SIDI Taurus GTX Review
Adventure Touring Boots
SIDI positions the Taurus GTX as a premium adventure-touring boot inspired by the brand’s original motocross line, pairing a compact, lightweight design with Gore-Tex waterproofing, dual NUUN 001M dials, a Materiis sole, flexible ankle support and replaceable parts for long-distance touring and off-road use. The SIDI Taurus GTX retails for $899.95 and is available in Deep Forest, Sand-Black and Black, in sizes 39 to 50.

The SIDI Taurus GTX is the latest premium adventure-touring boot from the Italian brand, drawing on SIDI’s original motocross lineage while aiming to bridge the gap between all-day comfort and genuine off-road capability.
How the SIDI Taurus GTX handled a very wet 1200 km opening day

My first day in the Taurus GTX could hardly have been a sterner test of its waterproofing credentials. It involved a thoroughly soaked 1200-kilometre haul from Eildon to Bright, then dirt from Omeo through to Khancoban, before more heavy rain on the Alpine Way past Tom Groggin, around Mount Kosciuszko and on to Jindabyne as I made my way to Sydney Motorsport Park. In conditions that would have had lesser boots waving the white flag, the Taurus GTX passed the water-ingress test with flying colours.
The Dainese Hekla kit I was debuting on the same trip also lived up to its waterproofing claims. Wearing the right gear makes a very big difference on a trip like that.
The NUUN 001M dial system allows quick, one-handed adjustment on the fly. I will admit I was initially a little sceptical of the setup, but that scepticism faded quickly once I started using it in the real world. It is fast, simple and easy to fine-tune. Whether I remain quite so enthusiastic when it is clogged with half the Victorian High Country remains to be seen, but first impressions are very positive.

SIDI says the Materiis sole is designed to deliver grip and comfort, and based on early evidence, there is something to that. I managed to stay upright despite one fused ankle and another essentially running on optimism alone while awaiting replacement, in conditions that were, at times, less than ideal. That counts as a solid endorsement in my book.

What also impressed was the Taurus GTX’s versatility. I was travelling to a Harley-Davidson launch on an Africa Twin, with most of my luggage capacity already swallowed by the tools of the trade, camera gear, laptop and the usual press-launch clutter, so taking a second pair of boots was not an option. That meant the Taurus GTX had to do double duty, and it handled that brief without complaint.

The Taurus GTX may not have been designed with a Harley launch front of mind, but it proved flexible enough to cope with a wide variety of footpeg positions across everything from the new CVO Road Glide ST and Sportster through to the Low Rider S. Hustling a CVO Road Glide ST around a damp Sydney Motorsport Park is not exactly the use case SIDI’s engineers likely had pinned to the workshop wall, but the Taurus GTX remained comfortable all day, both on the bike and during the inevitable standing around between photo runs and rider swaps. Once the Harley duties were done, it was straight back onto the Africa Twin for the run home to Eildon, which rather underlined the Taurus GTX’s broad brief.
That, perhaps, is the Taurus GTX’s biggest strength. It feels like a boot with enough support and weather protection for proper adventure-touring duties, but without the sort of clunky, overbuilt feel that can make some ADV boots a chore once you are off the bike. It feels compact, easy to live with and, crucially, comfortable enough that you do not spend the day thinking about your feet — which is usually the highest compliment a boot can earn.

The SIDI Taurus GTX is available for $899.95 in Deep Forest, Sand-Black and Black, in sizes 39 to 50. Try a pair on at your local AMX Superstore or preferred motorcycle dealer. SIDI is distributed in Australia by McLeod Accessories.
