2025 Red Bull Rookies Cup
Round Five – Sachsenring
Race One
In challenging, rain-soaked conditions at Germany’s Sachsenring, 16-year-old Spaniard Brian Uriarte delivered a dramatic, final-corner move to snatch a sensational victory from Indonesia’s Kiandra Ramadhipa in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. It was Uriarte’s fourth win of the season, a pivotal result that significantly tightens his chase of championship leader Hakim Danish.

Uriarte, starting from third on the grid, made a lightning-fast getaway, briefly grabbing the early lead ahead of Australia’s Carter Thompson. Meanwhile, Ramadhipa—starting down in 12th—mounted a remarkable charge through the slippery field. By the end of the opening lap, the 15-year-old Indonesian had advanced to seventh and continued to cut his way forward, confidently finding traction on a gradually drying racing line.

On lap nine, Ramadhipa took command at the front and appeared destined for victory, holding firm as Uriarte worked to close the gap. The Spaniard, though visibly fighting several big slides, never lost confidence in his KTM machinery and the grip from his Pirelli tyres, and steadily hunted down the leader in the final stages.
With just one lap remaining, Uriarte was all over Ramadhipa, attempting an initial overtake into the first corner, but was expertly fended off. Determined, Uriarte then launched a daring, decisive dive on the brakes two corners from home, executing a textbook inside pass that allowed him to surge ahead and clinch the win by mere tenths.

Just behind them, France’s Guillem Planques mirrored Uriarte’s move exactly, seizing the final podium position away from Veda Pratama and securing a hard-earned third place.
Carter Thompson bagged 10 points for his sixth-place finish. The young Australian led for more than three laps before half-race distance, before the pack managed to get back on terms with both Thompson and Uriarte to propel themselves back into that mix. In the latter laps, Thompson lost touch with the leading group to take sixth behind Zen Mitani.
Uriarte’s hard-fought victory saw him reduce the points gap to the championship leader, Danish, to just 13 points. The Malaysian rider endured a difficult day, crossing the line in 10th place. Uriarte celebrated victory with a sensational wheelie after the chequered flag.
Brian Uriarte – P1
“I was happy to see the rain. I had some bad luck in Le Mans and I thought that it would be a great opportunity to show my potential in the rain. I didn’t have a great feeling; you saw it was all the time sliding. I was managing it because it was very difficult to stay on the bike. I managed the tyres and I had a bit left at the end. And I knew that winning was possible, but not easy. I saw that Ramadhipa was making huge saves on the last two laps and I just went after him. I caught him, but I didn’t want to pass him because I thought that it would be very premature to be first going onto the last lap. I just fought with him a little bit on the last lap and then down to the second to last corner, I knew that I could brake later and I did.”

Race Two
After navigating Saturday’s rain-hit opener with a cautious fourth-place ride, Indonesia’s Veda Pratama turned up the aggression in Sunday’s dry Race 2, seizing a crucial win at the Sachsenring that has reignited his Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup title hopes.
34 Zen Mitani, 17 Yaroslav Karpushin, 7 Beñat Fernandez, 32 Kiandra Ramadhipa, 50 Carter Thompson
The 16-year-old spent the majority of the 19-lap thriller embroiled in a breathtaking 15-rider fight, where the lead swapped multiple times per lap. However, as the race entered its final phase, Pratama showed his maturity and precision by breaking clear of the chaos with three laps to go, opening a decisive gap that he carried to the finish line unchallenged.
It proved to be a turning point in the championship as both points leaders, Hakim Danish and Brian Uriarte, crashed out, each failing to score. Their misfortune, combined with Pratama’s masterclass, means the Indonesians are now firmly back in contention for the 2025 Cup crown.
Zen Mitani
Behind him, Zen Mitani delivered the ride of the day, climbing from 16th on the grid to claim a brilliant second place. The 18-year-old Japanese rider picked off rivals one by one and was part of the chasing pack that produced photo-finish drama across the line.
Completing the podium was Yaroslav Karpushin, the 15-year-old Kyrgyz pole-sitter, who showed maturity to manage the hectic lead group battle and secure third, despite relentless pressure.

From second to tenth, the gaps were razor-thin, less than a second covering the group and fortunes changing at almost every turn, in what was one of the most competitive races of the season.
In the final wash-up, Carter Thompson was sixth at the flag and leaves Germany equal sixth in the championship chase.

“Round five, Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, Race 1 P6, Race 2 P6. Not the results I was aiming for, but solid points in the bag. First time racing at this circuit and I really enjoyed the track – fast, technical, and a great challenge. Plenty of positives and a few things to work on from both races. We’ll regroup, keep pushing, and come back stronger for Austria 🇦🇹 on 15th–17th August. Thanks to the Rookies Cup crew, my supporters, Pablo my mechanic, and everyone behind me. Let’s keep building.”

But up front, it was all about Pratama, whose late-race charge and cool under pressure have set the stage for a thrilling second half to the Rookies Cup season.
Veda Pratama – P1
“I wasn’t counting on winning today, no, but always, I’m confident. From the start, I tried to get to the front, but everyone was overtaking everywhere, so after the second lap, I changed, I tried to keep calm and just stay in the lead group. That worked because when I wanted to push at the end, I had some tyre left. With 3 laps to go, I pushed and I managed to get to the front. Then I got ahead and I saw on the big TV screen that some riders had crashed and I had a bit of a lead for the last lap. So then I just tried to focus ahead, keep pushing and hold the advantage.”
