Lawrence brothers in a class of their own at Washougal

Hunter Lawrence extended his lead in the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross 450 Championship after he and younger brother Jett again proved to be in a class of their own at Washougal.

Hunter’s 2-1 results earned the Queenslander his fifth overall victory of the season, while Jett went 1-3 to complete a Honda HRC Progressive one-two overall. The result increased Hunter’s championship lead over Jett to 12 points, 367 to 355, with three rounds remaining.

Jett assumed control of the opening moto after holeshot winner Haiden Deegan lost traction in the following corner. Hunter quickly settled into second and the Australian brothers cleared away from Jorge Prado and the remainder of the field.

Jett maintained the advantage throughout the moto and eventually crossed the line 7.2 seconds ahead of Hunter, with Prado a distant third. It was Jett’s seventh moto victory of the season and another demonstration of the speed he has been gradually rebuilding during the 2026 campaign.

The lap-time sheets illustrated just how far the brothers were operating above the rest of the 450 field. Jett’s 2m14.679s was the fastest lap of the opening moto, while Hunter was next on 2m15.494s. Prado was the quickest of their rivals with a 2m17.137s, leaving him 2.458 seconds slower than Jett and 1.643 seconds adrift of Hunter on a single lap.

The gap was every bit as stark in Moto Two. Jett again topped the timing sheets with a 2m14.576s, narrowly faster than his opening-moto benchmark, while Hunter recorded a 2m15.183s. Deegan was the fastest rider outside the Honda camp with a 2m17.120s — 2.544 seconds slower than Jett and 1.937 seconds behind Hunter.

Those are enormous margins at this level of competition. Even the slower of the two Lawrence brothers was more than 1.6 seconds faster than every other rider in both motos, while Jett held an advantage of more than 2.4 seconds over the best non-Lawrence lap each time. Their ability to produce that speed while racing one another at the front made the gulf look even more ominous for their rivals.

Moto Two was considerably less straightforward. Jett took the holeshot, but Hunter moved through to the lead on the opening lap. Jett then ran off the circuit after losing balance over a jump and accelerated along the side of the track before rejoining ahead of Deegan.

Jett regrouped and erased Hunter’s advantage before passing his older brother for the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. However, he subsequently lost traction on the face of a jump and went down, handing the lead back to Hunter.

Jett remounted ahead of Deegan and launched another charge, closing to within 1.4 seconds of Hunter by the chequered flag. Race officials later penalised Jett one position for accelerating while off the circuit, dropping him from second to third in the official Moto Two results. Hunter’s 2-1 score still secured the overall, with Jett’s 1-3 enough for second ahead of Deegan’s 4-2.

The weekend also highlighted the unusually open working relationship between the championship-leading brothers. Hunter and Jett sampled each other’s suspension settings during Friday’s press activities, allowing Honda to compare two different development directions without the usual secrecy that might surround title rivals.

“This weekend was actually sick compared to how Washougal has been every other year for me,” Hunter said. “That was the talk of the week, right? How this isn’t our best track? So it was unreal to go 2-1. The bike’s in a good spot, and we made one change between the first and second moto that really helped me out.

“We tested a few things this week, and we knew we could lean into a stiffer bike that doesn’t normally work on East Coast tracks, and it paid off today.

“I think riding each other’s bikes with Jett is a benefit to both of us and the team. He had a different setup yesterday from what I did, and that’s our theory — let’s put it to the test and see which one we like better. There are no secrets, and it’s a level playing field.

“I’m happy to get the win, but it’s such a tough championship, going up against the best guy in the sport. I’m already thinking about what I want to work on and where I can be better in the weeks to come.”

Jett was encouraged by the speed and handling of his CRF450RWE, but acknowledged that his desire to regain championship points had contributed to mistakes.

“I feel like I found a good setting; this is the best my bike has handled in the past year, so I was super happy,” Jett said. “I think riding each other’s bikes with Hunter on press day is a benefit to both of us and the team, because we’re able to see what works better and figure out what we like.

“In the second moto, I just kept pushing. I felt good, and I was hoping maybe I could catch him off guard, but obviously he had a little bit of an idea where I was at. “I’d rather be right there in case something happens than be back, so I tried and just fell a little short. It is what it is, and we’ll take it.

“I do really want it badly. I want to win — that’s what I like doing and that’s why I like racing. I think sometimes that can hurt me a little bit, because I want to make those points up, but it’s just things I have to get better at.

“The word of the year has been ‘getting closer’, so we’re getting closer to feeling like myself. Hopefully, bit by bit, I can get back to where I was.”

AMA Pro Motocross now pauses for its final two-week break before resuming at Unadilla. Hunter will arrive in New York with the red plate and a 12-point advantage, but Washougal’s lap times suggest the championship fight remains very much an exclusive Lawrence family affair.

Kyron Bacon impresses in France

Kyron Bacon strengthened his hold on fifth place in the 2026 Enduro2 World Championship with another impressive weekend at the penultimate round of the EnduroGP World Championship in Saint-Agrève, France.

The Tasmanian continued his consistent run of form by finishing sixth in class on Saturday before improving to fifth on Sunday as the special tests became increasingly rutted and technical. It follows a season that has seen the MGR Racing Team rider steadily close on the category’s front-runners, highlighted by a breakthrough fourth-place finish in Spain and another fourth in Portugal, before backing that up with consecutive top-five results in France.

Bacon said he was pleased with the progress made across the weekend.

“It was a positive weekend for me. I felt comfortable on the special tests and managed to put together some competitive times. Now it’s time to keep working hard and focus on the final Grand Prix of the season.”

With one round remaining, Bacon sits fifth in the Enduro2 standings and will look to finish the season on a high when the championship concludes at Rhayader, Wales, on August 7-9.

Wildfire threat forces Baja España-Aragón postponement

The 2026 Baja España-Aragón was postponed due to the extreme wildfire risk across the Spanish region.

The rally had been scheduled to run from July 24–26, but the Government of Aragon elected to postpone the event following advice from emergency services, forestry authorities and other regional stakeholders.

Forecasts had indicated red-alert conditions across the province of Teruel and the wider Aragon region, with exceptionally high temperatures, strong winds, low humidity and prolonged dry conditions combining to create an extreme risk of forest fires.

Authorities determined that proceeding with an event attracting large numbers of competitors, officials, spectators and support vehicles would have placed unnecessary pressure on emergency and firefighting resources already stretched by wildfires across the region.

The Government of Aragon and organiser Esedos Events & Productions were working to identify an alternative date later in 2026, with further details to be announced once confirmed.

The new Stark VARG MX Factory Edition and VARG EX Factory Edition will arrive with complete KYB Factory A-Kit suspension packages, extensive titanium hardware, Dynamic Traction Control and a selection of race-focused chassis upgrades, with Australian pricing listed at $23,990 for the motocross model and $25,990 for the road-homologated enduro version.

Production will be restricted to a single global run of 500 motorcycles, comprising 200 VARG MX Factory Editions and 300 VARG EX Factory Editions.

NSW Classic and Post Classic Dirt Track Championships this weekend!

It is that time of year when old dirt track racers dust off an assortment of classic machinery for the annual Classic Dirt Track meeting, staged by the City of Penrith Motorcycle Club at Nepean Raceway this weekend, August 1-2.

The New South Wales Classic and Post Classic Dirt Track Championships will be decided across a broad range of categories, while classes attracting smaller entry lists will still appear as support events over the two-day program.

There will also be a sprinkling of younger competitors racing motorcycles considerably older than themselves, while several riders have entered multiple machines. That should keep them busy throughout the weekend and may test the fitness of a few members of the older brigade.

The meeting is traditionally marked by plenty of camaraderie in the pits, although the friendly atmosphere is temporarily set aside once the starting gate drops. They might not be racing for sheep stations, but there will still be no shortage of race faces.

Track action begins at 10 am on both days. Saturday will feature practice and three rounds for several support classes before proceedings conclude with a double-feature program comprising two 25-lap races. One will cater for Period 20 and Post Classic machinery, with the other reserved for Classic machines.

Sunday’s 50-event program will include 10 championship classes and two support categories. One of the traditional highlights is the Super Senior class for riders aged over 70, which has attracted a field of six. Most of those riders will also contest other classes during the weekend.

Many competitors regard the Nepean meeting as an annual must-do, with riders travelling considerable distances to take part. The host club has supplied the largest contingent, although entrants representing Queensland’s Whitsunday Club and Adelaide’s Mud’n’Tars Motorcycle Club will make the longest journeys.

The meeting will also mark the end of an era for sidecar competitors Donna Probin and passenger David Martin, who are set to farewell racing after one final appearance together aboard their dirt track outfit.

Jonny Walker set for EnduroGP of Wales wildcard

Jonny Walker will make a wildcard appearance at the final round of the 2026 FIM EnduroGP World Championship, joining Triumph Factory Racing for the GP of Wales at Rhayader from August 7-9.

Walker will contest the Enduro2 category aboard the Triumph TF 450-E, marking the first EnduroGP appearance for a factory-backed version of Triumph’s 450 cc enduro machine.

The British rider returns to traditional timecard enduro competition after a strong FIM SuperEnduro campaign and his appearance at this week’s Red Bull Romaniacs aboard the larger Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Walker has also been contesting sprint enduro events in Wales as preparation for the one-off outing.

“I’m really excited to race the EnduroGP of Wales. It’s been a long time since I last competed in a timecard enduro, but it’s a style of racing I’ve always enjoyed and I’ve got some good memories from racing the British and European Championships earlier in my career. It’ll be great to ride the TF 450-E and join the EnduroGP team for the weekend, especially with how well they’ve been doing this season. Racing at home is always special, and getting the chance to line up at the team’s home GP in Wales makes it even better. I’m looking forward to the Super Test too, as it should suit my riding style, so hopefully I can put in a strong performance on Friday evening and carry that through the rest of the weekend.”

Walker previously raced extensively in British and European enduro competition and represented Great Britain as part of its Junior Trophy Team at the 2011 International Six Days Enduro. His indoor racing experience should make him particularly competitive during the Friday evening Super Test before the championship concludes with two full days of racing through the Welsh hills.

Triumph trio set for Red Bull Romaniacs

Triumph will return to Red Bull Romaniacs with a formidable three-rider line-up comprising Jonny Walker, Sam Sunderland and Ivan Cervantes, all aboard near-standard Tiger 900 Rally Pro machinery.

The 23rd edition of the notoriously demanding hard enduro will run from July 28 to August 1, beginning with the traditional Sibiu city Prologue before four days of competition through the Carpathian Mountains.

Walker will again contest the premier Adventure Ultimate category after finishing runner-up on his Tiger 900 Rally Pro in 2025. Despite an early setback, the British hard enduro specialist won three consecutive off-road stages and narrowly missed the overall victory.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Romaniacs on the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. I had a lot of fun racing the adventure bike there last year and we came incredibly close to taking the win, so the goal is definitely to challenge for the top step again. I haven’t ridden the bike since last year’s event, so we’ll arrive, make the most of our setup, and get straight into racing, but I do have complete confidence in both the bike and the team. It’s a race I know well and really enjoy, with a tough Prologue and four demanding off-road days, and I can’t wait to get back into the mountains.”

Two-time Dakar winner Sunderland will step up to the more demanding Adventure Core class after dominating Adventure Lite on his Romaniacs debut last year, winning the Prologue and every off-road stage to claim the category by more than four hours.

“I’m really excited to be heading back to Red Bull Romaniacs with Triumph. Last year’s event was a great experience and I was genuinely impressed by what the near-standard Tiger 900 Rally Pro could do in such demanding terrain. Stepping up into the Adventure Core class adds another level of difficulty, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve against even stronger competition.”

Sunderland will be joined in Adventure Core by five-time Enduro World Champion Cervantes, who returns to Romaniacs for the first time in more than a decade. The Spaniard has already achieved considerable success aboard the Tiger 900 Rally Pro, including victories at the 1000 Dunas, Baja Aragón and Bassella Race.

Triumph says the three Tiger 900 Rally Pros will retain their standard engines and most production equipment, with adjusted stock suspension and only a small selection of upgraded components fitted for the five-day event.

Febvre moved to Ducati for 2027

Romain Febvre will end his long association with Kawasaki at the end of the season before joining the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team on a two-year agreement, kicking off in 2027.

“Next year I will open another chapter of my career. I will enter another challenge, and that’s what I need at my age to perform. But the season is not finished, and until the last race I will, of course, give my best.”

Christchurch confirmed as WSX final

The FIM World Supercross Championship has announced Christchurch, New Zealand, as the final destination on its 2026 season calendar, with the championship finale set to take place on December 5 at the newly developed One New Zealand Stadium.

The event will mark World Supercross’ first-ever visit to New Zealand, bringing some of the world’s best supercross riders to Christchurch as championship titles are decided under the lights.

Located in the heart of Christchurch, One NZ Stadium is set to become one of the country’s leading sport and entertainment venues. Its world-class facilities and city-centre location will provide a spectacular setting for World Supercross, delivering an immersive fan experience as the championship brings its global season to a close.

Bou untouchable Day One

The Anglesey headland sections proved to be extremely technical at the TrialGP of Great Britain, with almost too much traction in some places on the sharp coastline rocks, contrasted by virtually none to be found in others as the day progressed.

Bou proved master of finding grip however, toping Friday’s Super Test to determine starting positions before tightening his grip on the title with a pair of commanding performances, adding to his tally of 13 wins this season.

Jaime Busto pushed him hardest in both races, the 29-year-old kept the pressure on in race one all the way to section eight. With the leading pair locked together on six, both needing a single dab on section two before the entire field took a maximum at section four.

Bou then moved into a clear lead, attracting no points to Busto’s two, and despite further failures on nine and ten – ended the race with an 11-mark winning margin.

Roared on by the passionate crowd, Britain’s Harry Hemingway – in his debut season in the premier class – put in an inspired performance to post a career-best third in the opening race after losing a tie-break with Busto. There was then a four-mark gap to Spain’s Gabriel Marcelli who fought through the pain of a fractured finger to take fourth on a tie-break from Italian veteran Matteo Grattarola with home hero Jack Peace completing the top six.

Getting race two under way with victory in Super Pole, Bou seized an immediate lead with a clean run in the Final’s opening section before moving clear with a dab in the following hazard, where Busto was the only other rider to escape without a maximum.

Despite a tight schedule that saw the whole field incur time penalties, Bou kept his cool and did not pick up a single five as he maintained control into the Super Final stage and ran out winner on twelve marks lost, half the total collected by Busto who took second on a tie-break.

Back in seventh in the opening race, Spain’s Miquel Gelabert – riding the sole electric machine in the class – improved to fourth on a total of 21, two ahead of Peace, with Marcelli clearly in pain as he slipped to sixth on 35, three ahead of a disappointed Hemingway.

Since the start of the season Abellan and Rabino have gone head-to-head at the front of the TrialGP Women class and it was the turn of the 20-year-old Italian to claim a double win from the reigning champion.

Day Two

A brighter morning greeted competitors on day two at the Trac Mon Circuit Anglesey, the course bookended by man-made hazards comprising huge piles of smooth boulders, the majority of sections on jagged, grippy shoreline rocks that looked forbidding, but were taken in their stride by Bou who looked entirely at home as he repeated his Saturday form to take the double win.

The first serious test came at section four that stopped the full TrialGP field in yesterday’s opening race and not a lot had changed this time around, except Matteo Grattarola bent the laws of physics to escape with an incredible single mark, but by this point he had already taken five on section two so rather than hand him the lead, his heroics only brought him back into contention.

From here Bou stayed feet-up until section ten where he needed a two that put him within striking distance of team-mate Marcelli, and not even a maximum on the final section could prevent the 39-year-old from taking victory on thirteen.

Having struggled on day one with a fractured finger, Marcelli claimed a brave second on fifteen, four clear of Busto with Grattarola a further five off the pace, as Hemingway slotted into fifth on thirty after winning a tie-break with Gelabert and Peace.

After topping Super Pole to decide the starting order for the Final, Bou locked horns with Busto and Marcelli as the Spanish trio distanced themselves from the chasing pack and it was Busto who seized the advantage with a one on section four that once again took maximums from the rest of the field.

Tied on five with Busto heading into the Super Final stage, with Marcelli on seven, Bou added just one more mark to his score on section twelve to win by two marks from Busto, with Marcelli third on ten before an eleven-mark gap to Hemingway in fourth.

Fresh from her dynamite double win on day one, Rabino started the second day in a determined mood, and on a day when scores were low, her opening race total of two put her four clear of Abellan.

Irrespective of class, a faultless performance at this level is a very rare occurrence and Rabino capped off her fantastic weekend in Wales by staying clean throughout the second race to take the title fight to Abellan whose score of seven gave her second on a tie-break with the on-form Bacchetta.

Jed Beaton seals MX1 title as Tanti takes Conondale honours

The 2026 Penrite ProMX Championship returned to Green Park for the first time since 2018, with Conondale delivering a fitting coronation for Jed Beaton and major developments across all four championship classes.

Beaton entered the penultimate round holding a commanding 64-point MX1 advantage after winning 11 of the opening 12 motos. The Monster Energy CDR Yamaha rider did not need to reproduce the domination seen at Traralgon; he simply needed two controlled finishes to complete a title campaign that had been a decade in the making.

Third place in both motos was more than enough. Beaton left Conondale 61 points clear of Aaron Tanti and Kyle Webster, securing his first Australian MX1 crown and adding it to the MX2 championship he won in 2016.

Tanti claimed the round victory with a pair of second-place finishes, while Nathan Crawford and Webster shared the moto wins. The result also left Tanti and Webster tied for second in the championship ahead of the season-ending two-day round at Queensland Moto Park.

Alex Larwood increased his MX2 lead after Kayd Kingsford was caught in an opening-lap incident in Moto Two, Seth Morrow completed a second successive MX3 clean sweep, and Lachlan Turner retained her perfect MXW record after recovering from a fall to win the final women’s moto.

The beautiful backdrop of the Green Park circuit, large crowd and generally fine conditions provided a welcome contrast to the cold, wind and rain experienced at Traralgon two weeks earlier.

MX1 Championship Standings

Aussie MX finale this weekend at QMP

The 2026 Penrite ProMX Championship reaches its conclusion at Queensland Moto Park this weekend, with the national motocross paddock backing up from Conondale for its second Queensland event in just six days.

Round Eight will be staged across Saturday and Sunday, August 1–2, on the 1.75-kilometre Queensland Moto Park circuit at Coulson, near Boonah.

Practice, qualifying and racing will be spread across the two-day program, with Kawasaki MX1, Pirelli MX2, Maxxis MX3 and EziLift MXW joined by the MXV and MX65 Futures categories.

Jed Beaton has already secured the premier-class crown, but the championships remain alive in MX2, MX3 and MXW, while the contest for second in MX1 could hardly be any closer.

Queensland Moto Park will host the ProMX decider for a third consecutive season, with its broad, hard-packed layout providing a markedly different challenge from the more natural-terrain Green Park circuit encountered at Conondale.

Kawasaki MX1

The pressure may be off Jed Beaton, but there is still plenty to play for in MX1.

The Monster Energy CDR Yamaha rider now heads to QMP with an unbeatable 61-point lead and the opportunity to finish his title-winning campaign without having to worry about championship calculations. That could make Beaton even more dangerous. At Conondale he understandably rode with the bigger picture in mind, but at QMP he will be free to chase moto wins and underline just how dominant his 2026 campaign has been.

Behind him, Aaron Tanti and outgoing champion Kyle Webster are tied on 274 points in the battle for championship runner-up.

Tanti arrives with momentum after recording 2-2 finishes to win the Conondale round, while Webster produced an excellent late charge to steal the second moto from Tanti by just 0.862 seconds.

Nathan Crawford won the opening Conondale moto, his first MX1 victory since joining Honda Racing Australia, and backed that up with fourth in Moto Two. Crawford sits fourth in the championship on 232 points and retains a remote mathematical chance of taking second, although that would require an exceptional weekend and major trouble for both Tanti and Webster.

The fight for the QMP round victory appears considerably more open than the championship standings might suggest.

Crawford and Webster shared the Conondale moto wins, Tanti set the fastest lap in both races, and Beaton remained close enough to the leaders while riding conservatively. The leading four were separated by only 6.698 seconds at the end of Moto Two.

Todd Waters holds fifth in the championship on 199 points, ahead of Rhys Budd, Luke Zielinski, Levi Rogers and Zachary Watson.

Pirelli MX2

The headline championship battle at QMP will be the intra-team contest between Honda Racing Australia riders Alex Larwood and Kayd Kingsford.

Larwood leads the championship by 26 points, 306 to 280, after claiming his tenth moto victory of the season at Conondale.

Kingsford won the opening moto at Green Park and produced a 2m07.710s fastest lap, the quickest race lap recorded across either MX1 or MX2 during the meeting.

His championship challenge was then dealt a major blow when he was caught in the opening-lap congestion in Moto Two. Kingsford recovered to ninth, but Larwood took full advantage by working his way to the front and securing the victory.

Larwood’s 2-1 results extended his advantage from 16 to 26 points, leaving Kingsford requiring something close to a perfect QMP weekend.

The equation is straightforward. There are 50 points available, and Larwood needs to collect 25 of them to put the championship beyond Kingsford, even if his team-mate wins both motos.

Kingsford nevertheless has proven QMP form. He won the MX3 round at the venue in 2025 before stepping into MX2 this season, while last year’s MX2 winner Noah Ferguson will also be looking to rediscover the speed that has already taken him to two moto victories in 2026.

The title fight is not the only deadlock in MX2. KTM Racing Australia riders Byron Dennis and Dylan Walsh are tied for third in the championship on 249 points.

Walsh arrives in particularly strong form after finishing 3-2 for second overall at Conondale and pushing Larwood to within 3.770 seconds in the final moto.

Dennis was fourth and sixth at Conondale, while Ryder Kingsford, Ferguson and Reid Taylor have all demonstrated enough speed to disrupt the leading championship contenders.

Maxxis MX3

Hayden Draper holds the strongest position in MX3, but the development-class championship remains mathematically open between four riders.

Draper leads Heath Fisher by 20 points, 270 to 250, with Riley Burgess on 231 and the rapidly advancing Seth Morrow on 223.

The New Zealander was clearly unwell at Conondale but limited the damage with sixth and third-place finishes. Despite being below his best, Draper surrendered only two points from his championship lead to Fisher.

Draper’s consistency has been his greatest strength throughout a season in which MX3 has produced numerous race winners and frequent changes at the front.

The rider carrying the most momentum into QMP, however, is Morrow.

After sweeping both motos at Traralgon, Morrow repeated the performance at Conondale to make it four consecutive victories. He won the Green Park motos by 14.362 and 9.970 seconds, with fastest laps approximately two seconds quicker than his nearest rivals.

Morrow remains 47 points behind Draper, meaning his title chances are remote, but his recent speed makes him a major factor in how the championship will be decided.

Fisher is the most immediate threat to Draper and must outscore the leader by at least 21 points across the two races to take the title outright.

Burgess also remains in contention, although he must overcome a 39-point deficit, while Jackson Fuller is fifth on 216 points and can no longer reach Draper’s current total.

EziLift MXW

American Lachlan Turner enters the final MXW round with a perfect record and a 34-point championship advantage.

Turner has collected the maximum 150 points from the six motos contested so far, establishing herself as the clear benchmark during her Australian campaign with the Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha team.

Her performance at Conondale demonstrated more than outright speed.

After comfortably winning the opening moto, Turner fell during Moto Two and dropped to fifth. She regrouped, worked her way back through the field and passed four-time defending champion Charli Cannon with three laps remaining to preserve her unbeaten record.

Turner leads Taylah McCutcheon by 34 points, with Cannon a further six points behind in third.

Only 17 points across the two QMP motos will guarantee Turner the championship, regardless of what McCutcheon achieves.

McCutcheon has been a consistent presence near the front throughout the season, while Cannon continues to compete despite the fractured shoulder blade she suffered at Traralgon. The Honda rider finished second in both Conondale motos and remains capable of challenging Turner for race victories, even if a fifth consecutive championship now appears unlikely.

Final-round pressure

Queensland Moto Park has produced dramatic championship finales in each of the past two seasons and arrives at the end of a particularly demanding run for the 2026 paddock.

The riders have only six days to recover, prepare their motorcycles and adapt from Conondale’s flowing natural terrain to QMP’s faster, harder-packed layout.

Last year’s QMP winners were Wilson Todd in MX1, Noah Ferguson in MX2, Kayd Kingsford in MX3 and Charli Cannon in MXW. Three of those riders will return this weekend, although Kingsford is now fighting for the MX2 championship.

Beaton’s MX1 crown may already be secure, but the remaining title equations, several battles for championship podium positions and an increasingly competitive group of late-season moto winners should ensure there is little sense of an exhibition round.

For Larwood, Draper and Turner, QMP represents the final step towards championships they have led for much of the season.

For Kingsford, Fisher, McCutcheon and the remaining challengers, it is the final opportunity to turn an entire season on its head.

Herlings seizes MXGP lead with perfect Loket sweep | Czech GP Results

Jeffrey Herlings has turned the 2026 MXGP World Championship on its head after completing a perfect weekend at Loket, sweeping Saturday’s Qualifying Race and both Sunday motos to leave the Czech Republic with the red plate and a 49-point championship lead.

The Honda HRC PETRONAS rider had arrived at Loket 11 points behind Lucas Coenen after taking both moto wins at Foxhills one week earlier. Coenen, however, was still carrying the effects of his heavy British Grand Prix crash and could not complete Saturday’s Qualifying Race before withdrawing from Sunday’s programme.

Only two rounds ago, Coenen had held a 68-point advantage over Herlings. The Dutchman now leads by 49, representing an extraordinary 117-point swing across Foxhills and Loket.

Herlings was not simply the beneficiary of his rival’s misfortune. He was the fastest rider throughout the Czech weekend, topping both practice sessions before controlling the Qualifying Race and winning Sunday’s motos by 18.310 and 10.910 seconds respectively. His maximum 60-point haul extended his run to five consecutive race victories and delivered a second successive perfect Sunday.

Tom Vialle completed an outstanding weekend for Honda by going 3-2 for second overall, earning his first podium at Loket. Romain Febvre recovered from a first-turn incident in Race Two to finish 2-5 and secure his fourth consecutive Grand Prix podium, while Rubén Fernández placed fourth overall to move into fifth in the championship.

The MX2 contest produced a more varied pair of races, but the final outcome continued Guillem Farres’ remarkable mid-season run. The Triumph rider went 1-2 to secure his fourth consecutive Grand Prix victory and extend his championship advantage over Sacha Coenen to 33 points.

Camden McLellan joined his Triumph team-mate on the overall podium in second, while Karlis Reisulis secured the first MX2 podium of his career. Liam Everts rebounded from a first-turn crash in Race One to dominate the second moto and claim his first race victory of the season.

Loket also hosted the deciding rounds of the EMX85, EMX65 and EMX2T European Championships. Patriks Cirulis emerged from an extraordinary four-way points tie to secure the EMX85 crown, Jack Waters became the first British winner of the EMX65 title, and home favourite Vaclav Kovar completed a perfect weekend in EMX2T.

The warm, dry conditions left the historic Loket circuit hard, polished and increasingly slippery. Its steep climbs, abrupt descents and narrow racing lines rewarded precise riding and strong starts, while mistakes on the blue-groove surface were punished heavily.

Hunter Lawrence wins Washougal as Cole Davies sweeps 250s

The 45th running of the Washougal National delivered another consequential afternoon in both 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship battles as the series made its final visit to the West Coast before the late-summer break.

The tree-lined Washington circuit is one of the most picturesque venues on the calendar, but its deceptively hard and slick surface, high speeds and constantly changing light make it considerably more treacherous than the dark soil might suggest.

One week after Jett Lawrence appeared to have the measure of his brother in the second moto at Spring Creek before a costly mistake, Washougal produced an eerily similar sequence.

Jett won the opening moto and again passed Hunter during Moto Two, only to lose the front and hand the advantage back. He then charged onto Hunter’s rear wheel before a post-race penalty relegated him behind Haiden Deegan.

Hunter’s 2-1 scorecard secured his fifth overall victory of the season and his second in succession, extending his championship advantage over Jett from ten to 12 points.

Deegan took another significant step in his rookie 450 campaign. The Yamaha rider topped qualifying for the first time, recovered from an opening-corner fall in Moto One and completed a second consecutive podium weekend with 4-2 finishes.

The 250 contest produced an emphatic response from Cole Davies following his disastrous Spring Creek round. The young New Zealander led 31 of the 32 laps across the two motos to record a dominant 1-1 scorecard and slash Levi Kitchen’s championship lead from 25 points to seven.

Kitchen endured a first-turn pile-up and another difficult start in front of his home crowd, but two determined sixth-place finishes ensured the Kawasaki rider retained the red plate heading into the final three rounds.
