Day two of the 2015 Australian Junior Motocross Championships kicked off on Monday with perfect weather conditions and a minor track preparation completed after timed qualifying on day one.

With only the 125cc 13-U15 years and 85cc 9-U12 years classes exceeding 40 riders, and needing their own qualifying races, it was a brief day of racing with only four Moto’s to be run.

Group A of the 125cc class opened the day, with WA’s Regan Duffy capturing the Holeshot and early lead. Riley Dukes sat in second position, until a crash several laps into the Moto caused to him to lose a few positions. This allowed Rhys Budd to takeover the spot, however Mitchell Outram fought his way past while posting the fastest lap of the race.

Dukes recovered the majority of positions he lost, making the pass on Budd in the closing stages of Moto to finish third behind Outram and Duffy.

Group B took to the line moments later, with championship favourites Caleb Grothues and Baily Malkiewicz both looking to be upfront. Liam Walsh took a surprise Holeshot with Callum Norton following in second; it was only a matter of laps before Grothues made his way into the lead – separating him from the field.

Walsh made several mistakes throughout the race, which allowed Norton to secure second position, and Mat Fabry to later move into third in the closing laps. Grothues secured the win, as his bike broke down just metres away past the chequered flag. Norton finished the Moto 16 seconds ahead of Fabry.

Cody Chittick grabbed the Holeshot in the first group of the 85cc class, with Alex Larwood not letting the West Australian out of his sights. Larwood followed Chittick for majority of the Moto, waiting for his opportunity to make the move – which would only be in the final two laps. Once he was in front, Alex gapped second place to finish the Moto 9 seconds ahead of Chittick, while Seth Manuel’s consistency paid off, concluding the race in third.

Jett Lawrence dominated the second group of the 85cc class, leading every lap to cross the chequered flag 26 seconds ahead of second place, Deegan Manicinelli. New South Welshman Blake Hollis rounded out the podium in third.

While there was only four Moto’s to start the day, the remaining classes took part in a 10-minute free practice, as they will all commence racing tomorrow morning.

Regan Duffy – 100cc to 125cc 2-stroke 13-u15 years class heat one winner – “It felt great to get a start like I did – I don’t usually get starts like that. I was so happy to get the race win, I only started riding the 125 a couple of months ago, so I’m pretty pumped. I’m just going to try and stay calm, keep my head, choose good lines and don’t go out of control this week.

Caleb Grothues – 100cc to 125cc 2-stroke 13-u15 years class heat two winner – “I feel really good after this morning, I got a good start and everything just fell into place. It’s really important to get a good gate pick. There’s usually about three or four good gates, so to get the win this morning helps a lot. The track is good and I’m really enjoying it out there. I like it rough and rutty and I love Bunbury. I’ve got a lot of family and friends here supporting me so that gives me a little bit of extra confidence this week that’s for sure.”

Alex Larwood – 85cc 2-stroke/150cc 4-stroke standard wheel 9-u12 years class heat one winner – “I’m so happy to get the win this morning, I just need to get past two more qualifying races and then we’ll go from there. I was hoping to get the win, I didn’t get a good start but I got past the guys and finished the race.  I’ve been trying to get the passes, get the gap and just go. The plan this week is I want to get a top three on both bikes and just go.”
