12 hours of Australian Supercross action to air on free-to-air in 2013

International Entertainment Group (IEG), promoters of the Australian Supercross Championship, are excited to announce that the 2013 series will receive 12 hours of free to air coverage on SPEED WEEK, SBS.

The free-to-air broadcast coverage this year is another step forward for the championship and will to bring mainstream attention to the sport, teams and riders.

SBS reach is vast and wide with over 6 million people tuning in to view programs on a weekly basis.

In addition to the 12 hours of coverage on SPEED WEEK, SBS the Australian Supercross Championship will be aired in New Zealand, United Kingdome, Europoe and Southeast Asia.

IEG Managing director Yarrive Konsky said today’s announcement sees the Australian Supercross Championship confirm the most extensive television broadcast package, for national motorcycle racing in Australia.

“I have been working with Greg Sita from AVE on this for several months and the entire package is amazing for Australian motorcycle racing,” Konsky said.

“Teams, riders and sponsors will be excited to know that the championship will have a new look, and Pro Open and Pro Lite races will be shown in their entirety, in separate 1-hour programs.

“Without television it is hard to sell the sport to out of industry sponsors,” Konsky continued. “It’s all about impressions and ensuring brands reach mainstream audiences. With AVE we have been able to build a package that will have an international reach”.

AVE Managing Director Greg Sita said his company looks forward to working with IEG on the Australian Supercross Championship

“I have always enjoyed motorsport and Supercross is as action packed as it comes,” Sita said.

“We will introduce many new aspects to the broadcast and provide a professional program for everyone to be proud of.”

IEG will ensure that the new broadcast emulates international Supercross coverage.

Yamaha rider Lawson Bopping was thrilled to hear about the new broadcast.

“Last years championship was fantastic, especially as it all came together so late,” Bopping said.

“The series is definitely growing, which is great for everyone, we have six rounds this year and now a free-to-air television package that will broadcast our races in full.

“From a riders perspective the international coverage is also invaluable as it showcases our series and achievements to other promoters and championships across the globe,” Bopping added.

Defending Australian Supercross Champion, Jay Marmont was equally excited by the reach and delivery the new television package will provide the series.

“It is fantastic that people can now watch our races on free to air,” Marmont said. “SPEED WEEK, SBS is renowned for its sports coverage, this is a great media partnership for Supercross.

“I am also excited that our series will now be shown internationally in the United Kingdom, Europe and South East Asia.

“We are just three months out from the start of the Supercross Championship and I am looking forward to defending my title,” Marmont added.

The opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship will be held at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway on September 12-15.
