WA MX Champs crowned The 2013 Smarter Than Smoking WAMX State Championships reached its epic conclusion when round six was hosted in the tough sands of the AJS Club at Wanneroo Park. Throughout this year, Louis Calvin in the Pro Opens has shone whilst the Pro Lites has had Josh Adams leading the standings. Three motos had the championships decided, and, after a week of torrential rain, the motocross gods smiled down as threat of rain subsided and the weather cleared to a chilly but, none the less, outstanding day for racing. The crowd built throughout the day and they were again treated to the very best racing from the states finest riders. — Pro Open/MX1 Championship Louis Calvin is celebrating his 2013 Pro Open/MX1 state championship title after a 1-1-2 result for the day with Kyle Webster second for the round and the season after his round 2-2-1 results. Paul Humberston finished third in the final round with a 4-4-3 race result as Stevie Heilers finished off his season in third for the year after a 5-5-6 race round at AJS. Mitch Taylor, Charlie Creech, Damon Gibbons and Josh Adams all diced for positions in the tough conditions. It was Louis Calvin who was in outstanding form, commenting on his win: “I didn’t get the best of starts today but I managed to get through for the wins except in that last moto when Kyle (Webster) just had it dialled in a big thanks to all my sponsors and the riders for the year and to WAMX for their hard efforts”. — Pro Lites/MX2 Championship In the Pro Lites/MX2 Josh Adams came in as the series leader and took the first moto with Reece Colgan second, Charlie Creech third, Jayden Rykers and Brody Fewster. Robbo Lovett shook the points up with the second moto from Kyle Webster, Brody Fewster, Josh Adams, Reece Colgan and Jayden Rykers. It came down to the final moto and when Webster took over the lead from Adams, it was Rykers who came through in second with Adams third, Robbo Lovett fourth and Reece Colgan fifth for the moto. Josh Adams (1-4-3) had snuck home for the round win and picked up another Pro Lites/MX 2 title by only 10 points over Kyle Webster second for the day and the season. Robbo Lovett settled for third for the round and third overall for the season. “It was a hard slog out there and to take the round win by 2 points over Kyle shows had tough it was”, said Josh Adams, “A big thanks to the Herb Watson Racing team, my family, friends and all the guys for the top competition this season”. — 2 Stroke Cup Championship The PerthMX.com 2 Stroke Cup Championship was won by Louis Calvin (1-1-2) but Calvin was pushed all day by Paul Humberston who finished second (2-2-1) with Brody Fewster (3-3-4) picking up third position in the championship. Wade Shepherd, Anthony Hicks and Daniel Guy were sensational in the top five across the three motos. — Pro/Intermediate Veteran Championship Scott Petricevich sealed the 2013 Pro and Intermediate Veterans Championships from Paul Smithson and Dean Castlehow, whilst the round results had Petricevich on the top step from Paul Smithson second and Trevor Unstead picking up third. — Support Classes Clubman Veterans championship was won by Daryle Mitchall who sealed his victory by the round win ahead of Ben Martin and David Anderson. Second in the championship went to Bernie Swart and Ian Atwell finished third in the series. Luke Few took the top step of the podium in the Intermediate Lites from Oliver James and Carson Bascombe and their round results echoed how they finished in the championship for the year. Adam Smith took the round win in the Clubman Open with Stuart McDonald second for the day and Matt Rowlands third for the day. The results were enough for Matt Rowlands to seal the championship from Scott Hewitt second and Smith third. Kurt Baxter took the round win in the Clubman Lites to take the championship with Keagan Williamson sealing second place by one point for the round and the overall season’s standings whilst third place for the round went to Jack Turner. Jade Williams finished the championship in third position despite not competing at Round 6 at AJS. Izaac Jones continued his dominance in the Intermediate Lites sealing the season’s championship with the round win ahead of Jackson McGrath second for the round with Oliver James on the third step of the podium. Runner up in the championship went to Jacob Smith with Callum Alford third for the series. With the support of major sponsors Smarter Than Smoking and Healthways, plus the wonderful co-operation from the six clubs, WAMX have again excelled with this seasons State Championship titles. The crowning glory will be on October 12th at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle when WAMX’s night of nights, the annual trophy presentations for all the championships classes and support classes. Tickets and information www.wamx.com.au To the riders who participated in the series, no matter when you finished, without you there would be no series, and the calibre of racing and sportsmanship shown this year proves that the future of the sport in Western Australian is in good hands.
