2026 British Superbike Championship

Round Eight – Cadwell Park

ZYN Superbike

Bradley Ray set the benchmark through the opening day and carried that speed into Omologato Superpole, securing top spot with a 1m25.361s lap. Rory Skinner was 0.396 seconds adrift in second, while championship leader Kyle Ryde completed the front row, 0.439 seconds from Ray.

Ray appeared to have the outright pace, but Cadwell Park’s three races unfolded very differently. Skinner converted his front-row start into a breakthrough Sunday victory before Ryan Vickers and Honda Racing UK swept Monday’s two races at the team’s home round.

Superbike Race One

Rory Skinner made the decisive launch in Race One, beating polesitter Bradley Ray away and establishing himself at the head of the field. Ray remained close and showed Skinner a wheel at Park on lap four, but could not make the move stick.

Ray attacked again on lap five, only for the McAMS Yamaha to become unsettled as he exited Park and pitch him out of second place. Storm Stacey crashed separately on the same lap, removing another member of the early leading group.

Ryan Vickers had already endured a dramatic opening phase. He ran across the grass at Park on lap two and rejoined in 11th, then responded by setting the race’s fastest lap at 1m25.864s. His recovery ended on lap nine when he crashed while trying to pass Joe Talbot at Park, also taking the bimota rider out. The incident subsequently earned Vickers a three-place grid penalty for Race Two.

With Ray gone, Skinner controlled the remainder of the 18-lap race and was never headed. Ryde displaced Leon Haslam from second on lap 11, but Skinner remained 2.346 seconds clear at the chequered flag to deliver the first victory for Cheshire Mouldings Yamaha. Haslam completed the podium, 0.891 seconds behind Ryde, while Scott Redding charged from tenth on the grid to fourth.

Lee Jackson produced DAO Racing’s best result of the season to that point, climbing from 12th to sixth. Jackson briefly took fifth from Jason O’Halloran with two laps remaining, only for the Australian to reclaim the position on the final lap by 0.170 seconds.

Josh Brookes finished ninth after a two-second long-lap-equivalent penalty for the contact which caused Glenn Irwin to crash; the penalty did not alter Brookes’ finishing position.

Superbike Race Two

Ryan Vickers’ fastest lap in Race One would ordinarily have placed him on pole for Monday’s 12-lap opener, but his three-place penalty sent him back to fourth. It made little difference at the start, with the Honda Racing UK rider launching into the lead and completing every lap at the head of the field.

Race One winner Rory Skinner initially held second and remained within striking distance, but his challenge ended at Charlies on lap five. That promoted Bradley Ray into second, and the polesitter immediately began cutting into Vickers’ advantage. Ray also set the fastest lap of the race, a 1m26.034s on lap five.

The gap was down to 0.201 seconds with three laps remaining and just 0.139 seconds at the end of the penultimate lap. Vickers nevertheless absorbed the pressure and produced a strong final circulation, defeating Ray by 0.282 seconds to add another victory to his recent Thruxton success.

Kyle Ryde completed the podium 2.980 seconds behind Vickers, with Leon Haslam fourth. Joe Talbot claimed his first BSB top-five result for AJN Steelstock bimota, finishing only 0.237 seconds behind Haslam and just ahead of Australian Jason O’Halloran.

Superbike Race Three

Vickers again made the launch count in the 18-lap finale, sweeping through from third on the grid to lead Ryde and Ray. Skinner moved ahead of Ray for third on lap three, but his hopes of another podium disappeared when he slid out at the Chicane on lap four.

Ray regrouped and passed Ryde for second at Mansfield on lap six. A race-fastest 1m25.877s followed one lap later as Ray began to reel in Vickers. The gap was down to 0.355 seconds by lap nine and reached just 0.106 seconds with three laps remaining.

Vickers held his nerve through the closing laps and crossed the line 0.176 seconds ahead of Ray, completing a Monday double for Honda Racing UK. Ryde was 2.937 seconds behind in third, while Joe Talbot charged from eighth on the grid to a season-best fourth. Leon Haslam and O’Halloran completed the top six.

DAO Racing’s Jackson lost tenth to Ilya Mikhalchik on the final lap and finished 11th, only 0.096 seconds behind the Ukrainian. Brookes was another 0.121 seconds back in 12th as the three riders crossed the line almost together.

Ryde’s second place and two thirds across the weekend were enough to secure the King of the Mountain award. He left Cadwell Park leading the championship on 392 points, ahead of Redding on 321, Ray on 289, Haslam on 260 and Vickers on 235.

Quattro British Supersport

Supersport Sprint

The Supersport field lost one of its principal contenders before racing began. Oli Bayliss qualified third with a 1m28.740s on his first visit to Cadwell Park, only 0.099 seconds behind Jack Kennedy, but crashed at Barn Corner during Q2.

Following initial review and treatment at the circuit medical centre, Bayliss was transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary for further investigation and scans after experiencing tenderness in his neck and back. He took no further part in the weekend.

Australian Ben Currie, returning from the injuries sustained in his heavy Oulton Park crash, started the Sprint from ninth. He completed the opening lap in seventh and was up to fifth by lap two, setting the third-fastest lap of the race at 1m29.142s. His promising return ended after four laps when a derailed chain caused extensive damage to the engine and swingarm. That fastest lap would at least place him third on the grid for Monday’s Feature race.

Harry Truelove made the best start at the front and led the opening four laps, with Stapleford passing Kennedy for second on lap four and then taking the lead on lap five. Truelove fought back to lead again on lap seven, but Stapleford responded on the following circulation.

Kennedy had dropped down the order after contact with the rear of Truelove’s Yamaha during the middle of the race, but recovered by passing Dean Harrison and then Truelove on lap nine. Stapleford was already escaping and went on to win by 1.580 seconds from Kennedy.

Supersport Feature Race

The original 16-lap Feature race was red-flagged during lap two when heavier rain arrived. A new 12-lap race was subsequently started from the original grid in damp and changeable conditions.

Oliver Barr made the best start and led Kennedy by just 0.012 seconds at the end of the opening lap, with Currie third and Stapleford fifth. Kennedy took over on lap two, while Stapleford methodically worked his way forward: fourth on lap three, third on lap four and second on lap five.

Stapleford passed Kennedy for the lead on lap six and immediately began building an advantage. The gap was only 0.179 seconds when he first went ahead, but grew to 0.618 seconds after eight laps, 1.525 seconds after nine and 3.498 seconds at the end of the penultimate lap. He ultimately crossed the line 3.402 seconds clear of Kennedy.

Barr retained third, while Dean Harrison charged through the closing stages. Harrison passed TJ Toms and then took fourth from Lucas Brown at the Mountain on the final lap. Wadsworth was eighth and Australian Jack Mahaffy climbed from 14th on the grid to ninth.

Currie ran third through the opening two laps but had selected intermediate tyres while several rivals opted for slicks. As the circuit improved, the intermediates lost performance and he slipped to 12th. Currie later acknowledged that slicks had been the faster choice, but his priority had been managing the risk while still working his way back towards full fitness.

The victory completed a perfect weekend for Stapleford and Scars Racing Ducati. It was his seventh win of the season and extended his championship advantage over Kennedy to 61 points.

Pirelli National Superstock Race One

David Allingham fired through from fourth on the grid to lead Race One, while polesitter Luke Mossey completed the opening lap in third behind Australian Billy McConnell. Mossey passed McConnell on lap two and then relieved Allingham of the lead on lap four, with McConnell following through into second.

Lewis Rollo initially settled into third ahead of Allingham. A moment for Allingham over the Mountain on lap six allowed Scott Swann to move ahead, and Swann then passed Rollo for third on lap eight. His charge ended at Hall Bends on the following lap, however, bringing out the Safety Car. Swann had nevertheless recorded the race’s fastest lap at 1m27.613s.

Racing resumed with three laps remaining and Mossey immediately came under pressure from McConnell. Mossey maintained a slender advantage, while Rollo’s hopes of completing the podium ended when he crashed at the bottom of the Mountain on the penultimate lap.

Pirelli National Superstock Race Two

Scott Swann started Race Two from pole after setting the fastest lap on Sunday, but Allingham produced another excellent launch from the second row and completed the opening lap in second. Mossey held third ahead of McConnell and Owens.

Allingham passed Swann for the lead on lap three. Spots of rain brought out the rain flags on lap five and condensed the leading group, with Mossey taking second from Swann and McConnell following into third on lap seven.

Conditions remained treacherous for several laps, and McConnell survived a substantial moment on the approach to the Hairpin without losing control of the BMW. The rain flags were withdrawn shortly afterwards and Allingham began to establish a small advantage.

A backmarker brought the five leaders together again on the final lap. Allingham held on by only 0.166 seconds from Mossey, with McConnell 0.464 seconds from the winner after setting the race’s fastest lap at 1m27.742s. Swann was just 0.181 seconds behind McConnell, while fifth-placed Owens completed the five-rider group only 0.931 seconds from victory.

McConnell’s third place completed a double-podium weekend for C&L Fairburn Properties. Allingham’s eighth victory of the season lifted him to 282 points, extending his championship lead over Mossey to 42.

Pirelli British Sportbike

Damp patches made the opening lap of the British Sportbike race particularly difficult. Cameron Dawson made the holeshot from polesitter Zak Shelton, but Carl Harris attacked both riders before the lap was complete and came through from sixth on the grid to lead.

What followed was a five-way contest in which the lead changed hands five times. Harris led the opening five laps before Shelton took over on lap six. Richard Cooper headed the field on laps seven and eight, Harris returned to the front for laps nine and ten, and Shelton fought back to lead as the riders began the final lap.

Harris responded on the last circulation, reclaiming first place and setting the race’s fastest lap at 1m33.901s. Asher Durham also picked off Cooper and Shelton during the final-lap reshuffle to snatch second.

Harris secured his first championship victory by 0.466 seconds from Durham. Cooper was another 0.150 seconds behind in third, with Shelton fourth and championship leader Alfie Davidson fifth. The first five riders were covered by only 1.216 seconds.

Australian Brodie Gawith finished 14th, just 0.041 seconds behind Ted Wilkinson. Davidson left Cadwell Park on 244 points, but Durham’s second place reduced the championship margin to 12.
