Race Center Yamaha 2015 Supersport Team Announced

After a very exciting start to 2015 with their recent wildcard appearance at the Swann Insurance round of the World Superbike championship and appearance at the AMCN International Island Classic with Jed Metcher, Race Center has now turned it’s focus to fielding a young development team in the Swann Insurance Australasian Supersport Championship.

Piloting the all conquering Yamaha YZF-R6 will be the 2 rider line up of South Australian Jay Presepio and Victorian teenager Callum Alderson. Race Center’s primary objective for 2015 is the development of the next generation of rider and what better way then using the amazing experience gained from World Superbike and working with the extremely talented and experienced Jed Metcher. The experience and knowledge of the Race Center outfit continues to grow from strength to strength since their establishment in 2014 and working with 2 young and dedicated riders present a very exciting time for all involved.

The Race Center Yamaha Supersport team will have their first hit out together on March 16 and 17 at Sydney Motorsport park as a shakedown before round 1 of the championship. It will be a battle against time for 17 year old Alderson as he recovers from a nasty bout of glandular fever. Callum won’t be rushed onto his beautiful, new YZF-R6 as his long term recovery is the primary concern for the team.

While the new Supersport team will be their primary focus at the ASC, Race Center will continue to support their customer base throughout 2015 at all other events and in a limited capacity at the ASC itself.

Team principal Darren Sciberras: “The growth and development of our sport here in Australia has always been a dream of ours and a big factor into the establishment of Race Center in the first place. So we couldn’t be happier then to resume our working relationship and development of both Jay and Callum, now in a more formal capacity. They both have an amazing amount to offer not only as riders but people so we are stoked.

“It’s also great to be using Yamaha machinery, Yamaha have long supported the development of our sport here in Australian and the performance of the YZF-R6 is unquestionable. The R6 has long been the 600 Supersport class leader, I can’t even remember the last time any other bike won a national supersport title here in Australia, so the decision of which supersport machine for us to use was simple. With the release of the all new YZF-R1 it’s an exciting time for Yamaha and we are wrapped to associated with a brand that has racing at their very core.

“As always none of what we are undertaking would remotely possible without the amazing efforts of the whole team here Race Center, they are just the best bunch of people you could ever hope to work with.”

Jay Presepio – “I’m really excited to have been given the opportunity to be involved with Race Center once again for 2015. Last year was a big learning curve for me and Darren Sciberras was an incredible mentor to have alongside us assisting not only with bike setup but also playing a key role in developing me as a national level rider.

“I have yet to come across a harder working bunch of people, the time and effort all the guys at Race Center put into this team and the sport in general is amazing to see and be apart of.

“I want to thank Yamaha and YRD for their ongoing support this year, our main mechanic Phil McCourt of Northern Motorcycles who continues to be an integral part of our team and not to mention the endless support from my Dad.

“Looking forward to the season ahead and can’t wait to get racing underway. Thanks to all those following our progress.”

Callum Alderson – “I’m absolutely stoked to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the Race Center Yamaha Supersport team for 2015.

“2014 was such a steep learning curve for me, working with the boys at Race Center really stepped up my game and I cant wait to see what we can achieve as a team this year as we get closer to round 1 of ASC.

“Daz at Race Center wasn’t just able to offer me technical support, he opened a number of doors for me and developed me as a rider confident enough to take on such a strong field in the 2015 season.

“Having the guidance of Jed Metcher who had a strong involvement in my off season training and practice has been an amazing experience. It’s wonderful that a rider of his caliber is so willing to help those less experienced in the sport and he has given us a great base to work from.

“It’s not only Super Daz and Jed though, Mal, Dingo and the rest of the boys at Race center have helped me along the way.

“I was also given the opportunity to work at the Race Center workshop to see the inner workings of the team and I cannot be happier to work with such a committed and hard working team.

“Thank you to all of my sponsors for getting me to this level and thank you to Yamaha and YRD for getting onboard for the 2015 season and of course my parents for their ongoing support!

“I can’t wait to get my fitness back on track and get back on the bike for some testing at Sydney Motor Sport Park this month.”
