The Ducatis stormed off the line as the lights went out for race two with Laconi shooting straight to the front, but then the Frenchman started to drift back a little almost immediately with some sort of problem.  No such problems for Noriyuki Haga though as he started to pull away from James Toseland, Leon Haslam, Garry McCoy and Steve Martin.

The track was quite dry for this second race so this time there was no early pussy footing around, this time they were straight in to it and taking no prisoners.  Corser and Vermeulen were running 11th and 12th at this early stage of the race, Nowland 16th.

Steve Martin slipped under Garry McCoy for third on lap four and set about chasing down Leon Haslam.  Meanwhile Noriyuki Haga was pulling away out in front while James Toseland gave chase.

Garry McCoy was back to his slideways best, perhaps due to choosing a tyre that was a little too soft, he started to lose ground on Martin before Frankie Chili then relegated him to sixth place.  Chris Vermeulen had made some good forward progress and by one-third race distance had worked his way up to seventh position.

Haga continued to rule the roost out in front with some aggressive riding while Toseland struggled to eat in to the gap.  Leon Haslam was still holding down third place while Steve Martin tried hard to reel him in.

Vermeulen got the better of McCoy on lap ten and immediately started to pull away from the ex GP rider.

As they reached half race distance Haga had a 3.4 second advantage over Toseland, who in turn had 6 seconds on Haslam.  There was only just under a second from Haslam back to Martin though.  However the Australian had that down to nothing a lap later and was looking for a way past.  But the young Brit stuck to his guns and didn't make things easy for Martin.  This allowed Frankie Chili to close the gap and the battle for third place became a 3-way fight with seven laps to run.

Haslam then made a big mistake, going in way too deep in an effort to match Martin's entry speed to a tight left hander, he paid the price by running off the circuit and dropping back to tenth place.

Out in front it was still Haga maintaining his healthy 4 second gap over Toseland.  Steve Martin was a further 6 seconds behind in third trying to fend off a charging Frankie Chili with only four laps to run.

Haga was coming up to lap Praia when he nearly lost the rear end, he only just managed to save it, the mistake allowed Toseland to close a little but not close enough.

Haga took the win, Toseland came home a couple of seconds behind while Steve Martin just managed to hold off Frankie Chili to score a podium finish.
