Yamaha take naming rights sponsorship of AFX for 2012
— FX Statement below

Australian Track Road & Track Rider Promotions Company, promoters of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship (AFX-SBK) are very pleased to welcome back Yamaha Motor Australia including their finance arm of Yamaha Motor Finance (YMF) and their insurance company Yamaha Motor Insurance (YMI) as the joint major naming rights sponsors of the six round nationally televised 2012 Australian FX-Superbike Championship Series.

2012 YMF Loan Yamaha Australian Superbike Championship Calendar

Rnd 1 Eastern Creek Raceway …March 16th-18th
Rnd 2 Wakefield Park Raceway …April 20th – 22nd
Rnd 3 Queensland Raceway …July 20th -22nd
Rnd 4 Wakefield Park Raceway …31st August – 2nd September
Rnd 5 Winton Raceway …5th – 7th October
Rnd 6 Eastern Creek Raceway …9th – 11th November

The 2011 YMF Loan Yamaha sponsored Australian FX-Superbike Championship proved to be extremely popular with competitors and teams alike, with increased competitor numbers proving the AFX-SBK Championship Series is heading on the right track. From early feedback from many competitors it would appear that 2012 will see further growth for the series which bodes well for Australian motorcycle road racing at a time when many other segments of motorsport are contracting. 2012 will see no major changes to the popular affordable and level playing field format and rules that the AFX-SBK championship series boasts apart from a much anticipated return to Queensland in late July to expand the Championship series to one more State.

Terry O’Neill the managing director of ARTRP the promoters of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship commented that “It is really excellent news for the sport of road racing to once again have Yamaha back as the major naming rights sponsor of the 2012 Australian FX-Superbike Championship Series.”

O’Neill added, “Apart from being the outright series naming rights sponsor Yamaha’s continued sponsorship of Australian road racing means that AFX-SBK series privateer competitors get the best prizes in the country and their support means all competitors in every class in the AFX-SBK Championship have the opportunity to ‘strut their stuff’ in front of potential sponsors and the Australian public with the sports highest profile and best national free to air and Pay TV coverage.”

YMA Director and General Manager Steven Cotterell added, “Yamaha is pleased to once again support national level road racing in Australia. We believe a healthy road race scene can only benefit motorcycle sales and the televised series is a great platform to expose our inhouse finance and insurance facilities as well as showcase the Yamaha product. “

“Yamaha is offering YZ450F MX bikes as incentives to competing riders because we know that a lot of road racers have dirt bike riding backgrounds and they can be used for training. Plus the winners may wish to compete in the FX Supermoto series down the track,” he continues.

O’Neill added, “2012 is shaping up as a watershed year for the Australian FX-Superbike Championship and we would like to invite all competitors around the country that aren’t already racing with us to come join us and find out for themselves how good and how much fun these FX events are.”
