Australian Motorcycles Sales Figures – First half of 2013
–  Australian Motorcycle Sales showing clear signs of recovery.  ATV and Scooters, not so much….

–  Points of interest as noted by mcnews.com.au editor, Trevor Hedge
–  Australian motorcycle/ATV sales up 2.4 per cent in the first six months of this year compared to first six months of 2012
–  A total of 53,594 motorcycles and ATV machines sold in the first six months of 2013
–  Honda leads the market by far. 12,243 sales in the first half of 2013 a 3.9 per cent improvement over 2012
–  Yamaha sales up by 3.7 per cent, the tuning fork brand selling 9017 machines
–  Suzuki down 8.68 per cent compared to 2012. Slips to fourth overall
–  Kawasaki third overall and picking up 26 per cent boost thanks to the Ninja 300
–  Kawasaki killing it with the updated Ninja 300, 1898 sales in first six months of 2013
–  Honda CBR500RR on course to challenge Ninja 300 in 2013 sales race. 564 sales in only a matter of weeks on the market…
–  Honda leads the roadbike market overall. But Harley-Davidson second on roadbike sales, and closing the gap…
–  Honda’s CBR500R and CBR1000RR lead sportsbike sales
–  Ducati sells more Panigale than Suzuki sell GSX-R1000, Yamaha YZF-R1 or Kawasaki sell ZX-10R, the latter not even making the top ten
–  Some European brands growing very well, (KTM up 18%), (BMW up 15.6%). Triumph and Ducati only major Euros to go backwards
–  BMW’s entry to the scooter market helped their growth figure markedly as did release of new GS
–  KTM grew 8.8 per cent off road and more than doubled their road bike sales. With 390 Duke coming they will have big final half of 2013
–  Kymco’s stellar rise in the market now in stark retreat, the Korean brand down 37.5 per cent.
–  Hyosung’s meteoric rise a few years ago also now going backwards to the tune of 29.5 per cent
–  Triumph’s Street Triple dominating the nakedbike category but Honda’s new CB500FA already on course to knock it from top spot
–  The off-road market starting to recover, up 10.1 per cent on 2012
–  Yamaha leads the off-road motorcycle market overall by a handy margin over Honda
–  Yamaha’s WR450F leads the Enduro category overall, but European models rank third through ninth on Enduro sales chart
–  Honda’s CRF450R by far the top selling motocross model and Honda up 22.7 per cent off road
–  Venerable KLR650 still selling really well and topping the adventure-touring category
–  DL650 V-Strom sales dropping off despite latest model being, perhaps, the best bang for buck motorcycle ever made
–  Yamaha’s long running XVS650 still leading the otherwise Harley dominated cruiser category
–  Harley-Davidson up 6.9 per cent
–  Victory making some inroads with sales up 26.7 per cent but still only 261 sales compared to Harley’s colossal 3893 sales
–  Honda leading the ATV market. June was a huge month for Big Red, they shifted 1217 ATV units in June alone
–  BRP and CF Moto growing strongly in the ATV sector. ATV market overall shrunk by 4.8 per cent
–  Piaggio bucking the scooter sales downward trend and topping the scooter segment ahead of Honda
–  Scooter sales down 13.2 per cent again after already shrinking markedly over the past couple of years
