Victorian Junior MX Champs run and won at Rosebud
The Victorian Junior MX Titles are done and dusted for another year after the running of the final round at Rosebud on the weekend.
The Rosebud Motorcycle Club, as always, provided an excellent weekend with a track much different than competitors are accustomed to at other venues. This helps to make the series complete by giving riders an opportunity to prove their skills over a variety of surfaces with the end result being that of the true champions.
Being the final round the racing was always going to be intense and some of the on-track battles were fierce, providing not only great action for spectators, but nail biting moments for the families and riders involved also.
Some of the points leaders opted for a cautious approach, while some did not, other riders stood up to the challenge and gave an all out assault in the hope of gaining even one more position.
No matter how you looked at it, the racing was excellent.
From an overall points perspective there were a number of stand outs.
Jesse McNally managed to secure his third consecutive #1 plate in the A-Grade 65cc class after an injury scare between rounds two and three; a great effort and a record that may stand for a very long time to come.
Dylan Long secured the #1 plate in both the A-Grade 85BW/150F and A-Grade 125/150 classes, while Nathan Trigg also took the win in both his classes of B-Grade 250F and B-Grade 85BW/150F. Nick Lloyd took an amazing clean sweep winning every race of the C-Grade 125/150cc class and Matthew Hopkins-Talty took the A-Grade 85cc 9-U12 #1 plate in a class where first and third were separated by only five points.
One of the closest and most exciting battles of the series was the A-Grade 250F class, coming down to the last race with Tasmania’s Matt Phillips taking the honours over Dion Brillanti. Had the result been reversed in the final race, the boys would have finished on equal points and a mad scramble to work out the overall winner would have taken place.
After finishing three points apart after round one, then one point apart after round two, and with Kale Makeham throwing himself in the mix only two points further back, Round 3 was going to be an absolute cracker. With some great racing over the weekend, the final places remained the same with Matt finishing first, Dion in second and Kale in third. Definitely three riders to watch out for in the future.
Overall it was a great weekend to finish off a great series. Motorcycling Victoria extends its congratulations to all riders and their families who took part and a big thank you to all clubs, volunteers, officials and everyone else that made it possible.
The next major event for the juniors is the Australian Junior Motocross Championships to be held at Victoria’s Maffra-Sale Motorcycle Club, located at Newry, which takes place in late September. So everyone’s attention now turns to preparations for that event, and we wish all riders who are participating the very best of luck.
