M2R X5 launches with next-generation X-HALO PLUS protection

The all-new M2R X5 brings race-developed protection, two lightweight shell choices and serious ventilation to the dirt.

M2R X5 ushers in a new generation of off-road helmets

Nearly 30 years of competition, development and feedback from some of Australia’s best off-road racers have gone into the all-new M2R X5 helmet.

Designed as M2R’s new pro-level motocross and off-road offering, the X5 brings together a choice of fibreglass-composite or carbon-composite shells, the latest X-HALO PLUS impact-management system, a thoroughly revised interior and a high-flow ventilation layout developed with Australian riding conditions firmly in mind.

M2R says thousands of hours were spent testing, refining and racing the X5, with input from ProMX champions helping shape its fit, comfort and performance. The result is a distinctly Australian helmet built for everyone from racers chasing tenths to trail riders facing long, hot days in the dirt.

Australian motocross racers Todd Waters and Brett Metcalfe contributed directly to X5 development, with extensive work focused on fit, comfort, ventilation, peak flexibility and roost protection.

Seven X-HALO PLUS shields

At the heart of the X5 is the new seven-piece X-HALO PLUS system. The shields form an additional layer within the helmet and are designed to provide extra low-speed impact and rotational-impact management.

M2R says the material used in each shield changes at a molecular level under impact. Its molecules lock together as energy is applied, helping absorb and dissipate that energy.

Seven X-HALO PLUS shields add a fourth protective layer inside the X5, designed to provide additional low-speed impact and rotational-impact management by absorbing and dissipating energy.

Working with the shell and channelled four-piece EPS structure, X-HALO PLUS effectively adds a fourth protective layer to the X5. It is also shaped to conform to the rider’s head, helping the helmet maintain a stable, comfortably secure fit.

The M2R X5 is certified to the current ECE 22.06 standard, with M2R stating that the helmet’s protective performance goes beyond the certification requirements.

The X5’s Immersive Fit combines a 3D-shaped comfort liner and multi-density foam with crown and cheek pads designed to avoid concentrated pressure points, while the X-HALO PLUS shields contour around the head to support a stable fit.

Two lightweight shell constructions

The X5 range is offered in two shell constructions, allowing riders to choose between MIT PRO and CARBON MIT PRO versions.

MIT PRO uses a laminated synthetic-fibre-reinforced fibreglass shell, with strategically positioned synthetic panels adding reinforcement where it is most beneficial.

CARBON MIT PRO steps up to an aramid-reinforced carbon-composite shell. Aramid panels are positioned beneath the carbon layers to add strength and protection while retaining the low weight expected of a premium carbon helmet.

The MIT PRO X5 uses a laminated synthetic-fibre-reinforced fibreglass shell, with strategically positioned reinforcement panels and controlled flexibility intended to help absorb and dissipate impact energy.

Both constructions combine strength with controlled flexibility, allowing the shell to help absorb and dissipate impact energy without burdening the rider with unnecessary weight. M2R has not chased a one-size-fits-all shell at the expense of fit, either, developing the X5 to suit Australian riders and conditions.

A secure fit without the pressure points

Protection starts with correct fit, and the X5’s interior has been extensively shaped with that in mind. A three-dimensional comfort liner and multi-density internal foam provide support and hold, while the crown liner and cheek pads have been designed to avoid concentrated pressure points.

The X5 also incorporates M2R’s ESRS Emergency Safety Removal System, which allows first responders to remove the cheek pads more easily. It is also compatible with the EJECT helmet-removal system used by many motorsport medical crews.

As with any helmet, buyers should try the X5 on and confirm a properly snug, stable fit before riding. M2R offers sizes from Extra Small through to 2 Extra Large, while its online helmet fitting guide provides a useful starting point before visiting a dealer.

Eleven inlet vents, seven exhausts and a channelled four-piece EPS system manage airflow through the M2R X5, while the peak helps direct cooling air into the helmet.

Built to breathe when the pace rises

Keeping a motocross helmet cool is no small challenge, particularly through an Australian summer. The X5 uses 11 inlet vents and seven exhaust vents to keep air moving through the helmet, with the peak also shaped to help capture and direct airflow towards the intake system.

Inside, channels through the four-piece EPS structure draw cooler air across the head and provide a path for accumulated heat to escape through the rear exhausts. The system is designed to work at speed, helping reduce heat build-up whether the rider is circulating a motocross track or picking through a demanding enduro loop.

Seven launch finishes and two shell choices

The M2R X5 range launches in seven finishes: Matt Black, Fury PC-1, Fury PC-2, Fury PC-5F, Forged Carbon Fury PC-5F, Carbon Gloss and Lusk Replica PC-2.

The Forged Carbon Fury and Carbon Gloss models showcase the CARBON MIT PRO construction, while the broader range gives riders plenty of choice between restrained finishes, vivid race graphics and the Lusk replica design.

Pricing starts at $549.95, with the final price varying by shell construction and finish. Availability may also vary by colour and size.

For full technical details, visit the M2R X5 information page. Riders can view the complete X5 helmet range online or use M2R’s dealer locator to find their nearest stockist and arrange a fitting.
