our ongoing support to the Australian MX Nationals,” Clarke commented. “This long-term partnership kicks off an exciting year for the MX Nationals series and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase our market leading event management tools at this year’s events.

“As well as offering competitors and spectators our full suite of on-day and on-line registration tools, live accurate results, detailed lap reports and historical rider data, we’ll also have a chance to implement the latest TAG Heuer FIM certified transponder and Track Intelligence software for the first time in Australia – something we’re all excited about.”

The 2012 championship series will commence on 1 April at Conondale in Queensland.
