Phillip Island upgraded to become more fan and weather friendly
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation today announced significant improvements to facilities at the 2011 IVECO Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in response to fan feedback and the inclement weather experienced at Phillip Island in 2010.
A spate of new projects have been undertaken to ensure that no matter what the weather, fans are guaranteed to enjoy their MotoGP experience.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott, declared that although the MotoGP has never been for the faint of heart, they are always working to improve the experience.
“Following on from adverse conditions at last year’s race, we have worked hard to identify problem areas and improve facilities to minimise the weather’s impact on patron comfort,” he said.
“Patrons felt the effects of the wild weather last year, both from above and underfoot, so we have increased weather shelters, improved drainage and introduced all-weather pathways and bus shuttles.”
Facility upgrades for the 2011 IVECO Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix include:
– Free weather shelters for General Admission and Grandstand patrons, located at Gardner Village (20x45m), Lukey Heights and Siberia.
– Free bus shuttle for grandstand patrons, with 4 buses on a continuous loop service around the outfield of the circuit.
– Asphalt and gravel roadways and ground protection in critical pedestrian thoroughfares including Gardner Village, Highside campground and public catering and merchandise areas.
– Motorcycle Clubs structure upgrade to include better access and improved drainage.
The recent improvements are sure to please this year’s fans and provide them with a better MotoGP experience.
