KTM Freeride; Try it yourself at Kurri Kurri

KTM’s new 250cc and 350cc Freeride machines have captured the imagination of the off-road motorcycling world, and here’s your chance to find out exactly what the fuss is all about.

KTM Newcastle and Coastal KTM at West Gosford will combine to hold a Freeride Demo Day at Kurri Kurri, in New South Wales’ Hunter Region, on Sunday, April 6

Held on private property, the day will give riders the opportunity to try the KTM Freeride 250 and 350 models on either a Beginner or Advanced loop. And just for a bit of perspective, there will also be some of the current EXC and motocross range for you to ride on the same circuit as required.

A small fee will be payable for participation, but this fee will be refunded upon a bike purchase.

“With KTM’s range expanding to include the new Freeride range,” said Coastal KTM’s Danial Lindsay, “the need to try before you buy is ever increasing, and hopefully this will help our customers with the ever-present ‘what bike should I buy?’ question.

“The Freeride is a bike that is suitable for so many different riders, from pro riders tackling the toughest events like Erzberg and Romaniacs, to experienced trail riders through to beginners. With its low seat height, light weight and manageable power, the Freeride is also a fantastic way to share your riding passion with a partner with little experience, and we welcome and encourage ladies to try the Freerides on the day.”

KTM’s Freeride models are not about maximum peak power, but maximum suitability, flexibility and rideability for the broadest amount of off-road riding enjoyment. It’s a concept so unique it not only created a new market segment, it even attracted Australia’s desert racing King Ben Grabham to shell out his own hard-earned on one as a training playbike.

“After I broke my back I was at one of the KTM Dirt Days and that’s where I first tried one,” said Grabham. “After that I made sure I had one in the shed for a few months during my recovery. Then with the 2014 model they refined the brakes and the final gearing and I went on this trail ride/extreme ride with Adam Riemann and I was hooked. As soon as I got back I rang Jeff Leisk and purchased one of my own.

“Honestly it’s just the fun factor of it – I’ve done trail riding and more extreme riding and it’s registered too, so you can ride straight out of the garage. I chose the 4-stroke because you can roll into the servo, lift up the seat and fill her up. And it’s super quiet; I can start it in the garage and it doesn’t wake the young feller up.

“The reason why I bought though, is it’s just really good for my skills. I don’t have a trials background but you can do trialsey stuff on it, but at the same time you’ve got a seat under you so it’s not too unfamiliar. Honestly, in a lot of the really snotty stuff I’m probably faster on it than I am on EXC because it’s just so nimble and easy to ride. I love it.”
