British SuperBike Championship - Round 1 - Preview

The long awaited 2001 British Superbike Championship kicks off in earnest at Donington Park, Leicestershire this weekend where Monstermob Ducati team rider Steve Hislop will be going for glory aboard his championship winning Ducati 996 in both of Sunday's races.

Fresh from successful pre-season testing both in the UK and Spain, 37 year old 'Hizzy' will be looking towards landing his third British title having sat out the latter part of last year due to injury.

"The waiting is just about over and it's going to be very interesting this weekend. All the riders are stronger than ever but despite what people think about Reynolds and Haydon being the favourites, I plan on mixing it up with them. We're a little short on track time but we have made very good progress on the development side over these past couple of weeks and I'm hopeful we can score a couple of rostrum placings if not a race win" said Hislop from his Isle of Man home.

Chris Vermeulen is using the British SuperSport race for some practice to aid his World SuperSport efforts.
