Another clean sweep sets Reed up for AMA motocross title
Chad Reed secured himself another perfect points haul at Unadilla on the weekend, finishing 1-1 at the ninth round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
The win is his fourth of the season and also his third moto clean sweep. A refreshed Reed has shaken off a slow start and health concerns from the opening rounds to establish himself as the dominant 450 class rider.
A measured approach to both motos saw Reed settle in behind the leaders before attacking and establishing a gap.
He rode smoothly, picking off positions where required while showing superior speed into the straights.
The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider’s textbook performance has seen him increase his advantage to 82 points with three rounds remaining.
“I’ve always struggled here but heading into the round I knew this would be my best opportunity yet to get a good result,” said Reed.
“It all came together on track, I did what I needed to do to win. This win is very much a win for the team and those that have supported me this year.
“You’ve got to be smart about training and your health, just as you are smart about racing on the track. I’ve been around long enough to know motos aren’t won in the first four or five laps and the approach is working for me.
“I’m feeling confident heading into Budd’s Creek, it would be great to keep this momentum going.”
The next round of the championship will be held at Budd’s Creek next weekend, followed by Moto-X 338 in Southwick. A one-week break will allow riders to prepare for the final round of the 2009 championship at Steel City Raceway.
