Round Seven – Valencia

Season 2025 of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship wrapped up in Valencia over the weekend, with three title-deciding races crowning champions, and two JuniorGP races unfolding amidst some controversy and drama on the Mediterranean coast.

Marco Morelli (Gryd – MLav Racing) did the double in JuniorGP, while Milan Pawelec (AGR Team) won the Moto2 European Championship title after incredible last-lap drama.

In the European Talent Cup, Fernando Bujosa (AC Racing Team) won the title after Caros Cano was disqualified after some short-lived celebrations. Here to zero in no time flat… Heartbreak for one, elation for another…

Iker Garcia (GV Tamoil Racing) claimed Stock European Championship glory.

JuniorGP

Marco Morelli celebrated the double in Valencia, with the young Argentinian star wrapping up the silver medal position in the Championship as a result.

Morelli dominated the opening bout, leading from lights out to the flag. Further back, Brian Uriarte (UAX SeventyTwo Artbox Team) fended off a spirited challenge from Jesus Rios (Finetwork Mir Racing Team) to claim P2.

Australia’s Marianos Nikolis, meanwhile, finished in 23rd, mirroring his qualifying position.

The second stanza saw the same three protagonists at the front again, though this time Uriarte went with Morelli all the way and didn’t let him escape.

The pace then proved too hot to handle for Rios, with the #54 crashing out, leaving Joel Esteban (CFMoto Junior Aspar Team) to swoop in for the final podium place in both the race and the Championship.

Morelli owned the day in Valencia, but it’s Uriarte who departs as Champion.

It was a DNF for Nikolis in race two. The youngster ended a difficult season in 26th place, with two championship points on the ledger.

Moto2 European Championship

The Moto2 European Championship was decided in the most dramatic of circumstances. Unai Orradre (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro) came into the day with a 10-point advantage, and despite not being at his best, looked set to clinch the title as the last lap began.

However, a crash from race leader and teammate Alberto Ferrandez (Team Ciatti – Boscoscuro) at Turn 1 handed Milan Pawelec the lead in the race, and the Championship.

The Pole made no mistakes on the last lap and took the chequered flag first to seal the title in sensational fashion.

Xabi Zurutuza (Andifer American Racing) and Xavi Artigas (MMR) put in stellar rides to take the podium places, as Orradre came home in fifth, leaving him second in the final standings.

Australia’s Harrison Voight finished the race in 11th. Across the 2025 season, Voight didn’t match the success he achieved in previous campaigns, finishing the season 17th on the championship ladder with 26-points.

Stock European Championship Race

The final race of the day was a title decider, with just one point separating Tibor Erik Varga (IUM Motorsports S.L.) and Iker Garcia heading into the clash.

Garcia started from pole, and his launch was matched only by his teammate, Alberto Garcia (GV Tamoil Racing), while Varga immediately slipped backward. The Hungarian’s struggles continued as he lacked the pace to challenge the leaders, and his title hopes faded.

Teamwork made the dream work for Garcia: Alberto allowed his namesake and title contender Iker through, and from there, the pair controlled the race comfortably.

Nobody could challenge the duo, and Iker Garcia was ultimately crowned Champion in Valencia. Marco Tapia (FACE Racing) mounted a late charge to secure the final podium position.

Archie McDonald led the Australian Stock competitors, finishing in seventh on Sunday which saw him claim eighth place in the final championship standings.

Taiyo Aksu made his debut in the class with a highly creditable 11th-place finish, despite a small crash in qualifying. That netted the young Australian five points.

Jack Mahaffy finished 16th, while unfortunately Declan van Rosmalen recorded a DNF.

“I’m really happy with my first weekend in the Junior GP paddock. The level is super high, and it’s been a big learning weekend for me. The whole structure of the weekend, especially qualifying was new but I think we did a good job. We started well on Friday and showed our pace by being in the top three and then we worked well to make it into Q2 but unfortunately, I had a small crash which meant I couldn’t qualify where I had hoped. My ideal was so much faster but that’s racing and it’s something I can learn from and take into next year. Overall, I was happy with the progression from Thursday to Saturday and I was excited for my first race in the European Championship. Starting P17 wasn’t ideal but I knew if I stayed calm and focused that anything could happen. I made a good start and kept out of trouble and was able to bring it home P11 after fighting the whole race for the top six. We had a small issue with the brake adjuster in the final couple of laps which stopped me from attacking but that aside it was a good race. It shows what can happen with the right mindset and the right people around you. I am excited to announce my 2026 plans shortly and want to thank the ARCO University Team for these past two years. I learned a lot.”

European Talent Cup

In the European Talent Cup finale, Carlos Cano (UAX SeventyTwo Artbox) arrived with an 11-point cushion over polesitter Fernando Bujosa.

Out front, a breakaway trio quickly emerged: Bujosa, Alex Longarela (Snipers IGAX Team), and Alvaro Lucas (CFMoto Aspar Junior Team), while Cano focused on securing the top-six finish with the podium out of sight.

With the title on the line, Bujosa had no option but to win – and he led into the final corner – only for Longarela to dive underneath and edge ahead for the win, with Lucas also snatching second at the line.

Third place looked like it wouldn’t be enough for the Spaniard, however, drama came after the chequered flag.

Unfortunately for Cano, he later received a technical disqualification, with rumours suggesting a modified crankcase may have been the cause. That is only speculation, as an official statement has not yet been released.

The penalty for Cano meant that Bujosa was crowned 2025 European Talent Cup Champion.
