Woods wins Vic MX Series opener in Shepparton after Mosig stumbles
Lewis Woods from the Insanity Thor Honda SMART Racing Team has taken out the Open Class at the first round of the 2010 Peter Stevens Motorcycles Victorian Motocross Championships in Shepparton.
Woods capitalised on a first corner accident in the second moto, an accident that effectively ended Kade Mosig’s race, taking out the race which was enough to put him ahead of Mosig at the end of the day’s racing.
Mosig was left to rue the accident, after dominating wins in the first and third motos.
Defending champion Cameron Taylor had a mixed start to his Championship defence. After a surprise fifth placing in the first race, he found his groove and finished third in the second and third motos.
It was a good weekend for Byrners Suzuki rider Adam Monea, who won the Dunlop Holeshot Award in the first two races, collecting himself a cool $200 courtesy of Dunlop for the achievement.
Corey Vanderlei, a Peter Stevens rider from Geelong, pocketed the $100 Dunlop Holeshot Award in the third moto.
Also on Saturday, a day of consistent performances from Troy Seraceno on his Metro Honda saw him take out the Under 19s class just ahead of Troy McNally.
Whilst he didn’t actually record any race victories, Seraceno’s consistency in finishing second, second and fifth across the three races saw him take top spot.
In the Women’s class, Kristy Gillespie continued her dominance with three comfortable race victories, getting her quest for her fifth consecutive Victorian Women’s Motocross Championship off to the best possible start.
In other results on Saturday, Michael Crugnale dominated in the B-Grade Open class claiming all three race victories, whilst in C-Grade Open it was an interstate invader in the form of James Maslin from Wagga Wagga who took top spot.
