Following the Rockstar Motocross Nationals mid-year review held on Friday night, riders have come out blazing in the fifth round of the 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals.
Local rider and Privateer Dean Porter (Honda) was flawless on the sandy track, making the most of his home state advantage and showing the eastern Pro Open riders how it’s done, with two convincing wins from two motos.
However it was the young Kawasaki rider, Luke George, who took his second round win in sand in the Pro Lites class with KTM’s Tye Simmonds winning the Under 19’s after dominating both motos.
Undoubtedly one of the toughest tracks in Australia, the Wanneroo circuit certainly shook up the Championship Standings in the Pro Opens class.
Jay Marmont (Yamaha) now leads the Series, ahead of Craig Anderson (Honda), and takes the red plates into the sixth round of the Championship to be held at Murray Bridge, South Australia.
The story of the day though, has to be Porter, who as a Privateer did what most riders dream of, winning both motos in front of a home crowd to take out the round.
Porter took out the first Pro Opens moto in spectacular style, nabbing the holeshot and creating a huge gap between himself and second placed Michael Addison (KTM) with Victorian rider Cheyne Boyd (Yamaha) rounding out the top three.
As a triumphant Porter crossed the line the estimated crowd of 5000 cheered as West Australian riders took the top two places.
With Porter once again storming to hard earned victory in the second Pro Opens Moto, it was a rather bitter sweet day for the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team.
While Marmont put in the ride of his life to make his way from the back of the field in the second moto, and now leads the Championship, his teammate Cheyne Boyd, who had been battling with Porter the entire race and was easily the strongest eastern rider on the sand, ran out of fuel on the very last lap and was unable to finish the moto.
The overall result for the day, however, showed a West Australian dominance of the track, with Porter taking out the round with Addison in second and New South Welshman Marmont in third.
The first Pro Lites moto was led out by Ryan Marmont (KTM) however he was soon overtaken by Ford Dale (Yamaha) and Kade Mosig (Honda) with George back in fifth.
However with both Mosig and Dale coming off their bikes, they left the track open for Series leader George to take the lead and the moto ahead of second paced Adam Monea (Kawasaki) with Todd Waters (KTM) rounding out the top three.
The second moto was a different story for Marmont, who like his brother Jay found form on the loamy track, and pushed ahead, with Kade Mosig hot on his heels.
After a tooth and nail battle it looked as if Mosig was finally going to move in on ‘Doggie’ Marmont however the KTM rider held him off taking the flag less than three seconds ahead of Mosig.
George rounded out the top three in the second moto, earning himself the round win, much to his and his team’s delight.
In the Under 19’s Simmonds had a perfect day at the Wanneroo track with two wins from two motos, putting him in the Championship lead and taking the red plates into the next round.
The sixth round of the 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals will be held at the Murray Bridge Sporting Car and Motorcycle Club on Sunday 8 June. Sign posted from the Monarto exit, South Eastern Freeway, about 45 minutes south east of Adelaide
