BMW Sign Allerton and Hepburn Motorsport for ASBK Assault
BMW Australia is excited to announce that Glenn Allerton will be competing on the groundbreaking BMW S 1000 RR for the Hepburn Motorsport Team in 2011.
Allerton, the 2008 Australian Superbike Champion will compete in the ASBK Championship and is hungry to win on the RR, as he finished the 2010 season with a win in Tasmania.
The team had their first taste of the incredibly powerful, HP Power Kit equipped S 1000 RR recently at Phillip Island.
The bike was in road trim complete with headlights but with 196hp at the rear wheel Glenn was clearly impressed. He was overheard in the pits saying to Hepburn Team owner and Pro-Stock racer Wayne Hepburn, “We have to race this bike this year! The electronics make the bike so easy and smooth to handle and the gear shift feels seamless, there has been some serious development with the traction control system, it’s the best I have ever used”.
One week later, the team tested at the BMW World Superbike Team test at Phillip Island. With only 1 day to turn the road bike into a race bike the team were under pressure, but when Glenn set the fastest times (of the local riders) on the first morning they were ecstatic.
Wayne explained, “Today is our first day on the bike, we only fitted the race glass yesterday afternoon. So far we just focused on getting Glenn comfortable on the bike, adjusting the seating position and so on. We couldn’t believe how quick he was straight out of the blocks. With Glenn riding the S 1000 RR we are aiming high for 2011, we will be genuine contenders for race wins and the championship.”
Tony Sesto, BMW Motorrad Manager commented on the signing, “We are very excited to have Glenn and Hepburn Motorsport competing this year on the S 1000 RR. We are confident the RR is the best bike and Glenn is an incredibly talented rider, together we are looking forward to an exciting year of racing.
