—  Nicholas Waters In Top Ten After Round 1 Asia Dream Cup

Nicholas Waters is inside the top ten after round one of the Asia Dream Cup which was held at the Sepang International Circuit over the weekend.

The young Honda rider represented Australia while tackling a new track and new 250cc race machine for the very first time.

Competing against representatives from all over the Asia Pacific region, including some who competed in 2012, Nicholas said the weekend was a steep learning curve; “I was thrown in the deep end over the weekend but I know it will only get easier from here. I’ve already learned a lot about the motorcycle and how to race it and am looking forward to the next round.”

Race one saw Nicholas start from towards the rear, he managed to push a little towards the front but after ending up stuck in the back pack finished in 15th position. Race two which was tricky for many riders due to bad weather conditions, was more successful for Nicholas, after getting a good start he rode conservatively yet smartly to end his CBR250R in an impressive 6th position.

The Honda rider, who competed on board Honda’s CBR1000RR in the ASBK Prostock 1000 Championship in 2012, said the transition to a CBR250R was challenging; “I know I need to improve my corner speed and tuck myself in as close to the CBR250R as possible, I am going to borrow a CBR250R so I can do some practice at some Australia tracks before the next event” said Nicholas.

Gaining valuable points in the round one event, Nicholas is in 10th place overall. Round two of the Asia Dream Cup will take place on May 17-19, 2013 at the Sentul International Circuit, Indonesia.
