MV Agusta update 2018 models – F3 675 & 800, Dragster 800 RR

MV Agusta has continued development of its F3 675, F3 800 and Brutale 800 RR models by introducing Euro 4 certification across the entire three-cylinder range, offering the opportunity to carry out further development and technical improvements to these models for 2018.

MV Agusta’s designers and engineers focused on two objectives,  compliance with Euro4, and in keeping with MV Agusta traditions, maintenance of the engineering and dynamics its motorcycles are renowned for, despite gas and noise emissions needing to be reduced by 50% and 48% respectively.

2018 MV Agusta F3 675 & 800 updates

The F3 675 and F3 800 share many new mechanical and electronic features, as well as improvements to the chassis. In particular, the three-cylinder engine benefits from a new frame mount point, which increases torsional and longitudinal rigidity. Here’s the full list of changes for the 2018 models:

2018 MV Agusta F3 675
  • 128hp for the F3 675, and 144hp for the F3 800.
  • Completely new balance shaft, 2.25 gear tooth pitch with 30% more engagement to reduce noise, modified profiles which optimise contact and reduce friction, optimised plain bearing clearances to reduce wear and noise.
  • New oil and water pump drive gearing, z39/45 2.25 gear tooth pitch with 30% more engagement to reduce noise, and modified profiles which optimise contact and reduce friction.
  • Redesigned primary gearing, z22/41 2.25 gear tooth pitch with 30% more gearing to reduce noise, and modified profiles which optimise contact and reduce friction.
  • New intake cam profiles reduce positive acceleration by 7%.
  • New profile intake valves with increased dimensions are 4% stronger but with the same weight.
  • Valve guide in new material, sintered and impregnated with lubricant to reduce wear and increase durability, HB +25% and designed with new valve/guide coupling.

2018 MV Agusta F3 updates

  • New twin intake and exhaust valve springs (F3 800 only) to reduce lateral load on the valve stem.
  • Introduction of a harmonic damper, not present on F3 models before Model Year 2017, to absorb vibration and reduce noise.
  • Completely new gear shifter, with redesigned gear dogs resulting in more fluid gear changes, avg. 45% more area between gear dogs, with lower lever effort and a reduced shifter recess angle.
  • New clutch-lever operating ratio.
  • Redesigned, high fatigue resistant starter motor, new stronger starter freewheel assembly.
  • Exhaust manifolds with new 83 x 90mm diameter catalytic converter, cell density 400 CPSI.
  • Larger-volume silencers which not only reduces over-all noise but amplifies the distinctive MV Agusta sound.

The MVICS (Motor & Vehicle Integrated Control System) has also been upgraded, with engine management algorithms having undergone extensive redesign, enhancing Ride By Wire efficiency. In particular, these improvements concern the relationship between throttle twist and power delivery, which is now more efficient and direct.

Ignition strategy and mapping have been redesigned to improve the power and torque characteristics. Traction control parameters have also been completely redesigned, giving improved performance whatever the riding conditions. There have also been improvements to EAS 2.0, the electronic up and down assisted gear shifter, which makes gear changes gentler and more precise.

The instrumentation panel, acclaimed for its design and practicality , now includes an OBD light for Euro 4 related diagnostics.

New engine protective covers have been introduced, protecting the vehicle against collisions or falls and reducing mechanical noise emissions. A thorough study of sound frequencies, aimed at eliminating or at least significantly reducing the overall vehicle noise while amplifying the characteristic sound, has contributed to the preservation and promotion of those frequencies which define the umistakeable MV Agusta “rumble”. These results show how adapting to new regulatory requirements can help improve a product and promote its distinctive characteristics.

The innovations introduced for the F3 range are shared with the Dragster RR, particularly in terms of the new fuel mapping which is specific to this model, and traction control (8 levels). The operating logic of the EAS 2.0 electronic shifter has also been upgraded.

2018 MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR

  • Exhaust manifolds with new 83 x 90mm diameter catalytic converter, cell density 400 CPSI
  • Larger-volume silencers which reduce noise in line with the standard, but magnify the distinctive sound of the MV Agusta
  • For the first time there is now the addition of the exhaust valve VALVE incorporated into the exit of the exhaust collector
  • Valve guide in new material, sintered and impregnated with lubricant to reduce wear and increase durability, HB +25% and designed with new valve/guide coupling
  • Introduction of a harmonic damper, not present on the previous Model Year, to absorb vibration and reduce noise
  • Redesigned, high fatigue resistant starter motor, new stronger starter freewheel assembly
  • Completely new balance shaft, 2.25 gear tooth pitch with 30% more engagement to reduce noise, modified profiles which optimise contact and reduce friction, optimised plain bearing clearances to reduce wear and noise

2018 MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR

  • New oil and water pump gearing, z39/45 2.25 gear tooth pitch with 30% more engagement to reduce noise, and modified profiles which optimise contact and reduce friction
  • Redesigned primary gearing, z22/41 2.25 gear tooth pitch with 30% more engagement to reduce noise, and modified profiles which optimise contact and reduce friction
  • As with the F3 range, a completely new gear shifter, with redesigned gear dogs making changes more fluid, avg. 45% more area between gear dogs, with lower lever effort and a reduced shifter recess angle
  • New engine covers have been introduced, as on the F3 range. These protect the 3-cylinder engine, reduce overall noise emissions (in line with the certification standard) and amplify the frequencies which combine to create the distinctive sound of MV Agusta sports bikes.
