Bayliss enlists Kirk McCarthy Memorial Award recipient for Troy Bayliss Classic
With Josh Brookes unable to compete in the Motul Pirelli Troy Bayliss Classic at Taree Motorcycle Club on January 18, Troy Bayliss has enlisted 17-year old West Wyalong teen, Matt Davies to the 36 rider lineup.
Davies, who was awarded the 2013 Kirk McCarthy Memorial Award on the weekend, has been racing since he was six years old.
He raced dirt track until the age of 11, winning nine Australian junior championships and 18 state championships.
Davies went on to compete in the UK and Europe, winning the European Junior Cup in 2011 at the World Superbikes, and in 2013 became the youngest ever full-time World Supersport rider.
Davies is looking forward to lining up against some of the biggest names in Australian motorcycle racing.
“I am very excited to be asked to ride the Troy Bayliss Classic against all the legends,” Davies said.
“It is going to be awesome to be back at my grassroots racing and this event is such a boost for dirt track.”
Event organizer Troy Bayliss said he had been watching Matt’s progress with interest for some time.
“I am excited to be bringing Matt Davies into the Allstars line-up for the Troy Bayliss Classic,” Bayliss said.
“Matt has been in the UK chasing the dream for a while, he surprised me when he won the shootout at the Akubra Classic, and living next door to the West Wyalong Oil Track will provide some stiff competition.
“We are going to need some ammunition against the boys from the USA and I think Matt will definitely surprise a few,” he continued.
The Motul Pirelli Troy Bayliss Classic will be held at Taree Motorcycle Club on Saturday January 18, 2014.
