Beach completes perfect Laguna Seca double

Beach repeated the exercise on Sunday, again moving to the front during the opening lap and then leading all 20 circuits.

Jacobsen initially ran second, ahead of polesitter Petersen and Kelly. Petersen moved past Jacobsen on lap seven and tried to limit Beach’s escape, but the Yamaha rider remained precise and maintained a margin of more than three seconds through the second half of the race.

Kelly remained in contact with the battle and overtook Jacobsen on lap 15. He then closed to within 0.195 seconds of Petersen by the chequered flag, but the South African held on to complete a pair of runner-up finishes.

Beach’s final advantage was 3.437 seconds, completing a weekend in which he was first across the line at the end of all 40 racing laps. The Sunday victory was his fifth in the Superbike category.

Jacobsen came home fourth, with Bobby Fong fifth ahead of Loris Baz, Benjamin Smith, Jayson Uribe, Hayden Gillim and Brandon Paasch.

The championship took a turn when Mathew Scholtz retired on lap 12. Scholtz had advanced from tenth to seventh and remained close enough to protect his points lead, but his non-finish opened the door for Kelly to take command of the standings.

Campbell completed a perfect Superbike Cup weekend in 11th overall. Andrew Lee recovered from Saturday’s double crash to finish second in the Cup and 13th overall, with Lewis third in the class.

Kelly takes Superbike lead as Beach closes rapidly

Sean Dylan Kelly now leads the Quad Lock Superbike Championship on 172 points, with Beach’s maximum 50-point weekend lifting him to second on 161.

Scholtz is only three points further back on 158, meaning just 14 points cover the leading three riders at the halfway point of the season. Bobby Fong sits fourth on 126, with Cameron Petersen’s pair of second places moving him to 116.

In Superbike Cup, Andrew Lee retains a commanding lead on 215 points despite his difficult Saturday. Carl Soltisz is second on 140, but Campbell’s Laguna double has brought him to 135 and within five points of the runner-up position. Danilo Lewis remains fourth on 119.

Binder edges Herrin for Supersport pole

Darryn Binder began the weekend by putting the Celtic/Economy Lube + Tire/Warhorse Ducati Panigale V2 on pole with a 1m26.585.

Josh Herrin was only 0.080 seconds slower on the Rahal Ducati Moto Panigale V2, while Kayla Yaakov completed an all-Ducati front row with a 1m26.968.

That set up another direct confrontation between championship leader Binder and Herrin, who had reduced the South African’s advantage with a double victory at The Ridge.

Binder controls Race One from the front

Binder made one of his best starts of the season and led through the opening corner, removing the need to fight his way back past Herrin during the early laps.

Herrin stayed with the South African as the two Ducatis cleared away from the field. Binder remained composed under pressure and consistently circulated in the low 1m27s, with his 1m27.072 standing as the quickest lap of the race.

The gap remained small until the closing six laps, when Herrin could no longer match Binder’s rhythm. Binder opened the advantage to 2.394 seconds by the flag and claimed his fifth victory of the season.

Behind them, Tyler Scott initially held third on the M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R750 before running wide at the Andretti Hairpin. That allowed Yaakov through, although the teenager then had four-time Superbike champion Josh Hayes applying pressure from behind.

Hayes briefly took the final podium position, but Yaakov responded into Turn One and secured third place, 11.348 seconds behind Binder. Hayes finished fourth, ahead of Brenden Ketelsen and Alessandro Di Mario.

Scott’s podium challenge ended with a crash at Turn Two. He was able to rejoin and finish 12th, but lost substantial ground to Yaakov in the championship.

The result stretched Binder’s title advantage over Herrin from 24 to 29 points heading into Sunday.

Herrin capitalises as Binder crashes from the lead fight

Herrin changed his approach for Sunday’s race and attacked Binder from the outset. The Ducati pair traded positions during a combative opening lap before Binder regained control, but Herrin remained close enough to apply constant pressure.

The first major retirement came when Tyler Scott made an early visit to pit lane. Scott continued after the stop, but his race eventually ended after 16 laps.

Kayla Yaakov had been disputing third with Josh Hayes when she low-sided at the Andretti Hairpin on lap four. Yaakov’s left hand was caught beneath the handlebar as the Ducati slid and she was unable to continue.

At the front, Herrin made his move through Turn Five during the middle phase of the race. Binder immediately tried to retaliate at the Corkscrew, but carried too much speed into the left-hander and ran through the gravel.

Binder remained upright through that excursion, only to crash at Turn Two a few corners later. He remounted the damaged Panigale V2 and pushed on to salvage 11th place and five championship points.

Herrin was left with a comfortable lead over Hayes. He had almost eight seconds in hand entering the last lap and eased his pace on the run home, reducing the official winning margin to 4.575 seconds.

Hayes took his best result of the season in second, while Alessandro Di Mario secured his first career Supersport podium in third. Ketelsen was fourth, only 0.411 seconds ahead of Dominic Doyle, with Blake Davis sixth.

Binder’s Supersport lead cut to nine points

Binder’s five-point recovery limited the championship damage, but Herrin’s victory reduced the gap from 29 points to nine.

Binder heads to the next round with 223 points, while Herrin is now on 214 and has again brought the title fight within a single-race swing.

Yaakov retains third on 142 despite her Sunday non-finish, but Tyler Scott is only two points behind on 140. Blake Davis sits fifth on 113, one point ahead of Josh Hayes, while Di Mario’s maiden podium has moved him to 87 points.

BPR Yamaha locks out Hooligan front row

The Super Hooligan weekend began dramatically when Josh Herrin’s OrangeCat Racing Lightfighter V3-RH suffered a thermal incident during Friday practice near the top of the Corkscrew.

Herrin stopped safely and MotoAmerica crews quickly extinguished the fire. The OrangeCat team returned both Herrin and Kaileb De Keyrel to the circuit during the following sessions, but ultimately withdrew its electric machines from the races while the incident was investigated.

Bryce Kornbau’s Friday time of 1m28.041 remained good enough for pole aboard the BPR Racing Yamaha MT-09 SP. Team-mate Andy DiBrino qualified second, 0.421 seconds behind, with Corey Alexander improving during Q2 to put the ARCH 2s-R third.

Championship leader Gus Rodio qualified fourth on the Ducati Streetfighter V2, ahead of team-mate Ben Gloddy and James Rispoli’s Harley-Davidson Pan America.

Kornbau beats DiBrino by a tenth in Race One

DiBrino made the best start and led a crowded field through the opening corners, with Rispoli, Kornbau, Alexander and Rodio fighting three and four abreast behind him.

Rispoli attacked DiBrino on the opening lap but ran wide as the field approached the Corkscrew, allowing the BPR Yamaha riders to regroup. Rispoli remained part of the lead fight until he low-sided at Turn 11 and forced Alexander to take evasive action.

Rispoli remounted and continued, eventually finishing 13th, but the incident allowed DiBrino and Kornbau to break away. Kornbau moved into the lead during the second half of the race and held his team-mate behind him to the flag.

Only 0.103 seconds separated the two Yamahas, with Kornbau collecting his first victory of the season. Alexander recovered from the Rispoli incident to finish third, 3.645 seconds behind, and extended his podium streak.

Rodio was fourth ahead of Ben Gloddy, Cory West and Jake Lewis.

The victory moved Kornbau level with DiBrino for second in the championship, eight points behind Rodio going into Sunday.

DiBrino reverses Yamaha order and takes points lead

DiBrino made another strong launch in Race Two, but this time refused to surrender the lead. He headed Kornbau and Alexander throughout the eight-lap contest, with all three covered by less than a second at the finish.

Kornbau repeatedly showed his front wheel under his team-mate but could not complete a pass without compromising his line. Although Kornbau recorded the fastest lap with a 1m28.245, DiBrino’s consistency and defensive placement kept him in front.

DiBrino won by 0.119 seconds, almost exactly reversing Saturday’s result. Alexander was only 0.887 seconds behind the winner in third and completed a fourth consecutive podium for ARCH Motorcycle Racing.

Rispoli bounced back from his Saturday crash to finish fourth, 2.802 seconds from the victory. Rodio followed only 0.266 seconds later in fifth, with the leading five riders covered by just over three seconds.

Jake Lewis was sixth, ahead of Robertino Pietri, Cory West and Ben Gloddy.

Six points cover leading three Hooligan contenders

DiBrino’s 2-1 weekend has lifted him into the Mission Super Hooligan championship lead on 123 points.

Kornbau sits second on 118, while former leader Rodio is only one point further back on 117. The championship’s leading three are therefore separated by just six points.

Rispoli remains in contention on 104 despite his Race One crash, while Alexander’s four-race podium sequence has brought him to fifth on 86, only two points behind Robertino Pietri.

The Super Hooligan field returns at Mid-Ohio from July 31 to August 2.
