|Is Tommy the next Casey?|
AMA youth rider of the year Tom ‘Tommy Gun’ Edwards could be Australia’s next Casey Stoner. Following a successful junior career in which he won the AMA National Dirt Track title, the 12-year-old is about to embark on a road race career on a YZF-R15.
The young Novocastrian has won multiple Australian and NSW Junior Dirt Track and Long Track Championships.
He placed second in the AMA titles in 2011 and is now the reigning champion. “The way he slides a bike around the dirt track is bound to give him an advantage when it comes to road racing. It happened for Casey, so why not for Tommy?,” says sponsor Graeme Boyd, Yamaha’s Newcastle dealer.
Edwards is poised to enter the MRRDA junior 150cc four-stroke series on a Yamaha YZF-R15. Tom is looking forward to practising on the tar before heading to Phillip Island to race in February on the undercard of the World Superbike round.
Tommy’s goal is to race MotoGP and with a US dirt track title under his belt who would bet against this young Aussie?
Tommy Gun Edwards is supported by Yamaha of Newcastle, Deus ex Machina and parents Paul Edwards (0438 693
525) and Donna Edwards (0402 860 321).
YZF-R15 is the machine of choice for racers wishing to be involved in the MRRDA 150cc four-stroke class.
Plus participating Yamaha dealers are now offering this model with a free YRD carbon/stainless steel sports exhaust pipe until 27 Jan 2014 (right) and free on roads until 20 Dec 2013.
