Blake Bohannon triumphs at 2026 World Junior MX Championships

The World Junior Motocross Championship was run over the weekend in Jinín, Czech Republic, with 260 riders from 38 countries lining up to to compete across the 125, 85 and 65 cc classes to crown the world’s best junior motocross talent.

Earning top honours were Australia’s own Blake Bohannon in the JMX85 class, while Austria’s Ricardo Bauer won the JMX125 gold, and Lucas Bos took out the JMX65 class.

Team France once again took the team victory as FIM Junior World Team champions with a total of seven points, nine clear of Team USA in second with Team Italy in third with 24 points. Australia finished eighth of the 26 scoring nations.

Bohannon untouchable in JMX85

Bohannon became the first Australian FIM Junior Motocross World Champion since Bailey Malkiewicz in 2018, and only the second Aussie to ever claim the top WJMX 85 cc spot.

The 13-year-old from Herons Creek in NSW rode his Yamaha to victory across both 85 cc motos, quickly finding his feet and fighting to a 1.704s victory at the Jinin track over Latvia’s Patrick Cirulis, after a late race overtaking maneuver in the opening bout. Martins Cirulis rounded out the podium making it two Husqvarna mounted Latvians on the podium.

Landon Lee and Harry Dale completed the top five on KTMs for USA and Britain respectively, with Jayce Stocker the next fastest Australian in 16th, Nico Verhoeven finishing 19th for New Zealand, with fellow Kiwi Nixon Coppins 25th.

The second moto saw Bohannon take an even more dominant win, claiming the lead by half distance and never looking back, leading home the USA’s Chase Brennan by 4.329, with Tim Lopes (France), Patriks Cirulis and Harry Dale rounding out the top five.

“I’m just stoked and don’t know what to say. We put in so much work for this race and wanted to do well but can’t really believe I won. I’m pumped! I loved the track here and it’s been such a cool experience. The hills were awesome and my bike was so good. Thanks to my Mum and Dad as they have done so much for me. Thomo for coming over and helping with the bike, GYTR Yamaha Junior Racing for all their support and every from in the team and from MA for getting us here.”

Jayce Stocker had a significantly better ride to finish within the top-10 in eighth, just shy of 34-seconds off the leader. The New Zealand contingent finishing the second moto in 15th through 17th, Coppins leading the trio, followed by Verhoeven and Townley.

The JMX85 saw Bohannon top the tally on 50-points with two fastest laps to his name, Patriks Cirulis second on 40, and Chase Brennan third on 37-points. Lopes, Dale, Lee, M. Cirulis, Kolts, Agullo and Lootus rounding out the top-10, with Jayce Stocking just outside, in 11th on 18-points.

Verhoeven led the Kiwis in 17th on seven points, with Coppins 20th on six, and Townley 21st on four-points.

Bohannon will now head home to compete in the final two rounds of the 2026 MX3 title in AusProMX, as one of the nation’s brightest prospects takes the next step in his burgeoning career.

Lucas Bos tops JMX65 with strong Aussie showing

Bos took the opening JMX65 win by 3.255-seconds from Adan Quesada, with Daniel Corda completing the podium a further second in arrears.

Jax Baker finished fourth, with top Aussie Ryder Madafiglio fifth on his KTM. Fellow Australian Hudson Francis finished in eighth on his Yamaha.

The second bout proved a harder fought affair for the Aussies, with Hudson finishing 10th and Madagilio 16th, with Bos again taking the win by 2.709s from Quesada, with Bas Verspaandonk a distant third.

“I’m not too happy with that last race. There were dudes going everywhere and hard to make passes. Once we spread out a bit, I could get passed them, but it was pretty late in the race. My goal was to get top 10 overall so I’m really happy to finish sixth. I have never done one of these and there were a lot of riders in my class and a heap of fast kids. It’s a long way to come but thanks to my family for making it happen, Yamaha Junior Racing as well as Thomo and Ross.”

Bos took home a perfect 50 points for France ahead of Spain’s Quesada (44), with Jax Baker (USA) and Daniel Corder (Italy) both on 36-points, ahead of fifth placed Milan Rubes (Czech Republic). Hudson Francis’s more consistent results netted him sixth overall on 24-points, while Ryder Madafiglio was 10th overall.

Bauer claims JMX125 gold

Austrian Ricardo Bauer (KTM) was crowned the 2026 125cc WJMX champion, with Frenchman Sleny Goyer (Yamaha) and Swiss rider Emil Ziemer (KTM) taking the silver and bronze.

Australia’s Seth Thomas produced a solid 26-30 scorecard, after a tense Saturday when he was the final rider to qualify for Sunday after finishing fourth in the last chance moto.

He made plenty of passes in the two championship motos, which featured battled-hardened riders from the 2026 EMX125 European series.

New Zealand’s Levi Townley (Yamaha) was a fellow competitor in the class, the former Australian junior motocross champion finishing 16th overall, after a 19-12 result.

Bauer dominated the 125 overall on 50-points, but it was close at the top with four-points bridging second through fourth, consisting of Goyer (38), Ziemer (37), Riba (36) and Craco (36).
