Josh Hansen crowned Super X champion in a mud soaked Brisbane finale
Josh Hansen has taken out the 2010 Monster Energy Super X Championship in treacherous racing conditions at QSAC Stadium in Brisbane tonight with Matt Moss claiming the overall Lites Championship after a very close battle with PJ Larsen.
Heavy rain during the day completely soaked the track creating extraordinary racing conditions for the riders, which forced the organisers to cancel practice and qualifying.
Josh Hansen got out to an early lead in the first of the three, six lappers in the Triple Challenge final and held on for the win. Luke Davis was right behind Hansen and almost overtook him, but went down trying to make the pass which allowed Jay Marmont to overtake him and finish second with Tye Simmonds third.
Simmonds claimed the second holeshot of the night, but Hansen passed him for another early lead. Billy Mackenzie then passed Hansen when he chose the wrong line and got stuck behind another rider caught up in the thick mud. Mackenzie won the moto with Simmonds second and Hansen third.
The final moto of the series went to Hansen with Mackenzie second and Simmonds third.
Hansen claimed the overall championship with Jay Marmont second and Jake Moss holding on for third after a tough night of racing.
Josh Hansen (USA)
“I am really stoked Monster brought me out here for this series and I really want to thank my mechanic Eric Johnson for being with me the whole time. Our goal was to win and that’s what we did so it’s going to be good returning home to the Kawasaki team in the US with this result. I have loved my time here in Australia and can’t wait to come back again next year.”
Jay Marmont (AUS)
“It was really tough conditions out there tonight. I got some good starts but couldn’t make it happen and just missed out on the podium. I am pumped to get second overall in the championship though.”
Jake Moss (AUS)
“Tonight really didn’t go my way. I crashed in the first race and only just made it back to the start gate in time for the second race and crashed in that too. I was really stressing about losing my overall podium, but I managed to do well in the final race and beat Tye [Simmonds] to maintain my podium, so that’s a big weight off my shoulders.”
The Lites championship went right down to the wire with Matt Moss leading America’s PJ Larsen by only five points going into the round.
In the first five lapper Moss and Larsen both went down in the start straight. Larsen was unable to rejoin the race with a huge fall and Moss was unable to restart his bike for most of the race, only rejoining on the last lap. UK’s Steven Clarke came in first with Lawson Bopping second and Joel Roelants third.
In the second moto Kade Mosig had his first win of the series with Larsen second and Clarke third. Moss crashed in the first lap and finished tenth meaning Moss and Larsen went into the final race tied on 290 points.
Steven Clarke was victor in the final moto for the Lites, but all eyes were on Moss and Larsen in second and third respectively. Larsen was unable to catch Moss who claimed the Lites championship for the third year in a row. Ryan Marmont finished third overall for his final year in the Lites championship.
Matt Moss (AUS)
“That was really hard out there tonight, but I am so stoked right now. Rockstar Motul Suzuki we got the hat trick!”
PJ Larsen (USA)
“It was a really tough night, but I have had a great time racing in the series. I went down pretty hard in the first moto and was worried I broke my wrist after someone ran over it, but managed to come back and race well in the other two. It’s disappointing to come so close to the championship. It was a very close battle.”
Ryan Marmont (AUS)
“It has been a bit of an up down series for me, but I put in some solid performances and I am stoked to get third overall.”
Jacob Wright won the final round of the Michelin Development Series preventing Dylan Long from finishing with a perfect season. Long finished second with Jackson Richardson third.
Dylan Long claimed the overall series honours. Jacob Wright finished second overall and Jake Emanuelli was third.

Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen is the 2010 Monster Energy SuperX Champion
Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki rider Josh Hansen has won the 2010 Monster Energy SuperX Championship by 59 points after winning the final round of the series at a drenched QSAC Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday 4th December.
In horrendous conditions, Hansen did what he had to do to wrap up the series before he heads home to the USA to compete in the 2011 AMA SX Championship, beginning early next month.
On a sloppy Brisbane track, where the rider’s main focus was staying upright, Hansen got off to a good start, winning his heat race. He kept the momentum going into the Triple Challenge final races, going 1-3-1 with hole-shots in both the first and third motos, to win the round and the Championship.
A happy Josh Hansen says, “I’m stoked! It’s sick. Australia has been good. To be able to have Kawasaki and Monster Energy back me so I can be here has been awesome. I’m pumped to win, it’s sad that I’ve got to leave.”
“If everything goes to plan, I’ll be back next year.”
The Monster Energy SuperX Championship win has provided Hansen with a wealth of practise and race time as he heads into the 2011 AMA SX season. Hansen steps off the KX450F that he successfully campaigned in Australia to once again ride a Pro Circuit Kawasaki KX250F under the guidance of Mitch Payton in 2011.
Kawasaki Australia is very grateful for the Championship win that Hansen has given the manufacturer in Australia in 2010, the 2nd consecutive win for Kawasaki in the SuperX series. Josh Hansen has been a pleasure to deal with during his time in Australia and Kawasaki wishes him nothing but success throughout the 2011 AMA season.

Marmont holds onto his number two plate for another season after finishing second overall in the 2010 Super X Championship
CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont locked down second place in the championship after a rain soaked mud bath at the seventh and final round of the 2010 Monster Energy Super X Championship held at Brisbane’s QSAC Stadium on Saturday Night.
Marmont entered the final round with a handy points buffer over third place in the Pro Open class and only needed an intelligent nights’ racing to bring home the runner up position and be the first Australian rider in the overall standings.
Contesting the Triple Challenge format with a huge 75points available, the championship win was still up for grabs, although unlikely, as the points leader US Import Josh Hansen, had plenty of points up his sleeve. For Marmont it was all about consolidating his second place in what were extremely treacherous conditions.
Marmont finished the night with 2-6-4 moto scores for fourth overall, after slogging it out in the deep, sticky mud that made just circulating the track an achievement.
Throughout the seven round championship, Marmont never finished any round outside the top five at any round and cemented his position as Australia’s most consistent racer.
“It was tough out there tonight and trying to race was almost out of the question with the track the way it was. My whole plan was to keep the bike on two wheels and stay away from all the water and mud that can cause a mechanical problem. It wasn’t pretty but we did exactly what we needed to do,” Marmont says with mud in his eye.
Reflecting on the 2010 championship, the third year running Marmont and his CDR Rockstar Yamaha team have landed on the podium, Marmont had this to say.
“To finish as the first Australian rider and second in the series is something I am proud off. Throughout the championship, there were plenty of US riders that came in and out of the series but I was able to stay consistent and keep racking up points at every round.”
“It’s been a long year with the way our season is structured at the moment so it is tough to back up every week over such a long period of time. I’m going to get away from bikes for a few weeks now and try and recharge for next year. I have never really taken a break from racing in my career so I’m looking forward to four to six weeks off the bike and come back in 2011 stronger than ever.”
“But I also must thank everyone at the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team. They are the best team in the pits and the people that work at CDR have given me a great bike and amazing support again in 2010. My results are a reflection of the work everyone on the team puts in,” Marmont finishes.
Team owner of CDR Rockstar Yamaha, Craig Dack was also full of praise of Marmont and his team after a difficult championship.
“It’s been a hectic championship with seven rounds in eight weeks including two rounds in New Zealand and one in Tasmania. To have Jay consistently up the front has been a credit to him and his work ethic and also to that of Jason, Todd, Gary and Shawn who work tirelessly to prepare bikes and have everything in place.”
“As a team owner I would love to win every race but considering the level of competition in this championship and the US talent that has competed at these events, Jay’s second place is a very good result. He continues to battle for every point and every position on the track and it has added up to another successful championship for Jay and CDR Rockstar Yamaha,” Dack concluded.
The Brisbane round concluded the 2010 race calendar for Jay Marmont and his CDR Rockstar Yamaha Team. They can add this second place finish to the 2010 MX National crown Jay and the team won in July and look back at 2010 as another successful year for Australia’s longest running professional motocross team.
— JDR Motorex KTM Report
JDR Motorex KTM has won the Teams title in the Lites category of the 2010 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, after the series concluded at Brisbane’s QSAC Stadium on Saturday 4 December.
Lites team riders PJ Larsen and Ryan Marmont finished second and third respectively in the series, Larsen missing out on the riders championship by just two points after it went down to the wire in Brisbane.
Contested in treacherous muddy conditions, American Larsen was forced out of final number one of three on the night when he crashed at the start of the race, suffering an injury to his wrist in the process.
The 20-year-old current Australian Pro Lites MX Nationals Champion bounced back to take second in final two, setting up an all-out battle for the title as he and arch-rival Matt Moss entered final number three tied on points.
Larsen and Moss battled hard in the last six-lap final of the night, however it was Moss who managed to cross the line in second ahead of third placed Larsen, forcing him to settle for the runner-up position in the series and fifth overall on the night.
“It was a tough night,” Larsen reflected. “After my crash in the first final I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to finish the night out, but I went and saw RACESAFE and they said we should be okay. I was tied going into the final race with Matt Moss but he ended up getting it, so congratulations to him. It was a good night to come out after the complications we had to finish second overall and I really have to thank JDR Motorex KTM for all their support while I’ve been out here in Australia.”
Teammate Ryan Marmont finished seventh in Brisbane, sealing third in the series to assist in JDR Motorex KTM’s Teams championship victory. Marmont scored 4-9-10 results in Brisbane.
“What a tough night – the track was really, really difficult,” Marmont said. “Some sections of the track wore down to the wood floorboards beneath the dirt and they were like ice. I got third overall in the championship so I’m stoked with that – happy to put the JDR Motorex KTM up on the podium.”
KTM also scored runner-up in the Manufacturers point standings in the Lites category for 2010 with a host of riders impressing aboard the 2011 model KTM 250 SX-F.
The Open category saw 18-year-old wonder kid Tye Simmonds race to his second podium of the season, taking 3-2-7 results to clinch fourth in the championship aboard the revolutionary 2011 model 350 SX-F before he now focuses on a career in the United States.
“Coming into tonight I knew it was going to be tough with the rain, so we just had to keep it fun and stay upright,” Simmonds explained. “I finished fourth in the championship, which is pretty good after an up and down year. We head to the States on Wednesday, look for bigger and better things over there so I can’t wait to get testing.”
Simmonds’ result boosted KTM to the Manufacturers title in the Open class, while JDR finished third in the Teams title for the season thanks to Simmonds and American Mike Alessi – who finished seventh in the Open points despite returning to the U.S. before Brisbane.
JDR Motorex KTM team manager Jay Rynenberg was proud of the team’s results during the 2010 season, thankful for KTM’s factory support throughout the year and again for next season.
“Both of our guys finished on the podium overall in the Lites and that’s a good outcome,” Rynenberg said. “We’re all here to win and that’s what we want to do, but coming second and third was a good result for the riders and also for KTM – it shows just how good the 2011 models are. Losing the title in the last moto of a mud race is tough, but we will keep our chins up high and hopefully come back stringer to win next year.
“Tye started out the season slow, but his true ability came out in the final rounds with a couple of podium results and he again put in a good performance in Brisbane,” he continued. “His attitude toward racing has improved over the past month or so, he’s having a lot more fun and it shows.”
Also on hand in Brisbane was JDR Motorsports KTM’s new U.S. team manager Nathan Ramsey, the ex-professional racer working with the team at a race meeting for the first time in preparation for next month’s AMA Supercross season opener in California.
“My first experience with the JDR team at an event was good,” Ramsey said. “They surround themselves with good people who are willing to work hard and that’s cool. It’s all about putting in 100 percent effort and at the end of the day you can walk away proud knowing that you did your best. I’m happy to be a part of JDR Motorsports and can’t wait to get things rolling in the U.S.”

Mosig takes Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racing to the podium at Super X finale
Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racings Kade Mosig has ended the 2010 Super X season on a high, finishing second in the Lites class at Brisbane’s rain soaked QSAC Stadium last night.
While many struggled on the extremely boggy track, Mosig revelled in the mud, winning his heat race to take number one gate pick for the three, 5-lap races that made up the Triple Challenge final.
Mosig, who finished the first race seventh, holeshot the second race to lead from start to finish. Third place in the final race secured the Victorian second step on the dais.
“It was great to finally put together a podium result,” Mosig said.
“This has been a really tough season, and I am stoked to be able to repay the Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racing team with a podium.
“The conditions were absolutely crazy and just to stay upright was an achievement in itself,” he concluded.
In the Open class Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racings Dan Reardon was joined by Michael Phillips who stood in for the injured Todd Waters.
Reardon finished fifth overall and secured fifth in the championship with three solid race results. The Queenslander finished the three races sixth, fourth and third respectively.
“That was tough,” Reardon admitted. “The track was so wet it was nearly impossible to ride.
“I really wanted to finish with a good result tonight but with the conditions the way they were I couldn’t push as hard as I would have liked.
“All my effort went into staying upright and finishing each race,” Reardon said.
Michael Phillips put his motocross background to good use and finished 13th overall. The New Zealand rider who normally contests the Lites class finished the three Open races 13th, 13th and 14th respectively.
The Cougar Bourbon Honda Thor Racing Team will now enjoy a short a break before they commence testing for the 2011 MX Nationals series in the New Year.
