Marmont King of the Cross
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jay Marmont won Australia’s richest motocross event, the BGC King of the Cross over the weekend proving once again to be the champion of Australia’s biggest and most prestigious motocross events.
Jay Marmont was in fine form in Southern Cross-Western Australia, winning 4 out of 5 motos on his way to being crowned the champion.
The victory marked Jay Marmont’s 4th win at the event.
“It’s good to be back on top of the box again.” said Marmont. “There was definitely some good competition out there but I felt good all day.
“My starts were really good. My KX450F got me the hole-shot in 4 out of 5 races.” said the reigning four time Australian MX Champion.
After spending the majority of the year riding injured, Marmont feels as though he is getting back to his usual flying speed and is ready to mix it up with the front runners at the final rounds of the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals with his win in Western Australia giving him the confidence that he is back on track.
“I got a bit of confidence today after a rough season so far and I feel like my speed is there again so I’m really looking forward to the next few rounds of the motocross Nationals and the upcoming Supercross series” concluded Marmont.
It was a double celebration for the Marmont family as Ryan Marmont was crowned Prince of the cross winning the 250F class. The race marked Ryan’s return to the track after being injured earlier this year at the Wonthaggi motocross track.
West Australian Dean Porter (Witch Cycles Suzuki/DIRT ID, Full Force Cars R US Racing)- continued his run of good form to finish 3rd overall and continues to build his reputation as a rider that can run up front on any surface, posting top results in his last two races which have been on a harder pack type surface.
Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Brad Anderson finished the day in fourth place, while West Australian Louis Calvin (Mandurah City Yamaha/Berry Sweet Farm/Great Eastern Freightlines) who has also missed the majority of the year with injury rounded out the top five.
Paul Grant won the Paul Broomfield Memorial race with Stuart McFerran second and Brendon Parnham third.
The Queen of the Cross was run in conjunction with the WAMX State Womens Round and was won by Jessica Moore, second Courtney Hirst and third Storme Green-a more detailed article of the Women’s WAMX round is also available on this website.
The KTM Kid of the Cross was held on Saturday and very closely contested-Jaydn Rykers was crowned KTM Kid of the Cross followed by Jake Pruiti for second and Connor Tierney was third.
