MAXXIS MA-MT Adventure Tyres
A matching pair of adventure tyres for less than $475 is enough to make any high-mileage rider take notice. The Maxxis MaxxVenture MA-MT has now landed in Australia, pitched as a 50/50 road-and-dirt radial for modern adventure bikes.
The initial Australian range covers one common off-road-oriented adventure fitment: a 90/90-21 front and 150/70R18 rear. At the listed prices, the pair comes to $474.90 before fitting.

Beneath the tread, a spiral steel belt is intended to keep the MA-MT composed at highway speeds and under load. Its hex-cubic block pattern is designed to find bite on loose surfaces, while reinforced bridges across the tread grooves help control block movement and improve stability on sealed roads.
The groove layout is also tasked with evacuating water, an important consideration for a tyre expected to earn its keep on bitumen as well as gravel and dirt.

The MA-MT uses Maxxis’s High Dispersive Full-Silica compound. Maxxis claims its latest formula improves wet grip by 30 per cent and dry grip by 10 per cent over the previous compound. Those remain manufacturer claims for now, as we have yet to sample the MA-MT ourselves.
Both Australian sizes are tubeless radials with an R speed rating, while the MA-MT is also E-marked and carries an M+S designation.
There is no spec sheet that can tell us how the MA-MT will steer, wear or hang on when conditions get ugly, but the proposition is easy to understand: an evenly split adventure tyre and a complete 21/18-inch pairing listed below $475.
